  1. Finished a new knife sheath, the carving pattern came from Jim Linnell, it is amazing how you can repurpose a drawing for other items. Knife sheaths are a fun item to make, because each one is custom fit to the knife. Thanks for looking
  2. Thank you, I will try to out your suggestions to use. Harder than it looks when a good artist draws. LOL
  3. This is my first pattern drawn while taking Don Gonzales course. The bottom flower needs to be bigger, but I wanted to see it carved. Think it will be kept as a reminder of my starting point. Lots of improvement hoped for but it was fun creating my own design and satisfying. Suggestions always welcome, and thanks for looking.
  4. Hi thank you. the whole thing was antiqued, If you look up Jim Linnell Elk Tracks Studio he has great teaching videos. He is very down to earth and his style is very easy to learn from. It might be worth your time. Hope this helps.
  5. Nice job. love how you cut the leather for the pattern, it assembled very clean.
  6. Wow something to work towards. Thanks for posting.
  7. Nice, the stamping is great. Have wanted to try airbrushing, you are giving that nudge to try.
  8. Handsewn would be better no marks then, plus larger thread. Thank you
  9. Thank you, Jim put outs some great stuff. Thank you. Yes I am gluing the flap to the body, I sand the body first to give the glue something to bite into.
  10. Worked on a Cowboy Checkbook Cover from a Jim Linnell pattern. Looking for Critiques and suggestions on things to improve. Figure carving is a challenge of mine that I am working on improving. In the end I would like to start custom making items for others if my work is up to par. Thank you for looking and responding. Walt
  11. Working on a new Credit card holder for the Secrid RFID card holder. Basically a wrap that allows you to carry more card size items. Gini loves Sunflowers so we used this design from Jim Linnell and sized it to fit. She has one now I made a couple years ago and it shows how far my skills have come. Time for a new one.
  12. Thank you for the kind words, one thing I have found is good stamps make it a lot easier. I think this axe is more of a display piece, but I would love to see it aged and with a patina. Thank you, I will make friends with my class 4 just haven't made as many sheaths or holsters to get used to it. I love Maine Thread Co. also.
  13. Very nice work, love your edges especially. Well Done.
  14. This is actually the second sheath, firs sheath the needle came out of the edge. I mis-stitched ruining the sheath. I will make friends with it. I will soon make friends with it. Thank you Thank you, yes natural plus NF oil.
  15. Thank you, It is more of a display axe, Damascus steel very pretty, so I don't think he will take it into the woods. But I would love to see it in 3 or 4 years after aging.
  16. This is my first custom axe sheath for a friend. It is made with 9-10 oz Herman Oak leather, and Maine Thread Co. thread. Hand Sewn because I haven't made friends with my class 4 sewing machine yet.
  17. Thank you it was a privilege to make this for him.
  18. Just finished up a knife sheath with a very special meaning to the owner. The carving is of a Indian medicine wheel to represent his heritage as a Lumbee Indian. The six feathers with the two at the bottom representing him and his wife, and the four outside feathers representing his children, and the yellow on the tips of the feathers represent his six deployments overseas while serving in the Armed Forces of the USA.. The sheath is constructed of 7-8 oz veg-tan leather, with three layers because of using a welt instead of rivets so the knife wouldn't cut the threads. This sheath was custom fit for this knife and has a snug draw to it, so it doesn't flop around.
