Attach the Brass Mold Secure the custom brass stamping mold onto the Maxita hot stamping machine and align it with your leather piece. 2. Preheat the Machine Set the appropriate temperature and wait for the machine to reach the set level (usually 1-2 minutes). 3. Position the Leather & Foil The push-pull worktable makes it easy to position leather items Place the hot stamping foil over the leather and secure it with heat-resistant tape 4. Perform the Stamping Gently press down, ensuring full contact between the stamping mold and the leather. Hold for 2-5 seconds, then release. 5. Peel Off the Foil Once the leather cools, carefully remove the foil to reveal the embossed design. Hi All - New to the forums and wanted some feedback on my companies' leather craft. All our products are handmade. Hand stitched, hand burnished, we hammer in our copper rivets by hand. We use only full grain, vegetable tanned leather (quebracho, mimosa blend). We'd love some feedback, especially on our rolls - see attached photos. They are really functional, but we're looking for suggestions, features to add, or general improvements to the design. Any suggestions for how you'd use them? Features you would like to see ideally? Each slot of the center strap tool roll with the wrenches adjusts so you can put various items inside. I only make shoes for myself — much as I would like to turn my hobby into a profession, I can’t see how to make the numbers work at present. So I was interested to see this blog post from a professional shoemaker lamenting “The Extinction of a Craft” https://shoesandcraft.com/2018/02/05/the-extinction-of-a-craft/ I had lots of thoughts on reading this, two of which were: 1) People who make footwear for love not money (whether you call us amateurs or hobbyists or something else) are likely to be key to keeping many aspects of the traditional “craft” alive in coming decades. For example, just look at all the amazing ideas and sharing of expertise on this forum. 2) We need better educational materials for people to teach themselves how to make footwear, if “only” as hobbyists. Ideally, these would be materials that can stand the test of time — forum posts, or blogs, or tweetstorms or even online videos may not be around in 5 years let alone several decades from now. I’d be up for thinking more about how to achieve 2) if any one else is interested in collaborating on this.
