Members scottishshoemaker Posted February 4, 2009 Members Report Posted February 4, 2009 After wearing "Docs" with my kilt for a while now, I thought it was time to make a sporran to go with them. Not one for Timberland/Cat boots. This has been brewing in my head for a while then I purchased a shed full of leather and half a skin of oxblood leather was amongst the lot. I put one boot in the picture just to let see you see the colour match. Quote
Members Wyvern Posted February 4, 2009 Members Report Posted February 4, 2009 Now that's pretty cool! Quote
Dags3777 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Great work, excellent match. Darryl Quote
Members Big Papa Leather Posted February 4, 2009 Members Report Posted February 4, 2009 The color match is great! Allen Quote
AndyL1 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) That is a perfect pairing for your Docs! Too cool. This is one of those "I wish I had thought of that" moments. I give you 20 Punker Points for the effort. :-) Edited February 5, 2009 by AndyL1 Quote
Members celticleather Posted February 5, 2009 Members Report Posted February 5, 2009 Excellent job! And unless I'm mistaken, those are a pair of original UK-made DMs. Quote
Members ryano Posted February 5, 2009 Members Report Posted February 5, 2009 Great job to say the very least! Quote
Members scottishshoemaker Posted February 6, 2009 Author Members Report Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks for the great comments and punker points, yup they are original docs, still available in the uk. Quote
electrathon Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Very good (great) match in styling. Also, pardon my ignorance: Is a sporran a man purse? If not, what is the purpose? Aaron Quote
Members Tina Posted February 6, 2009 Members Report Posted February 6, 2009 That's Awesome:-) I really like the combo you made here...Good work! Quote
Members resqman Posted February 6, 2009 Members Report Posted February 6, 2009 Very good (great) match in styling. Also, pardon my ignorance: Is a sporran a man purse? If not, what is the purpose? Aaron Sporrans are commonly worn with kilts. Kilts do not have pockets. They are typically worn centered in the front at waist level. There are both formal and everyday wear sporrans. Quote
Members tonyc1 Posted February 6, 2009 Members Report Posted February 6, 2009 While watching the Tattoo, I noticed the black and white hairy thing they wore just below waist level and I'd like to know if that is also a Sporran? And what would they carry in that? Tony. Quote
Members scottishshoemaker Posted February 7, 2009 Author Members Report Posted February 7, 2009 The balck n White hairy thing is a sporran, and yeh a man purse but I wouldnt say that to a scotsmans face. In my sporran I keep what most scots keep in their sporran. Wallet and hipflask(good malt). Quote
Members tonyc1 Posted February 7, 2009 Members Report Posted February 7, 2009 What sort of hair is it? Quote
Members scottishshoemaker Posted February 7, 2009 Author Members Report Posted February 7, 2009 It is usually horse hair, these are classed as military dress sporrans, military day sporrans are leather with regimental badge on front. Quote
Members Wyvern Posted February 7, 2009 Members Report Posted February 7, 2009 The sporrans you saw at the Tattoo were out of horsehair and were mostly for show. Not much use. The sporrans like Scottishshoemaker made are roomy and made to be used every day. A lot of guys are wearing kilts and sporrans on a daily basis now. Just go drop in on kiltsrock.com and brouse! Quote
Suze Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 they also keep your kilt "down in front" so you don't become a "floor show" (not that I don't like a good floor show once in awhile >giggle<) Quote
Members clairmullin Posted February 10, 2009 Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 That is cool! I want to go to Scotland so bad. Quote
