Thank you for such a high evaluation of my work., Brian! Andrey.

Unfortunately, I could not find in Ukraine a Varathane Diamond Wood Finish. For the test, I bought an acrylic spray in the nearest DIY shop in the middle price category. Here such: Manufacturer MOTIP DUPLI GROUP (Europe). Price in Ukraine for 400 ml - $4. I suspect that any universal acrylic lacquer would give a similar effect. YinTx I too fear that using only a spray lacquer may not give the proper water resistance effect. Therefore I applied first, as usual, finish Appretto Mild (Kenda Farben), which gave waterproofing properties and a glossy surface. And then, exclusively for decorative purposes, applied a little matte spray.

Nice girls!

report on the work done I tried the acrylic spray. The result completely suits me. Before: After: The difference in color is the unhealthy desire of my camera to make a color correction Many thanks to all!

Thank you! My work has many flaws - if see at a professional look. But I hope that thanks to the information in this forum, the advice of the masters and the strong desire for to do more, I can achieve better results. I use a hand stitching and in this work I first time tried zig-zag .. I was very worried that it would not nicely. Before that, I used only a flat recessed seam .

I did not notice. Thank you for drawing my attention to this! I'll probably make an order and compare the results of everything that I was advised in this thread

Finished product.

Thank you, Charon. Unfortunately, I could not find the finish you mentioned in Ukraine. And if i order it, the price, including delivery, will probably be prohibitive. But in any case, your information is useful. While I'll try to use acrylic lacquer in the spray. I hope the result does not disappoint me

Eric, thank you very much for your advice!

Mike, many thanks for the help. I understand, it is necessary to take a polyurethane lacquer.

It is exactly that I do not see any obvious traces of the leather cut and caused my admiration for your professionalism. -

Clearly expressed - no. But on the runes there is clearly a very smooth difference in heights, which is usually achievable only in the case when the leather is not cut. I wanted to check if my guess is correct. -

This is all my bad English I was really interested in whether the beveling was used without a cut. Because I did not see the traces of a cut on the runes. Mike confirmed that this is the case. Thank you! -

Very beautiful cuts and beveling I admire and understand how much I still have to study and train. -

Mike, did I understand correctly that you use in this work a beveler without carving? And I join Gary in the question of leather. Looks very good! Andrey. -
Thank you! The reason for my request - I just had not yet been able to see the effect of UV on the leather. I will definitely do the proposed experiment - with the finish and without. I'm very interested in how much the finish affects the process.

If this does not make it difficult for you, can I ask you to post a photo with a changed by UV leather?

I for such purposes use a fine art brush to apply finish on the plots that should not be painted. After complete drying of the finish with the same fine art brush, I pass dye along the contact line. The amount of dye on the brush should be kept to a minimum so that it does not move into the thickness of the area covered by the finish.

Is there a finish (such as Resolene) that gives a matte surface? Or, in other words, how to get a waterproof matte surface? I would be grateful for any information on this matter.

But the very same 2 knives and dozens of the tools you use are based on the experience of using everything that you have. And guessing in advance what you really need would be impossible. I think that there is no ideal set of in, which would be equally popular with everyone. IMHO, through the buying phase of a lot for select the right one goes anybody.

I hope that by the time I work with the leather as much as you do, I will have at least a pitiful resemblance to such a collection

Lets talk about WOW factor in leatherwork.
ABHandmade replied to immiketoo's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
It seems to me that the wow-effect is important first of all for the master himself. To see and feel that your new work is pleasing to yourself more than the previous one is the best reward. Try to put next to your first project and the one that ended yesterday. WOW !!! But in order to make the subsequent work better than the previous one, you need to see and admit your mistakes, but not to sprinkle your head with ashes, and in order to prevent them from later. And constructive criticism of professionals is very helpful in this. PS. And more ... I think that sometimes even a very experienced master can discover something new, looking at the work of a beginner PPS. I consider myself a newcomer, because for the first time in my life I learned about the veg tan leather and a swivel knife in November 2017.
