Pages are loading very slow this morning.  About a minute, versus the usual 1 or 2 seconds, or nearly instant.

Yes. That wasn't an issue yesterday before I thought I fixed it. I'm getting a lag too.

The migration has begun. We are going to a fancy new server to handle the traffic. All will be well in a few hours. If it gets too bad, I'll shut the board off.

Speed of loading pages is just about instant now.  Posted earlier this morning but it has gone missing.

Other posts have been lost in the transition too, as well as warnings to spammers.

We did lose a bit of content. The migration finished this morning and I changed the DNS servers. I realized we had half on the old server and half on the new so I force logged everyone out in order to call up the new server as people came back online. I'm looking at improved spam detection right now. I just had to get this other stuff squared away first.

At the bottom of the page you can toggle between themes. I will make changes as you ask for them, or make a third theme. The next board update in a month or two will allow the board to display in dark mode at night on a mobile. I could hack it now, but it's coming, and I have other things still on the list for now. Tell me what to change adjust or fix in "second choice" theme.

Hmmm. I can't get on the site with my laptop on my wifi but my phone accesses it just fine. I was not logged out, at least on the phone. 

I did all the usual reboot, flush cache, etc. No luck with the laptop. 

Any ideas? My plan now is to wait and see if it clears up overnight.

EDIT: If I turn my phone hotspot on and connect the laptop, I'm on leatherworker just fine. Must be something to do with the DNS change and me being in the wilderness.  I bet it clears up in time.

Yep. Exactly. We have a new IP address. Just for fun, type "leatherlady.net" in and see if that takes you to the forum directly.

On the house wifi, leatherlady.net times out. Reconnect to the phone hotspot and leatherleady forwards direct to leatherworker.

It'll be interesting to see how long the changes take to propagate to the hinterlands.

I noticed your email isn't bouncing anymore. Are you receiving it now? I think our old IP was on a spam list because of the bitcoin hacker. Now that we've changed IPs there are almost no bounces.

DNS should be resolved by noon tomorrow. That's what they promised, anyway! Hahaha

No, the inbox is empty. Maybe that'll resolve in time, too.

5PM Saturday and the DNS change still hasn't propagated to the frozen, far northeastern US. Having to use my phones hotspot.

That works on the wifi but throws a privacy error. No problem for me to use the hotspot. There could be a lot of people wondering why they can't connect.

I don't have an SSL on the server, just the sites. It's safe to bypass the warning. Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies?

Yeah, I did it all to be sure. It may be something with my provider, actually. I'm near the Canadian border but my wifi IP resolves to NYC. Usually it resolves to Portland, ME (still a long ways away).

 

EDIT: And now it's working. Just took a while to get to the boonies. Which is the way we like it ...

I been out a bit but back and I like the new look - @Johanna - I can appreciate the work you're doing (sys admin here) - maybe look into a free Cloudflare account for their wicked fast DNS propagation,  caching, speed and free ssl ? (usually free ) just a suggestion. Keep it up. This is by far the best site for leather on the net.
