  2. is that curly maple?

  4. May I ask, why you stretch some hides with string, and some with lumber? Welcome! Welcome!
  5. would really be cool to wrap in leather were you could see both sides , like a key fob maybe, but I don't know how to do that. I have a coin I'd like to-do that with but really , don't know a good way to do it so both sides show unincumbered. any help would be appreciated
  6. Looks like you will fit in just fine. Welcome!
  7. cool!! How would you handle that corner? notch it?
  8. I think it's the kind of frivolity that immature people might buy on a whim, but never seriously want or use. In unrelated news, my younger brother wants one. So I guess I might as well order a bunch.
  9. I'm interested in buying this. I live in Charleston, so i can come pick it up. Please call me @8434801914; i just want to ask you a couple questions. Thx!
  10. Don't mess about with it Chuck. Some double sided tape and a double fold is all you need.
  11. Thanks, I'll sure test it out, and it may work just fine, and if not on this, another project. I bought a side of utility-grade chrome tan from Tandy to see what it was like. BTW did you know a 17+ year old cow, according to the tag, is only about 30" wide in the middle lol. Just a note to those who order online, you get what the folks who go in person don't buy!! In this case about 10" or more was taken right down the back, then probably returned, as there was also some pen lines down the edge and on the rump area someone had something partially laid out with pen marks. I won't bother sending it back. I knew there would be problems you don't get in person, but it was cheap and just something to try out.
  12. @chuck123wapati all foreign territory to me reading those posts, but sounds expensive, but I have to remember how incredibly cold it gets over there I have a solar hot water system on the roof. Nothing technical, just a booster switch for the winter months, but the water in our town can be quite salty and high in calcium, so the brass fittings pressure valves etc and element , and the tank corrode resulting in periodic ex$y replacements. Our local plumber gets plenty of work 😆 Needless to say i never drink the tap water unless it's boiled, and bottled water is very popular. Keep warm HS
  13. I've had good luck burnishing with hide glue/bone glue and beeswax for firmer chrome tanned leather, such as the SB Foot "oil tanned" sides that Beiler's sells. The hide glue is water soluble so I seal the edge with wax after burnishing. I apply the beeswax with heat to improve penetration. Maybe the plain edge isn't the look you're after?
  14. I have an idea for a project. It is a copy of a canvas military bag done in thin chrome tan 4 oz. I haven't done much like this, so I need some advice on how to finish leather edges. Here is pic of the bag edge. I don't need it to look exact, but just a finished outer edge that looks good on both sides. I've done edges in cloth, and figure I can skive down and roll the edge like cloth, but an easier, more correct, or diferent way would be great to know. Pics would be helpful to me as well as future folks. Any edges and processes are welcome!! Thank you for reading and for any info you would share.
  15. I hope you are doing well and he gets you fixed up. Yeah, there are things in the world that don't need electronics or computer programming to work or to be safe. Hot water heaters and furnaces are at the top of the list IMO. I've worked on everything from home boiler systems in residential to 750 hp coal-fired boilers heating a complete penitentiary. I've been trained inside out and upside down on carbon monoxide safety, and there are ways to do the job just as safely without the complicated BS.. OH and yeah Those old round thermostats you just turn to the temp you want is all anyone ever wanted. Why all the extra programming crap when everyone in the world knows no one uses it because it's a PITA? oh dont get me started lol...
  16. The double sided tape may also be known as ' basting tape'. Cheap as from a local discount shop, i usually grab half doz rolls in different widths. I use it for doing hems and seams on thin leathers etc where pins can't be used, and where c/a can be a bit messy, handy stuff HS
  17. I checked some images on google and the model number would be next to the 211 on the front but yeah, not enough detail in the photo to see. Can you contact the seller for more information? It looks to be a later model 211 and as long as it's working should be a nice machine - depending on the price, of course.
  18. I guess that's the one Looks kind of normal screw, you can always but another one. It's the big rocker that is holding the needle bar, this screw is used just to tighten it. The only problem with is a screw could be un-tightening during the use, that you can probably solve with Loctite. I would be careful not to damage the thread inside the rocker. That is for sure much more expensive to change.
  19. Dikman, this is the machine I was referring to. I am unable to see any further qualifiers past the 211 and wanted to see if someone might have come accross something similar and could share some insight. I appreciate you responding to my posting and if look forward to any further response after seeing the picture. Thanks, Mario

    Coin wrap

you never know Ppl are fickle and they might buy them for the novelty
  21. Thank you !!

  23. As I said, I doubt these will sell. Still likely to purchase a few more with my next temu order. The rivet looks like a more tidy choice, Seems the fewer stitches there are in a line, the less forgiving it is, aesthetically. If that makes any sense. Oh, and now I may just want to make a key-chain coin purse for Sweetheart. She doesn't like the 'app' used for parking downtown, and neither do I.
  24. I hope you are proud to have earned the skills to allow you to build in such an innovative way! She is lucky to have you. It's often more difficult than it should be, to work with anything near the medical equipment world.
  25. That is the coolest thing I have ever seen or heard!! You are an exceptional person and a brilliant thinker.
  26. The numbers are just numbers to use as a reference, you'll probably have to make up a sample with different stitch lengths and write the corresponding number next to them. I've had to do that before.
  27. Mario, we'll need more information as 211 by itself doesn't mean a lot. There will be many model numbers after the 211 which will indicate exactly what they're for and where they were made. The 211 series of machines are good machines - but that's all that can be said without more info/photos.
