A friend of mine wants me to make southwestern style stamped belts for his son and his wife.  They live in AZ and it will be a surprise for them both.

What would be a standard width for a lady's belt?  1 1/4" or 1 1/2"

Men's is usually 1 1/2"

Although there is no 'standard' belt width for the ladies, I'd go for 1 1/4, or even 1 1/8

Lots of "western" women love and enjoy the 1 1/2 inch belt.

It allows the maker to stamp it with the same full size as used on the men's belts . . . the stamping and tooling really does look better . . . especially if there is any painting or antiquing.

Doesn't make any difference about the size . . . still got to remove the space used for stitches . . . and that seriously narrows the belt area left for stamping and tooling.

I would have to be directed by the lady to do anything less than the 1 1/2 and I'd seriously try to change her mind.

Almost all their jeans have belt loops that will accommodate the 1 1/2 . . . but it might be wise . . . just in case . . . to see if she does wear a line of britches that do have smaller loops.  THAT would be the final deciding factor.

May God bless,

Dwight

Consider that 1 1/4 will fit both smaller and larger belt loops.  1 1/2, not so much!

Any where from 1-1/2” down to 1” if I was going to put a 1-1/2” ona women I would taper to 1” buckle set.
