Christmas Gift

Recommended Posts

So I have a family Christmas get together in a few weeks. We are going to be playing a gift exchange game.

My understanding is that everyone is to bring 1 small wrapped gift, all the gifts will be put together. Then someone picks one to open, the next person can choose to either steal a previously opened gift or open a new one. If your gift is stolen you get to go again... Either stealing or open a new one. It continues in this fashion until everyone has a gift and all the gifts have been opened.

So in preperation of this I decided to make something. This what I came up with...

6/7 oz Herman Oak

2-tone English Bridal/Black dye

Wet formed to fit knife

Thank you all. I was a little skeptical of putting my makers mark in the center of the scroll. My idea was that it would look kinda like the scroll holding a coin. What are y'alls thoughts?

Looks great to me. I like how your makers mark almost blends in, yet pops. Looks real nice like.

I like it. It's a good idea to use your maker's stamp in a design. It shows that you're proud of your work and it lets others know who did it. That's what many makers did in the 1800's and it's still a good thing to do. Your stamp looks good in that scroll. If you wanted it to be less obvious you could not dye it a contrasting color but I like it the way it is. It becomes a focal point of a design with little room for much in the way of a design.

Oh, and that's a fine exchange gift. Thumbs-up!

Great job. I'm a big fan of practical projects. Someone's gonna love that.

That's a beautiful little sheath, and I love the way your mark is incorporated into the carving.  I keep saying that I need to get myself a makers mark, and after seeing how yours works I'm thinking I'll have to come up with a round design also.

You have an attractive maker's mark that adds to the style.  Good looking project.  I got excited thinking you had tooled bridle leather - I have a fair number of shoulder/belly scraps to use - but I guess English bridle is a color of dye.

I would HIGHLY recommend Tom at Steel Stamps Inc. He helped me refine my design to that which all my work now bears. And his team created the very stout stamp that makes that mark.

Practical projects are all I do... Mostly custom work. Sheaths, wallets, belts, and any other thing I can think of/design to meet a specific need in someones life.
