actually Pastor Bob i dont think the Techsew 5100 noticed any difference .lol

I had this beaver tail laying around that was meant to be used in a gunbelt somehow but it was just too small. So I made the wife a cigarette case out of it instead. Really neet leather. Tough , durable, and cool texture. So I vacuum formed it over a piece of wood I made the size of a pack of 100s. Used # 96 thread and a #24 diamond needle.

I built mine to retract to the ceiling. It’s 4x8 with metal angles around the perimeter. Bought a hoist at northern tool and beefed up the ceiling and rafters. Now if I’m not using it I just push a button and up it goes.

I have to agree on the 441 clone machines. I have the Techsew 5100 and i was just thrilled that it does both jobs. # 69 thread #19 needle - Leather Sewing Machines - Leatherworker.net

I looked for a machine for almost 2 years. Same as lobo my hand stitching was becoming a PAIN. I saw plenty of substandard machines that would would limit me, nothing that would do almost everything I needed. One day on a whim I went back to the same place I had been to at least 6 times and there it was. Used!!!! They had just got it in and I knew it would be mine. Cheap!!, -

I finished it. Buckle and strap are done. I’m really getting used to this machine sewing. There are some limitations still but the 5100 is starting to grow on me. I actually set the speed a little faster too. Lol. 1 stitch a second was getting old. -
I’m experimenting with it. My first machine. I’m just glad I’m not stuck with just heavy leather. It really is a versatile beast.

I'm super surprised by the versitility of this 5100 from 277 in 2 10 oz veg tanned layers to # 69 and # 19 needle thru 2 3oz. veg. and i literally had no adjustments to do. the knot is in the middle and it sews like a dream. also that narrow needle plate and dog are allowing me to sew even the bigger thread right up to the edge. if i was to go any closer i would have a blow out on the side. happy camper..

That’s a tough one Jerry. Hopefully this group can help.

well its coming along now. still need to make and attach the buckle and strap. i want to sew a pattern in the blank above the gun. im thinking a double helix like a DNA strand or something. cuz as many times as i bled and tried to keep the ultimate stain from happening, i think it would be appropriate. -
.22 loops
Thescandall replied to Thescandall's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Meh. I went ahead and hand stitched it. Lucky #13. Just in case ya need 1 more -
I see no other way to do this without hand sewing.. there’s just not enough loop to move out the way for the presser foot. Besides lining up the two lines and hitting the spot dead on is turning out to be impossible. Also by the time I punch holes in the strap it takes all the integrity out of it. I’m usind 4 oz for the strap. I’m going back to my old way. 1/16 drill bit and 2 needles. It’s 3/8 on the belt and 5/8 on the strap. I feel it’s the only way to keep from maring up my gunbelt. Needs to be clean and unmared. I thought this machine would put an end to hand stitchin. Hmmmmm.

those are chicago fasteners. the ones in it now are just temporary.. i gots me some fancy ones in the mail that have a floral cap i use chicago fasteners to close all my holster. even the loop is fastened in that fashion. i can take it apart for maintence and cleaning. plus why sew it closed, as thick as my gunbelts and holsters are 3 little studs and its never going to give.. My 1st gunbelt i made lasted 22 years.. im still kicking myself for not just making it as sturdy as my ones now. Here in Texas and im sure elsewhere in places that even allow you to own a gun much less a six shooter. our guns are handed down for generations to our children or grandchildren. with that in mind it needs to last forever.. -
i like that fred.. i think i over complicate things at times.. Fred, im doing a face palm right now because that was just easy ..

Ok I’ve watched a few videos on how to sharpen them but mine are not flat on the bottom. They are grooved on top and bottom so I can’t just rub it on the leather strop. All the vids I have seen they just rub it backwards and then debur it on a piece of leather edge. I want a set I can sharpen without a lot of trouble getting in the groove. Point me in the right direction.

Hope this works. -
Started another one. I used Rockyaussie,s narrow plate and dog and it’s just a great improvement. 10oz veg tanned with 4-5 oz liner. Neetsfoot oil and tankote. I’m working on the look for the gunbelt now. 1957 ruger single six flattop with bighorn sheep grips.

I found these 2 neo mags in my junk drawer. Strong suckers. I’m gunna try it on my 5100.

rockyaussie, i spammed the techsew forum im a member of with your narrow needle plate and dog. hope your email blows up. im going to put it to work this weekend at the ranch. starting a new gunbelt and im gunna sew it with your stuff.

II guess I should have posted it here. But this thread is gone twisted. But yes, it fits perfect. The tolerances are the same as the stock ones are. This is a much better system for thick or thin. Kinda like putting a better saddle on your horse. Thanks again Rocky.

Techsew 5100 and narrow feed plate and dog
Thescandall replied to Thescandall's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I would like to add, that with this narrow plate the left presser foot now sits on solid plate. With the wide one that comes stock it is only sitting on half the plate and half the slot. Now it’s a solid hold while the needle is pulling up.keeping the material down. Hell I just got started jackin with it and see the difference. -
I would like to confirm that the narrow plate and dog fit perfect. It was a breeze to install with no mods or hastle . I’m able to get right up beside my needle foot and there is no gap for things to hang up on. I stitched some test runs and all is good. Thanks Rocky. It should work great on some thinner stuff.
