I actually thought they were needle cushions because I've seen something similar, though not so proficiently made, used to store needles but it was just a lump of wadding inside and not very heavy. You've got me thinking now. I'll have to check what offcuts of wood I have that I can route a former out of to try that. Thank you for the inspiration.
