  1. Tande, the Consew 226 is the same as the 111W except the 226 has a reverse. It was, and still is a very good machine, one of the best when it was new. It has a small bobbin(G) style, but all parts are still available. Most, or all industrial sewing machine mechanics can repair this machine. If you are going to use it for leather, as usual, you should change the motor to a servo motor(the motor that's on there right now is probably a high speed motor because this machine was used primarily for upholstery, where they sew much faster), and add a speed reducer. Change the presser feet to the leather version(smooth bottom), so they don't mark the leather, and use a leather point needle. Depending on the cost, it may or may not be worth it. Thanks, Steve
  2. Roy, there are a few of us that can probably help you. You can call Ryan Neel at Neel Saddlery, Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing Machine Co., Dan Naegle at Campbell Bosworth, or myself, Steve at Leather Machine Co. Thanks, Steve
  3. Happy Birthday friend, hope you are acting 1 year older. Steve
  4. Dave, as I recall, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I have never seen a bolt on a Adler 30-1. Normally it is a tapered pin that has to be tapped in, and tapped out to remove it, or a threaded pin. Maybe somewhere along the line, a mechanic did not have, or couldn't get the right part, so he replaced it with whatever he could find. If I were you, I would get that bolt out (if it was a threaded pin, then the threads are probably stripped anyway), and replace both the connecting pin, and the piece it fits into. You might be able to get these parts from Bob at Toledo Sewing Machine Co. or an industrial sewing machine dealer in your area. Steve
  5. jeeperaz, I just received them 2 weeks ago. They will be on my website in a week or so, also in my new catalog that will be ready in about a week. Thanks, Steve
  6. Hi jeeperaz, I don't normally plug my own products, but you would be surprised at what is coming out of China these days. We have a post machine that is an exact copy of the Pfaff that sews smooth as silk. We also have one that comes out of the Highlead factory that is a fantastic machine. I am sure that Ryan (Neels Saddlery), Bob (Toledo Sewing Machine Co.) or Dan (Campbell Bosworth), has these machines as well. Call one of us for more info. Thanks, Steve
  7. Hi Regis, hope all is well. The belt from the handwheel of the sewing machine goes on the smallest pulley on the speed reducer. The belt from the motor goes on the largest pulley on the speed reducer. The reason that the middle pulley on the speed reducer is not used anymore, is in the old days, (before servo motors, when all there was, was clutch motors), the only way to change speeds, was to use the middle pulley, but that meant changing to a larger belt as well. With servo motors, since the speed is adjustable, it eliminated the middle pulley. Lets face it, it's much easier to turn a dial, or push a up/down arrow, than it is to change the belt. Hope this helps, Steve
  8. Ray, the 618 or the 18 is basically the same as a Consew 206RB (the basket is slightly different), or the old Nakajima 280 L, now owned by Juki and a few others. The same "M" style side load bobbin, 111W presser feet, and is a needle feed walking foot machine. They are capable of sewing 207(13) thread on top, and 138(20) in the bobbin. Steve
  9. Hennessy, I have also heard of this. Thanks for the warning. Steve
  10. Good job John. Call me if you need any help. Steve 1-866-962-9880
  11. Johanna, thank you for recognizing the 4 and ONLY 4 sewing machine dealers that have helped the LW members with our information regarding sewing machines. The 4 that you are addressing are: Dan Naegle from Campbell Bosworth, Ryan Neel from Cowboy Sewing Machines, Bob Kovar from Toledo Sewing Machine Co., and myself, Cobra Steve from the Leather Machine Co., Inc. If I may be allowed to speak for my friends,( which we are), we do this to help the good people on LW. As for name calling, we are not only friends, but professionals as well. Remember, Dan and Ryan are "Resident Pros" on leatherpros.net, and I speak to Bob frequently. Even though we are competitors(to a degree), we will always respect each other. So thanks again for honoring the 4 and ONLY 4 sewing machine dealers that are here for LW members, no matter what. Thanks, Steve
  12. Hey King's X, this offer is available for and everyone else, forever. Thanks, Steve

  14. John, a little bit, with some heavy duty parts added. Steve
  15. Before you buy a Sewing Machine based on price only, please call me at 1-866-962-9880. With my reputation, and my knowledge, you will be glad you did. You will have the advantage after talking to me, and you can use this advantage in your favor. You have nothing to lose, and potentially everything to gain. Don't pass up this opportunity, it's free! Thanks, Steve
  16. Hi John, the Singer 241 is an old garment machine. The machine is black, so you know it is old. It has no reverse, but long after we are dead, it will still be sewing somewhere. You can use it for light leather(garment leather), ans some things as thick as 3 or 4 layers of denim. At the time, it was the best. Thanks, Steve
  17. Hey jman, I respect your opinion. I like your straight-forwardness. I agree about needle and awl machines, if you can find one in great condition, and you are not concerned about reverse or a long arm, Dan and Connie Naegle from Campbell-Bosworth can help you. They are both my friends, and I will back them whenever I can, just as they do for me. I can assure you that the COBRA line of stitchers have no variance in stitches and make a beautiful back tack. There are hundreds of satisfied owners that will attest to that. There are different grades of factories in China, I deal with the best. Like for instance, my machines are painted on the outside, as well as on the inside(no other company that sells Chinese machines does this, except me), with the best protective ingredients available. It doesn't sound like much, but it will protect the casting from corrosion and rust, which will prevent cracking and chipping. Sometimes it's the little things, but the little things add up to big things. As for the "company you can trust" we will let the people decide. Thanks, Steve
  18. Mike, for that thick of leather, you should use a #23 or #24 needle, with a 207 on top, and a 138 in the bobbin. Be careful if you choose the #24 needle because depending on the needle deflector on your hook, (which may be slightly bent) it may not do it's job. The needle deflector is designed to do one thing....slightly deflect the needle so the point of the hook will not hit the needle causing the needle to break, or worse, damage the hook. I would try a #23 needle first, and turn the hand wheel by hand to see if there is any deflection before you start to sew. When you do start to sew, sew slow until the job is done. Good Luck! Steve
  19. sourkraut, the Pfaff 545 in my opinion, is the best walking foot machine that Pfaff ever made. This machine will take care of all of your light to medium sewing for leather. For best results, you will want to change the motor to a servo, and add a speed reducer, this will give you the control that you need. It will cost some money, (probably close to $300.00 dollars) but depending on what you pay for the machine, it will be worth it. You will also want to either, buff the presser feet so they don't mark the leather,or buy a set of smooth bottom feet for leather, and of course, use a leather point needle. The needle is a 190R system, unless a mechanic somewhere along the line, converted it to the more popular 135X16 system. Thanks, Steve
