  1. You often don't see it yourself but from the outside its amazing how a few weeks in training can change a group of individuals into a team who all want to look out for the weakest member and help them along Maybe a dose of National Service would be good for all teenagers these days who seem totally lost
  2. What size of sales are you expecting from this person, if its just the odd one or two and he is expanding his business, then are you expecting to much from him Retailers often try new products and get a bit carried away with expected sales numbers or only have a couple of suppliers so are desperate to get more in to widen their scope of products, they have time to talk and may even bend over backwards to get you onboard Then the next supplier and so on comes along and business grows, not enough time in the day even working well into the night. end result no time for the guy with only a few sales, but more time for company who 's sales pay his wages Could be totally wrong Hope you solve it and get great sales
  3. Shoepatcher Just been looking up 3D printing of metal objects and it looks like they can make up the parts required in either Stainless steel or normal steel which may well be the quickest and cheapest way to go with a few made at the same time I would guess your parts could be scanned into a cad package to produce the data required
  4. Shoepatcher When you get them made, please put me down for a set, fantastic you have a virgin set , so copies will be made from original measurements rather than half worn out ones Guess you mean parts, 82067, 82104, 82069, 82108, 82106, 82071. Failing that can you convert to any of the other versions if it breaks chris@cjashdown.co.uk
  5. One thing i have found is that whilst filling in the background of a embossed belt from Tandy, a drop of dye fell onto the edge of the belt which stares at me every time i looked. In the end i covered it with watercolour paint. Thinking of this happening again , i tried some watercolour Latex over some leather, dyed a bit and then rubbed off the Latex. It leaves the leather as it was with no problems, Latex from artist shops is cheap and seems a good safe Guard painted over area's of risk
  6. Many thanks for the information, can you supply the numbers of the bits you mention so i can look this side of the pond
  7. Rather than buy another sealer, I am wondering if I can use Resolene which i have as the resist before using antique and then again after, or do you recommend another resist for better results
  8. Just found this free source of free singer 29k manuals which looks like it includes all versions of the 29k plus other singer models https://www.hendersonsewing.com/manual.asp?page=63
  9. Lotus cars glue the Aluminum together to make the chassis, perhaps with the Pilgrim you could sew together some cars
  10. Start with a EBay special for about £20 which has most items you need to start, polish the blades with jewelers rouge and you have a cheap start, then as you grow with experience replace with better tools when you can afford them, More expensive tools say knifes will hold there edge better and longer, and some tools look fantastic, but you need the skills first to appreciate the difference
  11. We have many options to waterproof leather these days from rain and the like How was it done in the old days for things like shoe's boots saddle bags etc and how effective were they
  12. I would guess that back in those days with a big demand on quick make items, they also used anything at hand to make up for lack of the right supplies , that would make yours look more authentic I like western films but hate the clean cut clothing they are always shown in, with never a washing line in site and no cowboys ironing there clothes whilst on a cattle drive
  13. Like the idea of PVA glue, must give it a try on chrome
  14. Caitlin Your now famous as far as England, well done and keep up the great work, will keep a eye out for your posts
  15. That seems to indicate you don't have a wife who keeps saying "why do you need another one of those" or you have her well trained after all the wives out there let the husbands break the crockery when they dance
  16. Hi Getting there 2 x 1.5 mm veg tan with tex 40 bonded nylonwith size 19 needles, guess size 18 might be better for this thin thread, I think its now just fine tuning
  17. Thanks that's great, got the needles today and she sews ok just needs a bit of adjustment to the tensions and the foot as that digs in leaving a very deep imprint, the teeth seem extra sharp to touch. I have the top tension looked off and the bottom tension quite tight but still get the knots showing at the top. the bottom seems to bind if i try to tension it any more which may be because the spring is very old and not used in years or maybe that tension on the big bar but no knowledge of really how that affects things. only using tex 40 at present should get some 96 tomorrow I will just buy from College , I just want a backup hook and some bobbins, anything else you think worthwhile buying as spares, made sure i got two threaders as guaranteed i will either loose or badly bend one at some time
  18. Love the two colour stitches, that's one thing sewing machines cannot do
  19. You can get a good finish first use water then after burnish rub bees way over the edge and re burnish all with a light hand
  20. Sorry to be a pain but another question Looking at getting some spare bobbins and found massive difference between onlne and College in prices Shuttle hook varies from £27.9 at College to £9.89 online including 10 bobbins I know some online bits are crap and others OK, question is if you use parts from the same supplier say either college or online has anyone found a problem regarding hooks and bobbins if you get my meaning AS all the singers seem to have the K in the code were they all made in the UK and if so why as I thought Singer was a american company
  21. Welcome to the forum I think you are better off just using Google and engineering stores like toolstation or your local motor factors. Tandy have massive markups where as toolstation and the like have a better selection and far cheaper, failing that ETSY Many things used in leather work are also used in other professions and the word "Leather" seems to add a few extra pounds to the price This is a fantastic forum for help and knowledge with plenty of UK people as well as many other countries Good luck
  22. Many thanks The first part was missing on the one i obtained on the web, is there any more info you know of as that still leaves many adjustments not mentioned and dont think there is anyone local with one i can ask. have not got the needles delivered yet so unable to see how it sews with original settings but bobbin thread feels like #69 so crossed fingers i can work from there
  23. Thanks Evo I do have that parts list and also includes how to thread the machine and change the bobbin , but that's about it. Just nothing which shows what all the parts do or even names them, I think there is a operating manual or maintenance manual for the 29K but have been unable to find it online, there was some links on the forum many years ago but they are now dead ends Also what do these three items control
  24. Thanks matt I have found this manual Manuel-instructions-Singer-29K51.htm but its in French also a few instruction and parts ones ones but no repair type on the 29 does anyone know any
  25. Gone with the 29x4 19, 22 for the #92 & #138 Thanks again
