  1. O K ,  thick haired lady said that she couldn't quite snap it . Her 16 year old daughter with not quite as coarse hair was able to and it worked well for her.

So my take away is it might work for most ladies , also being veg tan you could wet it and stretch it over a broom handle or something .

Well you never know until you try ............. so back to the drawing board  !

Actually, I like the idea of the snaps. I will try that. The sticks, I have discovered, can get tangled and the bands - scrunchies or whichever is used, often pull put hair when getting them off. Then, getting the hair off them is a pain, never mind the loss of  hair! What do other women do, I wonder.

Let me know how it works for you please . I have a woman trying this one out and should hear from her tomorrow but a larger sample size is always better :spoton:

Gezzer and Fraulein thank you so much! That was exactly what I was wondering. I sure it's a lot harder than it looks getting letters to look. For beveling is it ook to just stick to the basic beginners kit tools? I'm just getting into tooling a bit and just have the basic checkered bevel.

The only bevels I have are from starter tool kits , like most tools they will work just fine . The more you use them the more things  you will find you can do with them .  Some times you will have to tip a bevel and just use a small portion in tight places .   The pic I posted was done with a Z-B 701 .........  came with a cheap starter kit .

Like Fraulein said      PRACTICE  is all it takes .

  4. While I don't claim to be very good at letters here is what I do.

Choose the font  and size you want

Print what you want out ( resize if you need to )

Once I have it like I want I cover both front and back with packing tape

Transfer to cased leather with ball end stylist , cut with swivel knife , bevel and do any other tooling you want

The fancier the font the more difficult it is for me !!!!!!

  5. Cotton wheel on a grinder and some of this compound .  240 may be as course as you want and I would finish up with 400 myself .  You will find a 100 uses for it once you try it , the coarse grades cut pretty quick .

Just noticed you don't have the grinder ........ sorry about that ,  Good luck

  6. @CJJ Thank you .

@MarshalWill Thank you , it works well for small  patterns .

    @Hags Thanks !  Good idea . using small ones for tools/parts ?

@Fraulein  I just use a straightedge the width I need ( 3/8 inch in this case ) to make the pattern size I want.  There is no lay out other than the first 2 lines at 60 degrees ( that is just what I use ) , then I just move straightedge over for each cut. I could NOT get close to straight freehand with the awl

They look great! Really like the diamond pattern on the one. Was that done with a swivel knife?

    Thank you very much !

While I have used a swivel knife for this small pattern it is much quicker and a it easier to use a stitching awl .  It cuts nicely without worry of going too deep . Bigger patterns still get the swivel knife ,

I've made quite a few of those! Who would've believed the different methods of making an oval.

Yeah right you are ,  I make 2 sizes ( real thick hair and not so thick hair ) and thinking about doing some smaller for little girls .
