Members VYO Posted January 11, 2019 Members Report Posted January 11, 2019 This wallet has no special tooling or design work, is simple, but the leather is fabulous. The exterior wallet is made from 5 oz Badalassi Carlo Pueblo (Italian) in violet and 2.5 oz Alran Chevre Chagrin Sully (French). Both leathers feel luxurious and are easy to work with including cutting, edge skiving and burnishing. Quote

bikermutt07 Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 Isn't it nice to burnish good leather? Your stitching is coming along nicely. Really even lines on the stitch allowance. Very nice. Quote

Members dfrensdorff Posted January 12, 2019 Members Report Posted January 12, 2019 Very, very nice ..... you may say simple, but I know for a fact, much more than simple! I’ve used those leathers and they are a joy to work with .... Quote
Members VYO Posted January 12, 2019 Author Members Report Posted January 12, 2019 @dfrensdorff thank you! Quote
Members Rbarleatherworks Posted January 12, 2019 Members Report Posted January 12, 2019 Beautiful work YVO, curious as to where to buy that leather from ? Or are you going to keep it a secret Quote
Members Tugadude Posted January 12, 2019 Members Report Posted January 12, 2019 Very nice, but it seems to me the holes are a bit big in relation to the thread. If using an awl, maybe size down to a narrower blade. The slits should nearly disappear after stitching and tapping with a smooth-faced hammer. Love the colors. Quote

I used KS Blade pricking irons. I used .6 thread and I probably should have used .8 or maybe even size 1 although I have a suspicion #1 would have been to thick. And you caught me - I did not roll or hammer the stitching when I finished. Quote

Looking at the backside of your stitching, I don't think your thread is too thin. Possible one leather has a different temper than the other, and results in the tension showing differently on each side. Front side looks fine, maybe less tension on the front would help keep the holes from appearing oversized. YinTx Quote
Members VYO Posted January 13, 2019 Author Members Report Posted January 13, 2019 @YinTx Thanks! I have another in the works using the same materials with a different internal configuration so I'll lighten up on pulling the thread through the top side and see if that helps with the holes. Quote
