Members Harry Marinakis Posted October 12, 2016 Members Report Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) I don't like the standard round knife shape, so I made my own custom design. I experimented with several shapes and sizes, and made a few mock-ups, before settling on this design. Then I made this knife out of a saw blade. I didn't see a need for a second point on top, so I rounded it off. I worked the metal very slowly and cooled it often to avoid altering the hardness & temper of the original steel. Overall length is almost 6 inches. Blade is 3-3/4 inches top to bottom. Satin finish. My hand-sharpening skills leave a lot of be desired, so I've gotta work on it some more, but I did bleed a few times. - Circular ripsaw blade 0.07 inches thick - Cocobolo wood - Brass rod 3/16" - Epoxy - Tung Oil - Blood Edited October 12, 2016 by Harry Marinakis Quote

Members brmax Posted October 13, 2016 Members Report Posted October 13, 2016 Excellent work, cool design and the wood has some neat red to it. Floyd Quote
MADMAX22 Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Good work, saw blades can be hit and miss but if your lucky its something like 80crv2 I think it is which is a good steel. The only reason I like the opposite side is when its either a different shape one side for tight corners and one for long straight cuts or to have two sides to use before sharpening. The angle on your one side looks pretty useful for doing several types of cuts depending on how much you tip it up. Quote
RockyAussie Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Very useful looking shape knife here Harry and excellently finished of I think as well. Quote
Contributing Member 24VOLTS Posted October 13, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted October 13, 2016 Your knife looks great! How is the edge holding up? Quote
Boriqua Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 SHWEEEET! I play a good deal with wood as well as leather and that handle finish came out superb. So who does she cut leather? Quote
Members Harry Marinakis Posted October 13, 2016 Author Members Report Posted October 13, 2016 I made this knife primarily for cutting long straight lines, and it does that well. I've gotta get it sharper at the point in order to cut tight curves. Quote

Members neilyeag Posted October 25, 2016 Members Report Posted October 25, 2016 My father always used to say when he did woodworking that the project didn't count unless you got a little blood on it. Ha. Nice knife! Neil Quote
