  1. Thanks Ian. Where can you get that plastic that you used? I promise that's the last question! I appreciate your time. Chris
  2. Thanks for the thread Ian. The light bulb just clicked on. So the process would be the same except I could lace the seams instead of sewing. Did you use regular suction cups or are they special? I have an opportunity to make another sample pillion, but my husband suggested trying to make one like this so it might have the chance to sell, besides being just a showpiece. I guess the other trick is going with a thinner oz. on the sides as well. I appreciate your help. This will help avoid mistakes especially the way you also showed how to attach the cups. That was a sticking point between myself and hubby. He read on other forums about just drilling a hole and shoving the nipple in there. ( haha. I said nipple.) But that didn't sound too sturdy to me. Thanks again! Chris
  3. or a two piece gusset
  4. John, Those cases are beautiful. How do you construct the insides to hold the cues. Are they something that you do as well or do you get them from a company? TinyL
  5. "one on top and one on bottom" what i meant but couldn't explain properly because it was early in the morning and i was waiting for the coffee to brew, was having one seam on the side piece at what would be considered the top of the pillion and then one opposite it on the side piece that is considered the bottom of the pillion. Or maybe I should say two seams on the side pieces instead of four seams at the corners. I'm not sure if that's a better or worse description. let me know if my convoluted explanation is ok
  6. Thanks Tom and Maddhatter for the compliments. As it so happens, I got a call from a potential customer ( and I don't think he'll be a tirekicker either!) I hope it will come to fruition and I'll hear from him in another week or so.
  7. Thanks azrider. I figured I would need seams somewhere. Do you think you could get away with one on top and one on bottoms or is four better in the corners?
  8. Thanks for the compliment Art. Much appreciated!
  9. Hi Timbo - the bag looks great. I really like how you put space in between your stippled spots in the background. I always assumed they had to be touching but the effect is neat. I like the look.
  10. Can any of you give me some help with a puzzling question. How can a pattern be made to reduce or eliminate the gathers when doing the sides of a pillion pad? I can't wrap my mind around the problem and come up with a solution. The top will have a separate piece that will be laced to the sides. I can see having gathers underneath where the rivets would go, but how do make it smooth all around the sides and not have excess leather? Thanks for your help. TinyL
  11. Busted - I'd also like to see a pic of what the seat looks like with the insert in. My BIL would like another seat and was thinking having me put a gel insert in. I'm intrigued by your option but can't picture what you're describing. Plus, where do you get this small innertube and what does it look like? Thanks, TinyL
  12. This is the Betty Grable seat that I did for my first paying customer (woo hoo!) It's going on a '58 pan shovel trike. The owner was looking for a retro 50's feel for the bike and chose the famous Betty Grable pin up. This seat also had a skirt that was a separate piece. I would like to thank everyone on the help streaking thread because you save my butt. I thought the project was lost until I turned to you guys. Thanks again for all your help! Chris
  13. misfit - I love what you did with the lettering and how you matted the inside of it down. I think it looks great for your first seat. If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. Enjoy it! TinyL
  14. I just wanted to thank all you guys for your help on this issue. You save the job i did and thought i would have to scrap (which would have made me vomit ) Anyhoo, I'll post pix when i get home it. Once again, thank you sooooo much! Chris
  15. thanks guys. what if there was atom wax over the satin sheen. would denatured alcohol work? if i used that then do i need to do anything to the leather before i reapply the dye and then seal? thanks in advance TinyL
  16. I need to take satin sheen off and get rid of the streaking from eco flow dye. I know i need a deglazer but is there anything else i could buy from a local store ( hardware or otherwise) to take the satin sheen off? Otherwise i'll have to order it online and wait for it and i'd rather not. Thanks for the help!
  17. rickeyfro. I'm actually working on a job like that right now. It's in two pieces though, the seat and the skirt piece. For the skirt, I made a pattern from it and laced two pieces together fuzzy sides together. Part of the bottom will be visible so i couldn't use only one piece. The skirt is stamped and just needs to be wet molded at this point. I wanted to finish the seat and then wet mold the skirt while on the bottom of the seat. I'll try to post pix on saturday when I finish.
  18. Yes UKRay. She's from scratch. Thanks for the compliment. By the by, thanks for making me a "friend". I never had one before! Thanks Tom. This seat actually got me my first real (as in paying ) job. As soon as I finish I'll post pix! Chris
  19. Tom-your necklace is beautiful! I really love how you did the heart. I never occurred to me to make it 3D and the idea is fantastic. In my mind, i was toying with pendants and such in leather, but they seemed paltry looking. You're an inspiration! Tinyl
  20. The seat looks really sharp! Was it difficult to work with the softer leather, especially when braiding? TinyL
  21. Roger - that seat looks fantastic. How do you go about making a pattern for an irregular shaped seat like that? And plan your braid(basketweave?) to go around the edge of the seat? TinyL
  22. They're really cool. I like the yellow with the lacing. Pretty crisp and clean. TinyL
  23. That's awesome! I love, I say, I love Yosemite Sam!
  24. The seats look great Roger! I love the bags too! Chris
  25. It looks fantastic! I love the lettering.
