I'm just remembering that Tandy used to sell a plastic sort-of sheet that could be formed with the heat of a hair dryer. Some ppl used to make holster shapes out of it and use it as a stiffener in the holster I got conned into buying a sheet of it in 2017. I wonder where its at? Somebody more intelligent than me might remember what its called edit; Kydex? or something, maybe

This is my portable bbq cooker. Its supposed to be a copy of a real medieval camp stove - yeah, right. I saw a similar one in Anne Hathaway's* cottage about 7 years ago. I thought it was real but it turned out to be one of these repros The box is about a foot cube and stands on four legs. Below the box is the ash pan. It can be placed on picnic benches whilst cooking and it won't harm the table. It has a big loop handle so it can be carried with charcoal burning in it. It's a good and efficient burner but a devil to clean out the ashes. I used to make the lunches on it for my medieval team. It used to get lots of attention. Now I just get it out occasionally to cook me a burger or two I think I might take to a company and get it grit blasted to clean off that rust before it gets too bad * Will Shakespeare's wife

All in all a good job . . . but as another pastor besides Bob . . . as he said I would slick the edges real good . . . PLUS . . . I always run an edger around the leather . . . knock off those little peek-a-boos that slip up just above the edge . . . make it look like a torn piece of paper. But I do like the design . . . you did a good job. Especially the designs on the flap and the back . . . I'd never attempt it because I would get almost done . . . and I'd have a double line I could not cover up. That is also why I don't do a lot of stamping . . . etc. May God bless, Dwight

It's designed for both shot and powder. I think I'll end up using a plastic sheet similar to the thickness of a milk jug. I can manipulate that into the right shape funnel which means no pattern adjustments. It's already a difficult build, so I'm gonna try and keep any modifications easy. I'm lost when it comes to black powder and the accessories, but it works and he loves it enough that he wants to get one made for his son (eventually). The prices of materials have jumped significantly more than either of us expected. He's gotta get funds together. In the meantime I'll be making the final of five identical holsters. The whole family is full of collectors and his dad gifted them all colt woodsman 22 pistols.

You're not wrong. One side holds powder and the other holds shot. He's an upland hunter and this works well for the shotgun I guess. I know little about black powder. When I made the first one, I did a lot of research along with digging through my stacks of patterns. I dunno where I got it, but i found a single shot snake pattern in my collection and went from there. He really loves it. Now he wants to get one made for his son, when the funds come in. I started above about the sticker shock we both got haha

I'm going to be the odd man out here and say most likely it is not compounded NF oil. The oils most are compounded with will not solidify as easily as what is recognized as pure NF oil today. I can't speak for other countries but here is the thumbnail sketch of NF oil as I understand it in the US. Traditionally yes - the recognized standard pure NF oil was made by boiling leg bones of cattle. During one of the world wars ( I am thinking it was WW2) the military need for neetsfoot oil out stripped the supplies. The military standards were relaxed to allow any animal based oils that fit similar characteristics of NF oil. I don't have exact details but pressed hog lard was one of them and available. Since there were few consumer standards but a military standard, depending on manufacturer other animal oils besides cattle make up some percentage of pure NF oils since then. I would suspect that some name suppliers have a standard and source and some of the lower end suppliers use price-point sources with less standards. I have used several and some did consistently smell different than others, all solidified at some temperature but melted easily with a little heat.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I've figured out what I'm going to do now. A plastic sheeting will probably work best. I can make it the right shape without having to make any adjustments to the pattern. For now though, the order has been postponed. I can't blame him. Those shot chargers are 110 bucks a piece now. When I made his first one in the picture they were only 70 bucks a piece so he got a little sticker shocked. I did too lol He's getting a holster for his colt woodsman first. This will be the final of 5 identical holsters. His dad and brothers all have the same model colts.

Thank you. It threw the centering off a little, but not a bad as I expected it to. The customer was made aware of this, and he didn't seem to mind much. Some people are easy going and don't let the small thing bother them. He's that type of person.

Had a customer send me this photo of the holster and double mag pouch i built him. His dept. hosts a rodeo every year and they are alowed to use personal gear, so he wanted something that stood out. Im glad he chose mahogany... I think it pops.

Check whether there is a separate spring attached to the reverse lever for holding it up. Perhaps it disconnected when the thumb screw was removed.

From what little I understand, I have braided exactly one hat band. it's a chapter on braiding two different braids or knots together in different ways. i think you need a pretty good idea of how to braid each separate knot before you can understand the diagrams or how they would fit together. If I wanted to finger it out, I would start with the easiest one, maybe joining two turks heads as i did a turks head for my hat band.

Good looking seat. Still trying to work out how you constructed that shape. Like the valve stem caps too, and the fork reminds me of my brother's Lemon Peeler from the 1960s.

That is a cool design. I really like it. Stitching looks clean all the way around. That brand is pretty cool too. The only thing i would add would be to slick the edges, even those on the mystery braid. Well done.

Dear all, thank you for your answers. I ended up ordering a shorter V belt (97,5 cm) from optibelt. So no extra block to lower the servo. This was enough. It works a treat now!

Hi All, When I was doing leatherwork 8 or 9 years ago I was ordering my thonging lace from AmazingOz because it was top quality and they provided a great service to me when I lived in the UK. Their website is no longer up. Does anyone know if they closed down, or just changed name? I'd be interested to know if there are other good alternatives of quality Kangaroo lace that I could buy from Germany. Thanks. Paul

I would like to sew veg tan 5-6 oz to a hair on hide cowhide to create a stool top. I have researched several machines and looked for machines with a walking foot. Today, someone suggested getting a Singer model 66 or 99 to do the job. They said these models would have no problem sewing this., even without the walking foot, and that I would save a lot of money. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I decided to make myself a Bible cover this week. I don’t sell, so I just buy the cheap tandy economy sides. Maybe one day I’ll spring for some herman oak or something. I kinda like the rustic character though, it makes the items easier to use. If anybody’s seen the brand before, that would be cool. ~5 oz veg tan -roughly 11”x8”x3” “storage space” -saddle stitch with pricking iron and 1mm thread (~5 sti) -finished with Neatsfoot oil and mink oil compound -5 thong mystery braid as described in “braiding leather” by Bruce Grant. Roughly 8oz veg tan -larger for most bibles, but it fits my study material (nkjv scoffield bible, cheap composition notebook, cheap faux leather notebook, and various office supplies) -if you squint your eyes and tilt your head to the left, the snaps and bottom of the brand makes it look like one of those cat characters from Japan.
