Good morning- Has anyone seen a makers mark of JC under the swells? I have a saddle with EZ Rig d and the only mark I can find on it is JC 310. I have photos but can’t do fire out how to attach them. Any info is appreciated.

Hi! I bought this saddle last year from a friend who had no luck identifying it from the maker's mark. I've done a bit of research, and was wondering if it might have been made by Onofre Hill. The saddle hadn't been used in a long time, and it's on the heavy side. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm finally thinking of having a maker's stamp made. Would love some input before I commit. Making mostly small things, belts, wallets, etc. What size should I be considering to have it readable, but not overpowering? Any other suggestions and guidance would be much appreciated. Would love to see some of your marks and how you're using them! Please share photos if you're willing.

Hello all, Forgive me if this has been covered. I am sure it has been at some point. I am having some brass stamps made so I can do some hot stamping. I currently stamp my makers mark and some requested stamping patterns with a shop press. I am wanting to use an arbor press for accuracy in layout. I plan on buying something inexpensive and having a machine shop bore out the arbor for an insert. My question is does anyone known the thread size and pitch of the most commonly available dies for setting snaps/rivets etc. The insert I have made will be threaded as appropriate and I also want to advise my brass stamp maker on what size rod to make fit the brass stamps. If I am thinking right, the rod that the brass stamps thread onto could be the same size as the insert that will go into the bored hold and fasten with a set screw. The same bored hole will accept the insert that is tapped for the snap setting dies. Clear as mud? Any help you might offer is greatly appreciated as well as a source for good quality snap setter dies. I know Tandy sells them but non sure if they are worth buying or if there is a better option. Thanks in advance, Scott

Help please! I'm trying to sell this saddle and need help identifying it. No maker's mark anywhere on it. I think it was bought for barrel racing purposes, given the seat, but am wondering if I'm wrong and it should be listed as a pleasure/trail saddle. Does anyone know its maker and/or can identify its proper classification?

Hello, everyone! I'm looking to do an equipment upgrade in the near future and I need a little guidance from those who have already taken this path... I currently set snaps, rivets, etc by hand (& hammer). Same thing with the Delrin makers mark that I've had since I started this little journey...I plan to upgrade to a metal one as part of this retooling. What do you suggest for a press-type machine that would handle those duties as an upgrade? Modified arbor press? I know the GoldStar press works with snaps and rivets...does anyone have experience using it with their makers mark? As always, the input and suggestions from this community is appreciated and helpful! Thanks in advance! Chris

This saddle was on the forum 3 years ago, thought I'd put it on again to see if there is any new or different info available from anyone. Three years ago, comments pointed me to the Bona Allen saddle from the mid-fifties, factory made. Any other info, not only about the maker's mark, is appreciated. Does anyone have an idea of value? Here's the info I posted about it in 2013. I have an old western saddle rescued from a camp's barn that is tooled all over except for the seat. The faintness of the tooling on the pommel and yoke and left fender indicate it was well used for a long time. There is some tooling on the cantle. It has conchos with leather strips. Behind the cantle, sewn to the skirt, is a leather tab with the number 485 stamped on it. I have searched all over for a maker's mark and didn't see one until I used a strong light. There MAY be a maker's mark in the center of the top of the horn. The mark is almost totally worn away, but I can see part of a circle. When using a pencil rubbing, there may be a sideways 8. After looking at Bona Allen maker's marks, I wonder if this sideways 8 is the top part of the 2 B's on the Allen mark. This mark on my saddle's horn would be small. Anybody have any info about saddle makers who placed their mark on the top of the horn?

Has anyone ever tried to make a stamp tool out of wood? If so was it successful? I would love to have a makers mark but it will be an extremely long time before I can make one. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone. I recently made up some custom key holders for a buddy of mine's truck group. He wanted an exact replica of how they used to make them in the 60s-70s like his. I cut/stamped/carved everything by hand and not gonna lie it was a giant pain in the ass just to do 10. but they did turn out pretty cool. 1st pic is mine on the right and the original 50+ year old one on the left. pretty damn close! Anyways the owner of the shop/group loved them and posted a picture on his instagram of it. Well now he has 100+ people who are dying to buy one. So he wants to order 500 key holders with his logo and info. So obviously I am going to automate the process as much as possible which means I am in need of a custom die and custom stamps! I am just looking for quotes at the moment so I can determine a wholesale price for him or if this is even worth doing. What I need exactly is the attached logo and the 3 text lines in the picture of my hand stamped one. He want to do the shape of the 3 in the 2nd pic so logo and info will need to fit in that rectangle space. He also want the embossed stitching border if possible but I am not sure if that is something that will be worth doing for the price. I am having trouble finding a stamp maker who does more than just make small maker's marks but doesn't charge a crazy amount for a bigger stamp. I do not have a clicker so it would need to be a mallet stamp. Both stamps will probably be in the 1''x 2'' range. Anyone have any experience with getting bigger logos and stuff done in a stamp or know of any contacts? I have the die design ready to go with Texas custom dies but I am not getting anywhere with the stamps and he wants these asap. I am pretty new in leatherworking and may or may not have bitten off more than I can chew. There might be a good reason you cant get these new anywhere...But I really want to try to make this work if possible. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
