I want to make a rolled edge bifold wallet what leather
chrisash replied to chrisash's topic in How Do I Do That?
Thanks all some great suggestions, I have made a few in Chrome but feel they are missing something even with painted edges and one in a nice bit of veg about 1,2mm which came out nice until i went to use it and found it was designed for US Notes and the English notes stuck out the top of the wallet (lesson learnt, must pay attention to details) I think Matt's suggestion for goat seems a great idea and looks available in the UK Never skived for a job hence the need to try on something and a wallet seems a good starting place and i need a new wallet (see above) Had not heard of Le Prevo, looks a good source and may well have what i want, some great prices, think i will go with the goat and dye it myself -

Hi Koeric Thanks just feel i want to push myself and do some rolled edges and a wallet seems a good start and feel they look more professional, first thought is about 1mm veg tan and also seen some 1mm coloured bridal but cannot get that is a small enough quantity. Just wondered what others used -

Silly question but looking to progress to a rolled edge wallet and know i can use any leather, but what type of veg tan would you suggest and what thickness. Just want a nice finish but not for much money (pointless to buy a shoulder for maybe 2 sq Ft requirement) I did ask a guy who advertises on ETSY and had a video and templates for sale, Just asked what leather and thickness he suggest's before i brought the design, his answer "buy the design and its all in there" did not think it was going to be a trade secret, so not looking to buy his PDF and video now, hence the question to hopefully more helpful people -
Hi matt Just looking at the cheap options but used to run a e-commerce site until a year ago and most had a 32 kilo limit under health and safety for one man operations. unfortunately this is a nice to have option but not willing to pay much to get it transported, actually the seller weighed it at 27 kilo so that's not the problem now but he is never in one place any day so couriers normally just pick up whilst doing their rounds and a timed pickup's out of the question due to price

In the good old days I used to be a reasonable shot with a Lee Enfield no4 with 10 rounds and one up the spout as time went by they got rid of the and got newer weapons all with bigger mags and semi auto or auto even the good old Bren gun was replaced with the GPMG lots more ammo but designed to be less accurate and have a bigger field of fire So my question is did the older guns have a better kill rate than the newer ones, seems every one wanted close range shooting rather than extended range Myself I would prefer a few good shots rather than blanket fire

There are plenty of very low cost Pricking and diamond point chisels available on ETSY that will do a reasonable job for a few dollars, a set of 3.38 mm would seem a nice starter in 2, 6, and a larger size 10. you can take a file and work the sides smoother between the blades so less friction as tha'ts the area most of the cheaper versions have manufacturing uneven area's Many tools at the cheap end are actually quite well made and usable by hobby folk whilst the professionals obviously get more out of tools they use every day so worth paying for the better ones, mind price does not always mean a increase in quality, C.S.Osbourne seem to have the balance right on cost V Performance

Unfortunately they are all well seized up and person selling cannot remove them, but still a big problem with the weight over the limit and if two packets just costs nearly double due to each piece's weight

Wiz you are a most useful member of this forum, a answer in about 2 min at this time of night Unfortunately most of our couriers only carry up the 32 kilo under health and safety so looks like a no go and about a three hour drive each way its up for sale at £30 about $24 of your money

Rustic Why are you so offensive to others, good manners should be part of your life, you are obviously missing them with your rants that have nothing to do with Leather so should be avoided
-
I would suggest the o.4, 0.5 & 0.6 sizes might be a better market to break into rather than the larger sizes

Are sewing machines worth the money
chrisash replied to Horsewhishper's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
My own knowledge is Embroidery machines and not leather machines , but what I have gathered on this forum that a good middle of the road seems to be the 3200 which seems to cover many requirements at a lesser cost or as stated above a good secondhand machine may be a wise choice and will not loose money but may also be kept for when you need both a larger and lower requirements -
How to become a master leather Smith
chrisash replied to Horsewhishper's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
It's such a wide subject Leather work that you cannot be a master of it, but you can be a master at a bit of the work. a person who is great at tooling may be very poor at making a saddle and so on. but as stated above three years is probably half a traditional apprenticeship in many leather work area's and that's gained by working alongside a master of the trade teaching you,, so keep practicing for another 15-20 years and become the master tradesman / woman -
What on earth has his nationality got to do with anything, so why are you guessing things rather that staying with facts, and if you are silly enough to believe every thing the press states to sell their own products, there is no need to pass it on as a fact

Just got one of the refillable pens not the Tandy ones but similar but you have to fill with dye, sells and thought hard to not spill dye anywhere In the end used a drinking straw, dip end into the dye place finger over top hole of the straw, pull out and place over the ink tube and take finger off the top, do that a few times and all OK

Someone posted in a earlier post to use as close to distilled water to avoid water marks or at least reduce them from chemicals in tap water -
Will this be a new skill to learn, Darn things sew a 100% straight line when you practice, then have a mind of there own when on your good item
