Machine sewing: finishing/securing the stitching
Cobra Steve replied to RunningRoan's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hi RunningRoan, I've seen people use a thread burner to melt the thread just inside the hole. It looked good to me. Keep in mind, that if you use the back tack technique that I told you about,( turn the hand wheel towards you until the needle bottoms out, then continue to turn the hand wheel towards you until the needle comes up 1/4 of an inch, then put the reverse lever all the way up, then do your back tack for 3 or 4 stitches. The machine will sew in the same holes that you sewed forward in for a perfect, uniform back tack), then use the thread burner after you trimmed your threads. Steve -
Hi WARHORSE, I agree with Wizcrafts. Get as much info as possible, then you can make your decision. Thanks, Steve. Thanks for the consideration, Wizcrafts.

Welcome azcowboy! Glad you're here. Steve -
Hi Mike, yes Ryano has a good point, but the COBRA Class 4 is more versatile and it makes a heck of a nice stitch. You can't go wrong with either one. Steve

Hawaiian Saddles by Pete Gorrell
Cobra Steve replied to Johanna's topic in General Saddlery Discussion
Yes, I agree, Pete is very respected and an all around good guy! He is also the proud new owner of the COBRA Class 4 Dream Machine!! Thanks, Pete. Steve -
Hi guys, normally, if the tension is inconsistent, it is caused by the bobbin tension. Tighten the bobbin tension 1/4 of a turn, (never more than a 1/4 turn, no matter what), which will pull the top thread to the bottom of the leather, then tighten the top tension one full turn. If your machine has two tension assemblies, then tighten both tensions one full turn. If this does not work, call me at 1-866-962-9880 and I will go over a few other things with you. Steve P.S. Elliot, a 10 pound hammer won't work as well as dropping it out of a third story window!

Hi Al, I will ship one to the moon if you lived there! The COBRA Class 4 will sew from 6 oz. to 7/8 inch whatever. Yes it will sew uphill as well. They are available in 220V. I think you will need 2 COBRA Class 4's if you want to replace both of them. (Ha Ha) Thanks, Steve Hi Heather, nice to hear from you and thanks for the plug. Call me if you need me. Steve

Cobra 3 machine - bobbin tension
Cobra Steve replied to tterrapin's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hi Cheryl, loosen the top tensions (both) 1/2 turn each until the stitch is correct. Turn the large round adjusting screw counter clock wise 1 full turn to take some pressure of of the foot. If you still have a problem, please call me at 1-866-962-9880 and I will walk you through it. Thanks, Steve -
