Same problem when I started out. I bought an Arbor Press http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...Itemnumber=3552 $50.00 then I took the ram to work and drilled a hole 7/16" by 2 1/2" deep. Then drilled a cross hole and tapped it for a lock screw. Now I get nice deep impressions. I can mount any stamps with different handle sizes, 4 hole punch, etc. Then if you get any larger stamps like http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/bobpolgarsr3...QQ_fromZQQ_ipgZ I use a 1/4" thick pc of steel 4" X 3" on top to fully cover the emboss plate. I also replaced the bottom plate with a 4" x 4" plate. Dip to get wet start tooling when the color comes back, depending on thickness and wetness could be an hour up to 24 hours. Charlie

Are you using the material guide on the Boss? Charlie -
2 hours 15 min left http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:B:WNA:US:1123 not mine just ran across it. I do have one I was thinking of getting rid of, I paid 250.00 for the embosser & 60.00 per roll-only used it a couple of times. 250.00 + 240.00=490.00. Embosser & 4 rolls 450.00 with free shipping as long as it's in the States. I've seen them new for 399.00 and the rolls for 80.00 each. Charlie

I've been using this in the drill press and it also fits on the shaft of the motor I have a burnishing head on. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=35455 can't go wrong for the $. 4 sizes and you can cut sheets to fit them. It's got a cam lock to hold the sand paper on. The drill press I got there to. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=38119 works pretty good for the money Charlie

Contributions to Leatherworker
iwannabeacowboy replied to Denise's topic in Announcements and Administrivia
I know this is an old post, just thought i'd say thanks for a great forum. I find I spend to much time reading all the old posts. Lots of info to be found. And a big thanks to hidepounder for his edge finishing method. A one year subscription is a small price to pay for the improvement of my edges. Thanks to all for offering advise and the wisdom that you share. Charlie -
Anyone ever ordered from Leather Unlimited?
iwannabeacowboy replied to Hilly's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I first ordered a Black 8/9oz double shoulder. Best one I've seen yet. Then I tried 5/6oz veg tan side, very rough bumpy at least 1/3 of it. Also they seem to take longer to ship than most. Most of the time I buy on sale at Tandy, and get decent quality all the time and FAST. If I order today I'll get it Friday. Other stuff is quite cheaper than Tandy. Look at the price of oil dye at LeatherUnlimited $23.95, then look at Tandy's price $32.00 club cost!. Cheaper yet is STLeather. Qt $15.95 . Someday I'll try STLeather for leather. http://www.leatherunltd.com/care/dye/dye.html http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/home/de...ature=Product_6 http://stleather.com/2008-P35.html Charlie -
A Message from Billy 2-shews
iwannabeacowboy replied to Johanna's topic in Announcements and Administrivia
Billy and Mary are 2 amazing people. It's hard to believe her paintings look so much like real pictures. They were both given a gift of talent that most of us can only dream about. Wishing you and your family the best. Charlie -
Honing oil should soak in even with the rouge. But let the leather sit for a day for the oil to soak in. If it's flaking off, try a little water and rub the chunk of rouge into the leather. You should see the rouge break down a little when it's wet. After i've used the strop and it's time to put more rouge on, dip in water and rub on again.

Still no shopping cart??? I don't understand with a company not being able to get a functional site up and running. Do you think they feel all their customers live within driving distance? I can't imagine how much $$$ they've lost by not being capable of online sales. Me, I live to far to drive there for tools, so they already lost alot of my money.

I've never had it do that. I just made my 4th one and I read to get the leather wet with honing oil, let sit overnight then coat with rouge. Works pretty good. Charlie

Lining a belt
iwannabeacowboy replied to iwannabeacowboy's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks for all the pointers. This is my first lined belt, for a grand daughter. It will have a belt bag I made go with it. Charlie -
I bought this the other day, for the first time I can even up multi layers before starting the burnishing process. Mounted it in my tabletop drill press. It also mounts on "fantastic leather burnisher". Works great. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=35455 Comes with 2 sets of sand paper, save one set for a pattern for cutting more. Charlie
-
It comes with 2 of each size, then I bought a pack of sheets to cut down to size. I'll find out on Sunday if normal sand paper works. Charlie

Hi I was at Harbor Freight yesterday and found a Drum Sanding Set 4 pc for $19.99. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=35455 Mounted in my drill press(tabletop) and for the first time was able to even all my edges up for burnishing. They also fit on the bench motor of my "fantastic leather burnisher" . The 4 sizes in the kit will work on a wide range of contours. I almost bought a belt sander but wasn't ready to spend that much. When I find my camera I'll post a picture. Charlie
