What did they do at SLC?

Recommended Posts

At various times, I've been known to fail to provide a reference for SLC, even when specifically asked (I understand patience and "community", but I think they kept a couple people on board a bit longer than I would have).  But the other day, I did place a small order from them, and though it fair to state that went very well.

The gal on the phone was polite, knowledgeable, and helpful.  She verified my billing and shipping address and card on file to make sure everything was current.  My order was processed immediately, the package arrived quickly, correctly filled, and correctly billed.

This is how it SHOULD go.  Whatever they did down there, they absolutely should continue.

I like SLC. What little experience I have had buying from them was great. And I would like to add, it was their videos that got me interested in dealing with them. Kevin is so entertaining, I had to throw some money their way.

Like mutt, I have not had issues with them on any of my small qty of orders. When they offer them, their Hippo and Elephant are top notch and cheaper the the other sellers.

I live about 60 miles west of them and I visited them for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it was an amazing experience! Not only was the staff knowledgeable but very willing to go out of their way to help me, a new person to leathercraft.

I told them that I was interested in a new Heavy duty leather sewing machine but had no idea what to look for! They probably spent an hour with me showing me all of the features and accessories and what level of machine I may need. I was very impressed and spent a couple of hundred dollars stocking up on some supplies I needed.

I had mentioned that I was a retired Air Force NCO and was surprised that they automatically gave me their BEST discount on all purchases, then and in the future:)

Tandy is just a few miles away and they are great people too and I also get their Military discount.

GOD bless our Men and Women in uniform and thank you for your service!

Sam:)

Call it dumb luck or maybe they've got their act together and understand that bad CS comes back to bite you...but...I've had nothing but excellent customer service from ALL of the retail vendors/middle-men that I've dealt with...SLC, ZW, S-T Leather, FrogJelly, HideHouse, Leather Unlimited, SewWhatSupplies, Goldstar Tools...you name it...ZERO issues worthy of serious complaint or tantrum. What little problems I've experience have been handled in a timely manner. In specific reference to JLS's posting, I've had NO problems with my orders from Springfield...all shipments from them have been 100% correct with quality goods sent every time.

I have placed two orders for leather from SLC and have been very happy with quality, price and service!  They have good deals on lining leathers.

I must be missing something here.  Their prices seem way higher than most other leather suppliers on the interwebs.  Is there a commercial site that has lower prices?

I have bought lining leather from SLC only when it is on sale.  I also buy from Wickett & Craig when I need thicker vegtan.  You have to check what’s on sale at the various suppliers.

I gave them my tax ID number and they changed my account to now when I log in, I get a wholesale discount, or something similar.  Tandy’s law enforcement discount is helpful, too, but I prefer SLCs veg tan.  My only gripe is their lack of line snap assortment.

What exactly are you looking for in our line assortment "line"? We are trying to up our hardware line and offer more options.

I'm sure those that have come in for a tour can tell you, we have a lot going on here and are always welcome to give a tour. Maybe we should do a Facebook live tour some time.

I am a 'hands on' type of consumer: I want to see stuff in 3D, feel the texture, compare like products and ask questions to a REAL person!

I rarely buy Leathercraft stuff at Amazon, although sometimes we buy maybe 50 thousand a month on various Computer and IT components and products. I have bought dyes and some crafting tools from them but I like to actually see what I may buy.

LEATHER is something I will never buy online! Even in a retail store, we all know that QUALITY can really vary even in the same stack of hides.

As far as prices go, you get what you pay for.

If we continue to use online shopping then it's only a matter of time before 'Brick and Mortar,' storefront businesses disappear.

I prefer to buy it online.  I'm not going to St. Louis, or Curwensville, or anywhere else just to pick up cowhide.  Maybe if I was buying 1000 feet at a time, I might make the trip.  But if you are knowledgeable about leather, and I describe what I want -- then either you can provide that service or you can't.

I talked with Rusty at some length one day, seems like a decent fella.  I don't buy all that "you get what you pay for" stuff [ blog post ], but I got nuthin' "bad" to say about Rusty.
