Okay, last night i tried to make a 2 loop edge braid with bigger laces ( cut from Goatskin) on crap leather and it works very well and looks really fine. And today the tribolts arrived (a friend of mine is a metalworker). So in the next time I will try to make a stool and post it.

Hallo Jens, willkommen im Fourm! Ich bin auch reenactment-mäßig unterwegs, allerdings merowingerzeitlich. Übrigens: "Ein Bier bitte!"

Hello and Hallo! Welcome und Willkommen im Forum!

I´m trying to make a three-fold-stool and when I´m searched the Forum there are formed a Question in my mind? Sewing or lacing? Here´s what I´m thinking about: The red arrows show the Edges where I think that some great forces are working, so I´m thinking what would be better, sewing or lacing. Lacing with a "bigger" lace ist quiet pretty and of course will hold, but what is with normal lace or sewing? Won´t it "break" with the time or when bigger Persons sit on? I´ve never done a Stool before, so what would you say? p.s. the picture does not show a stool made of me, I took it here from the Forum

My first belt

I don´t think you should make it easy to read instead using an edge groove or so. It´s very cool as it is. I like it very much! -
Star Wars Belt Buckle
Aulus replied to K-Man's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
In this picture for me it looks like polished (better: used) metal like brass, copper or so. I agree you could do this using a Seeder and beveling the edges. But you should keep the colour in mind when you´re finish it. You should try to achieve this metal-look. my 2ct p.s. ever thougt about using little rivets? -
Today I´ve got my 14oz tapered Maul from Barry King. And what should I say? It´s the greates Tool I´ve ever used. In future I think I will get a 20oz or more too for heavier duty so like Basketwaves. But I think I can do this so long with my old poly head mallet. just my 2ct

Thanks a lot for the answers. If the Belt is for "normal Use" the customer should say how he want´s the Belt sewn. For Dog or Horse Gear I usually don´t sew across the Axes. I´ve never done and I won´t do it in future.

So, the last Days i surfed the Internet for Belt ideas. And there is one, that I find really nice. The Quality of Manufactum-Products ist very high, I´m ordering often there (the original Firm is from Germany). But now, heres my Problem: This Belt is sewn across the Axes of the Leather. rhall told me i should´nt do that because it will weak the Leather (take al look at this Threat) when I was showing how i did a service Belt. Is that really so? I like it to sew across axes I find it looks very fine. But if this is really a problem, I won´t do it in future work.

Is there a difference b/t a crafttool or a Al Stohlman swivel knife?
Aulus replied to filluptieu's topic in Getting Started
Just a week ago, i worked with a normal swivel Knive from Tandy. Since a week I work with one from a fried who buyed them in Japan. And I must say, the Tandy one is crap against this. The thing is, that the Tandy ones (the "normal" ones) are not whith a ball spindle, that makes them not good. And the Stohlman one looks fine but you can have better ones for cheaper. Just like Berry Kings Knives. -
Very nice, yes I like it. Could you tell me what kind of Backgrounder you´ve used? Or is this the original Leather-Surface? It looks great.

Notice: The Viking Era starts at 793. About 600 - 793 in Skandinavia its called Vendel-Period. In the rest of Europe ist 600 - 750 merovinigan Period, later karolingian Period, and then Ottonic and Salier. Viking Period is only in Skandinavia and in UK. Now about 600, this is exactly the time I do reenactment, so I may help you. We´ve diskussed a lot about bags and pouches but there is no really archeological found. When you look at pictures from this time you can see some half-round bags. They where worn at the Belt or as Shoulder bags and in many sizes. This is for Viking-Era too. About carving: We all in Europe hope that a Bag will be found with carving on. At this time it doesn´t exist any carved bag. The only thing is a bag with a "braiding" on, found in Krefeld-Gellep not in Scandinavia. Sorry. My own oppinion is that if they´ve doing any carving, it will be invertet. Just like the ones on the Dog Collar I´ve shown here (Sutton Hoo) If you would only do nice bags witch are not authentic, you should look for Books about Urne- Mammen- and Jellinge-Style. If you need some attachments for Rus-Bags, so look for the Birka-Trader form Australia. They make very fine things. If this is not yours, tell me I can watch out. @Daggrim: I´m sorry, there are a lot of pictures about me, my wife and my friends in the Internet, but only on german sites i know. And there only in Galleries of some Homepages where they describe reenactments. I think you could find any photos in Homepages about merovingian Period because this is "my" time. Our Homepage is down at the Moment and I don´t know if or when we relaunch. Just look for "Aulus", I think you can find any photos. But not really actual, because my wife had a brain-tumor and we´ve paused for 1 1/2 year. Here you can start: Pictures I´m the one with yellow trousers and blue Tunic, and red/blue Shield

Oh, its no at Dog-School for State Service, it´s a Club. There are many, many of those Clubs in Germany. But everyone says "Hundeschule" -> Dog School. You can take a look: Our Dog Club / School but the Site is only in German. I have a Labrador-Retriever, and in our Dog-School ist a group of the German Red Cross at training. Once I made a Muzzle for their training and they asked me if I would come for training. I think I will do that.

Nice, my Wife comes from Arnstein, it´s near Schweinfurt. And yes, I think I will feel fine here, there is really no real Leatherwork Forum in German, if you believe or not. Only crap. Or I´m too stupid to find it.. If you google a "Lederforum" you will lead to fetish Sites...and thats really not my thing
