  1. Hey Josh, the machine is a 2 needle compound feed machine. It was, for a long time, the best that there was. They can still be rebuilt and last a lifetime. Hope this helps. Steve
  2. Hi Regis, hope all is well. The Consew 2230 is a single needle lockstitch machine for garments. It does not have a walking foot. It is used by tailors, dressmakers, dry cleaners, bridal shops, and your everyday seamstress. Thanks, Steve
  3. Stoke, there is a reputable dealer in your area. If I were you, I would contact Tim Cox at Zack White Leather.1-800-633-0396. He sells a variety of leather stitchers that would suit your needs. He also sell all of the supplies you will need, and is a good guy. Thanks, Steve
  4. Hi Andy, this machine is a very good machine. It's worth the $650 but if you can get it for less, even better. You will want to change the presser feet to the leather feet so it doesn't mark the leather. This is a compound feed machine meaning that the needle, center foot and the feed dog all move together. Depending on the leather, you could probably sew up to 20-24 oz. Thanks, Steve
  5. Hey Badger, wish you well, can't keep a good man down!
  6. Hi AK Raven, the presser feet that come with the COBRA Class 3 & Class 4 have been modified to do many different applications, from skirting, to bullet loops, to strapped goods and just about everything in between. Go to our website to see if these are the type of feet that you are needing. Look at the new ad. Thanks, Steve
  7. Hey Clint, if you ever need any help with your machine, you can always call me. Steve. 1-866-962-9880
  8. Hi Larry, you can call me anytime you want, and I do my very best for you, no matter what. Thanks, your friend, Steve
  9. Hey Steve, perfect for upholstery means that it is a walking foot, or compound walking foot machine. There are many differences between an upholstery machine and a leather machine even though they could be the same machine. They are set up differently. Upholsterers like to sew fast, sometimes, very fast. They do not have to stay in stitch grooves, or hit certain marks, they just have to get the job done fast. Most upholsterers have been doing it for so long, that they can do it with their eyes closed. The machines do not have speed reducers, presser feet for leather, or use a leather point needle. These are the biggest differences. You can convert an upholstery machine to a leather machine by adding the speed reducer, but you will have to modify the belt slot by making it longer, and sometimes drill new holes for the motor, and changing the presser feet. Thanks, Steve P.S. I am still waiting to hear from you after we met in Wickenberg. I grew up in Burbank. Call me at 1-909-425-2080.
  10. Hello, the Juki 563 is a large drop in "U" style bobbin with a large hook. It is a needle feed, walking foot machine with reverse. At the time, it was one of the best, if not the best that money could buy. It is now 20 or so years old, but still a very good machine. Steve
  11. Hi Gregg, the Slotted Plate is designed for top stitching on strapped goods, like reigns, belts, headstalls, and so forth. Most machines (including ours), are set up with a feed dog to accommodate heavier thicknesses. The slot in the regular plate, which comes set up on most machines, including ours, is wide, so when putting a top stitch on the edge of the strap, the right edge of the strap will get caught in that slot when the feed dog drops below the plate after each stitch. By using the slotted plate (you must take the feed dog out), this eliminates that wide slot, because the slot on the slotted plate is very narrow. The strapped good that you are sewing cannot fall into that slot. This plate sells for $50.00 to $100.00. This plate is no charge when buying a COBRA Class 3 or COBRA Class 4. Steve
  12. Hi all. here is what I can tell you about Holster Plates. *1, they are only for pre-formed holsters. *2, there is no gray area for Holster Makers. 50% say they will never use a Holster Plate, and 50% say they can't make one without it. *3, they are very costly, somewhere between $100.00 and $200.00. *4, before you invest in a Holster Plate, see what category you fall in. *5, when using the Holster Plate, you must remove the feed dog. There is a learning curve for using this plate, lots of practice. *6, the Holster Plate has a raised portion for the Holster to set on, this allows the user to turn the Holster without the Holster hitting anything as it's being fed, like a clip. Hope this helps, Steve
  13. Hello, the Singer 27 Class came in 2 versions, one being the fiddle bed and one the regular bed. Both versions had the famous Singer Gold Scroll Decals. This machine is the Singer 127 Class. The bobbin is a long bobbin and is a lightweight machine. Thanks, Steve
  14. Hello, it all started with the Thompson Mini Walker machine. It was a portable walking foot machine. The Tuff Sew, Sailrite, as Ryan mentioned, the Mini Brute, and others do the same thing. I personally feel that if you are going to spend 500 bucks or so, and you're serious about the leather trade, then it's time to jump. There are many dealers and distributors that carry the machine that you need. Contact myself, or any of the others on this forum to further assist you. Thanks, Steve
  15. The Singer 500A machine was one of the last metal gear machines manufactured before the 600 series metal gear Touch and Sew machines. It is probably worth more today than when it was first bought. If you take care of this machine, it will last forever. Hi Ed, Hi Bree, hope all is well with nyou all. Thanks, Steve
  16. Hey ArtS, the graphic desiner was at my store yesterday. He took pictures for the new ads, catalog, and website. The new info will be available in about a week. Thanks for your interest. I think you will love what you see. Steve
  17. Hey all, speaking of a new look to sewing machines, the response to our new colors was fantastic!! We painted our new COBRA Class 3 and the new COBRA Class 4 Root Beer Brown with a Beige handwheel, faceplate, speed reducer, and pedestal, giving it what many people said was that "leather look". We had many people(practically everyone) telling us how much they liked the new look. Al Gould, Bob Klenda, Jesse Smith, Don Butler, Chan Geer, Bob Beard, the folks from Hide Crafters, Vern Weaver, and others all said how much they liked the new colors. Everyone will see the new look "Dream Machines" in the near future. Thanks for listening, Steve
  18. Hey Steve, I met you in Wickenburg. I noticed that you are from the San Fernando Valley. I grew up in Burbank and graduated from John Burroughs High School in 1971. (Keep your comments to yourself everybody, I don't feel that old). I don't know where to get the pattern you need, but someone on this forum will. I would like to share some old memories together that we never had, call me 1-909-425-2080. Thanks, Steve. By the way, great name!
  19. Thanks Twin Oaks, Elton, and Kevin, I appreciate it.lol
  20. Thanks Bree, and you know that I am there for you no matter what. You can call me anytime sweetheart. lol
  21. Hello, there are many machines that will do what you need like the COBRA Class 3 & Class 4, the Cowboy Machines, the Adlers, and others. There are some contributing factors that you should think about before you purchase a machine. In my opinion, after the sale is more important than the sale itself because after the sale, goes on forever. I am well known for my customer service and tech support, as many will attest to on this forum. I will go out of my way to make sure that you fully understand, and at the same time, feel comfortable with your machine. Make sure that you do your due diligence before you make the purchase. Get as much info as you can. Thanks, Steve
  22. Hello Apex, there are many reputable companies that sell the type of machine that you need. The machine you need is a compound feed machine. Which is a needle feed, walking foot machine. All of the compound feed machines come with a feed dog as well. Most are capable of sewing 3/8". Call me at 1-866-962-9880 and I will give you the name of the closest dealer to you that sells this type of machine. Thanks, Steve
  23. Hi Ian, I can tell you some things for sure. The presser feet, needle bar, needle plate, hook, bobbin case, tension assembly, presser foot pressure knob, and reverse lever are all Pfaff, or copy of the Pfaff. Steve
  24. Hello Flying Cuda, the machine is a home machine capable of doing light leather, maybe 8-10 oz. depending on the leather. What you really need is a walking foot machine. Depending on what the machine is selling for, and what kind of sewing you plan on doing, then you should really think about it before you purchase it. If you need more info call me at 1-866-962-9880. Thanks, Steve
