DaveP Report post Posted March 25, 2023 A friend asked me to sharpen his knife. Once I got it home I noticed the point was really dull. More so than the rest of the blade. After looking at it for a little bit I put it in the original sheath. Heard a little click. Thought that was very odd. Then looking into the sheath I realized the rivet was not even in the welt and was rubbing the blade. So I made him a new one. You might be able to see the shiny spot inside the original sheath. Fraulein Report post Posted March 30, 2023 (edited) Wonderful work! I actually really like how you incorporated your makers mark on the front, might have to borrow that idea from time to time... I just learned about the problem with rivets on sheaths from all the knowledgeable people on here. I'll never understand how rivets became such a common practice after people discovered that issue. Glad I learned not to make that mistake again ~Frau~ Edited March 30, 2023 by Fraulein
doubleh Report post Posted March 30, 2023 No rivets in knife sheaths or pistol holsters for me. Nice work on the replacement.
DaveP Report post Posted April 1, 2023 Thanks for the kind words. Reference makers mark on the front. I've done this from the beginning on all my knife sheaths. All but the very first few. Different from everyone else's. Unique! The customers like it as well.
Brokenolmarine Report post Posted 8 hours ago I usually put my maker's mark on the back, but I have had friends and family tell me to incorporate it into the design on the front so they can use it as a talking point and start a conversation about their personal relationship with the maker.
