Hi! I'm new here.. I've was wondering if you guys could give me some advise. I've been making leatherwork for 6 years, and I've only shopped in store at my local Tandy leather. I'm realizing that I would like to lower my cost of materials and actually make some money... ( : How are you buying your materials to lower the cost? What store do you like the best? Any help is appreciated!! Lauren

I've typically just bought from the shop in town. But at the rate I go through leather it's adding up and got me thinking that I should consider other options, everything else I use I tend to buy wholesale and this got me going down the rabbit hole of the internet trying to find a Canadian tannery or wholesale option. I've had no luck with this with the exception of a couple guys that tan leather out of deer hides or I might find a supplier that's little cheaper but then the shipping costs within Canada make it not worth it. Right now I'm using around 6-8oz latigo leather for strapping on backpacks and paying around $15CAD a sqf which seems to be the going rate in Canada for retail? Has anyone found a good online supplier, tannery or wholesale in Canada? Similar to Hide House or anything like that? There are quite a few options in the US but as other Canadians know it's the shipping and duties that kill that option and make it too pricey. Curious if anyone has found anything in Canada? Or if you're Canadian and buy from the US what's your experience like and who have you used?

It has been the craziest uphill battle to find high quality such as Horween in Canada at a decent price so that's why I decided one day to take the wheel myself and help everyone out. Purchasing leather online is one of the scariest things to do because you don't know what it will be like in person so I did my best to take as much worry out of the process as I could. I hope this is seen by people who went through what I did and understand the frustration! However thank you for taking the time to read this, I have attached a link so that anyone can come browse what we have to offer! https://www.oaleathersupply.com/ Take care!

I am looking for sustainable source of leather alternative fabric, ideally possessing the same or similar qualities to leather; soft, breathable, easy to work with, for a baby shoe business. Really struggling to find manufacturers/wholesalers so any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've had an online leather retail store for 10 years or so. Currently I run over 50 websites, many different ones. I'm trying to build up my main leather retail store with new items. I try to sell unique and different items, not the same stuff everyone else has. I also want high quality items. If you make anything you'd like to sell wholesale let me know and I'll see what I can do. Nothings too small or too different. I sell all kinds of biker stuff too. Thanks!

I have not logged in for a long time...and when I did I saw some very outdated posts and information about our company. Here's the deal: YEP! we've been in business for a very long time. YEP! Ray still works here (40 years) and knows his shiz! YEP! I'm still actively managing operations here (only 16 years)! YEP! We still have live people answering the phone, who are really nice and helpful! NOPE! We are not running our business the same as we did 20,10 or even 5 years ago! YEP! We are still a wholesale distributor, with an easy qualification process and a $30 minimum order (NOT $75). YEP! WHAT? We now happily offer RETAIL PRICING. We are adding new products every day. YEP! We heard your feedback and OTB will launch a new "better user experience" website this November, with many enhancements and it will be mobile friendly. Please contact me with any questions and I welcome the opportunity to respond to any comments or feedback, even positive ones. All my best jackie@ohiotravelbag.com http://www.ohiotravelbag.com

Hi! I was wondering who you guys love to buy your hides from? I'm super happy with my Wickett & Craig English Bridle for handbag straps buy want a buttery soft 2.5-3.5 oz. hide for handbag bodies and clutches. I occasionally use the Tandy Minelli sides but am looking for a larger hide to yield more products. Plus, I think I can find a larger hide at a better price. I own a business so anyone who does wholesale pricing is a plus. If you work with soft garment weight leathers I want to know where you like to purchase it from! Thanks for any feedback!

My company needs someone to produce simple & nice wallets for my leather laser engraving business. First we order a sample. Then we order 10-20 depending on your price and requirements. Then we continue to order more as our stock diminishes from sales. We are hoping to build a long term and ongoing relationship with a problem solving organization/craftsman who can keep help us keep up with our demands. Attached are sample pictures of a wallet style we like... It could be a bit different but, this is the general idea of what we like. We want the thick stitched rustic look. If you have ideas or variations we are open to them. Requirements: Full or Top Grain Leather Semi-Aniline? Thick stitching (pref. nylon thread) Very Good quality Please tell me why you are a good fit for this project? This would be a contract arrangement. Also how much would you charge per wallet? Qnty. 10, 20, 50, 100 Thank you! BryanOakley22@gmail.com

For several years now, I've been a member of Tandy's Wholesale Club at the $35 Gold Level. I've always been curious about the break-even point of this membership -- ie, how much I have to spend at Tandy in order to start saving money. Yesterday, I renewed my membership and purchased $111.98 worth of merchandise. I did the math, and this stuff would have cost $136.27 at retail. This ended up being an 18% savings (or $24.29). Looking at the individual line items, it seems Tandy offers Gold Members a 20% discount on most hardware, dyes, glues, etc. The savings on leather is somewhat less: the discount appears to hover in the area of 10-15%. Obviously, the break-even point varies based on the mix of products you purchase. But for anyone considering the Wholesale Club, my math indicates an average 18% savings for Gold Members. So, it appears you have to spend roughly $200 at Tandy before you recoup the $35 membership fee.
