  4. Wanted to try something a little different. The Carolina coast was home to Pirates, the locals talk about. Granted this isn't a pirate ship, but it is a sailing ship. The pattern was a Gene Noland.

Thank you, it is a Jim Linnell Pattern for the cowboy. The floral is a Don Gonzalez. Thank you, it was fun.
  6. Nice work, love it when lifters are employed really adds life to the toolings.
  7. Wife killed a small rattlesnake at the foot of our ramp with a machete, late in the day. Then walked into our eldest daughters room and told her she's not going outside after dark. She didn't realize that when she said it the machete was still in her hand. A Southern Alabama redneck put a scare in her. We chuckle about it now. Like the hatband, don't know it I would wear it. Used to tell people they had better not be in front of me if I encountered a snake. It does look great on the hat, and is well done.

    Back At It

Ran into a problem with my notebook. The front and back covers are supple and wouldn't slide back in the pocket slots properly when closed. Thought of adding stiffeners to them, but the back of notebook was not held to the spine like what was wanted. The signatures are held in by the lace, why not use them and affix mounting points to tie it in. Took some of the lining leather glued and folded it on itself then set some grommets. Sewed them down then laced it in, now it stays better. Still some slack due to the lacing material used in securing the signatures. Thought this might help others. More photos

No Sir, 3 2 Down the Spine and one around the perimeter. Ok didn't know about dip cans in the shirt pocket, everyone I knew in Alabama had circle marks in their back pocket of the jeans. Like people have with cell phones. When you Durham it should have rang a bell I have tobacco fields across the road, and to many fields around to count. My wife took this in 2015 across the road of the tobacco being harvested.

Thank you. That will be nice on your range book. I am not into reloading anymore, had a 110 yard range in my back yard in Alabama. Don't really care for shooting ranges. My book is still within 10 feet of me. Don't have the heart to get rid of it. This is a photo with the notebook in.

This morning was able to finish the Front cover (Bronc Busting). It is still drying out and should lighten up the same as the back cover (bottom left). Will Tan-Cote them and start assembly. Pretty excited to see it together. Gini thinks it needs to be hand stitched, would be easier with a machine. The marks ever so slight would detract from it, so she is right again. The leathers are different tones because the front and back cover are Herman Oak (love) and lighter are Tandy. Tandy was on sale for a real good price and carves well so purchased a number if sides.

Thank you, sat in their a while after cleaning the area just looking at the tools. Forgot some of the names, slowly coming back. It was just like riding a motorcycle hop on and open her up. Thank you, the wood grain was fun. Used a different technique than have used in the past. Thank you, it is good to be back. Thank you, nice to be able to share again. Wow that is a long time, getting older is not for sissies. It is funny we spend our youth earning money, then when we are older we spend it on our health. Glad to hear you are able to manage your condition better.

Finished this guy up tonight, the cowboy is a Jim Linnell drawing, and the floral is a Don Gonzalez drawing. They go together quite well. It is such a fun caricature you can almost smell the manure and sweat.

I have been away from leather for about a year and a half. I was not tired of it, but had other things come up. These are my first three pieces, with the last being the figure carving. The results pleased me, I thought it was going to take me longer. The pieces are for a notebook cover for me, the figure carving will be on the inside front flap (sleeve), the basket weave will be the spine, and diamond will be the back cover. Glad to be able to share again.
  21. Sure, I use a form a friend made out of walnut and sealed them because of the wet forming I don't want the forms to absorb the water. I fit these specifically for the Pedron cigar in the tube. The person I made this for wanted it to hold four cigars. A great video to watch about how it is done is this one. If this doesn't answer your questions feel free to ask.
