  1. But its not from cash! The wife has all of that!
  2. I agree! Jim is a great guy and has helped me out a couple of times. Everyone can laen a lot from him. Thank you Jim
  3. Very cool Troy, lookin forward to seeing the finished product.
  4. I had a bad day yesterday. It started out good. I was just getting close to finishing a project and was edge dyeing with some black dye on a dauber. Well the phone rang and I set the dauber down, hanging over the edge of my box of parafin on the bench and answered the phone. Had a couple of bees buzzin around close by and so I grabbed the swatter and got one right off. The other one I gave quite the headache and landed on the bench so I went for round 2. Some how I managed to clip the dauber and it sprayed everywhere and on everything. Its on the floor, bench, tools, wall, 3 projects in the works, me, basically anything that was in about a 4 foot radius of my bench now has specks of black dye on it. One of the projects I'm mad about, cuz it has a bunch of small lettering on it and takes me awhile to carve. One of them was for a gusset for the purse I'm working on, so other than not being able to use that piece and have to cut out another one, I'm not to heart broke there and the project I was edge dyeing got a few specks on it but I finished it anyway. It was for me but my wife stole it. So anybody else ever have a bad day in their shop? Do tell, I like a good story.
  5. Hi David, If you are going to just make a simple pair and not back it with anything then 8/9 will be heavy enough. When I first started I made a pair for my wife and she wears them almost daily and has held up well. If you are wanting to make a higher end pair then I would probably use 6/7 backed with some 4/5 or just 4/5 doubled. Hope this helps. Will
  6. I like them too. That is a great store. Seems like everytime I make it down to Portland I find an excuse to stop in. And the old building they are in just adds to it for me. The only thing I don't like is trying to get downtown to them. Will
  7. Wow! That background color is awesome and the tooling looks good too. I really like it. Nice job! Will
  8. Hi David, Looks good. Hard to see what your patern looks like under the black but I know its hard to get anything to show good in black. I also like the way you used a natural color on the back. I think it gives it a good contrast. What is the specs on it ie. Leather weight ect? Keep up year good work Will
  9. Hi storm, Yes they do love them and that is payment enough for me. They are showing them off to everyone. Now if everyone would just place an order I'd be doin even better! Lol. All in do time I guess. Thank you for your kind words. Will
  10. Nice job Mark. I like the design and the tooling. Reminds me of a holster.
  11. Wow Steve, That is some really beautiful work. I just hope I can turn out work that nice one day.
  12. Hi Tim, Thanks for your kind words. I have no idea what its called to be honest with ya. I just tried to copy the weave on the belt I was wearing at that moment. It goes up three and back two if that makes sense. No tucking under anything (which is nice). To me it seems a little thick. I am going to play around in the shop one of these days and see if I can do it differently to get the same look and not be so thick. That was like my second time doing any lacing. Having only done the 3 ring binder a year ago. I still have a lot to learn about it yet and it seems to take forever to do one. I think I have about 13 hours in just on the lacing for that belt. Does that sound about right or am I just really slow? I like the look of it also. But if that's how long it takes I don't know how I could turn a profit on them. Do you have any suggestions on how to speed up the process? Thanks again Will
  13. I just finished up 3 belts for my wife, daughter and myself. (really! I finally get one of my own?) They are all 6/7 backed with 4/5 one is laced and the other 2 are hand stitched. 2 are a light oil finish with tan kote top finish and the 3rd is EF all in one acorn brown with a mahogony background, that one is my first attempt at the sheridan style (my belt, hehe). As always your input on the good and bad and everything else is welcome. so please let me know what you think.
  14. The the few I've done I used Chicago screws on the flap to the strap. Hope that helps.
  15. Hey Josh, I got mine from Tandy. They seem to be holdin up pretty good. Been over a year since I put them on. If memory serves the price was decent too. Hope this helps. Will
  16. Another proicy you could use is Dr Jacksons hide rejuvenator. I'm currently restoring a pair of m/c saddle bags that are very dry and that was recommended to me. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I hear it works good. Hope this helps and lookin forward to seeing some pics of it when you get it done. How about some before and afters?
  17. That is very nice Josh. your carving looks very sharp and the carved buckle is a nice touch. Your thread title is too modest. It should say something like "prepare to get you mind blown". lol
  18. Wow Bob those look great. Your tooling work is just phenominal. Thanks for sharing. Your work gives us a benchmark to strive for
  19. I made this for my wife last year for her pics and paperwork of the horses that go through our ranch
  20. I made these a few months back. 100% hand stiched. (I really need to buy a machine) Hope yall like and your feedback is welcome.
  21. Thanks Jim, I was finally able to download. Great info. I appreciate it.
  22. Now that is some nice work! And the detail put into it. Like it was said above "truely inspirational"
  23. I haven't seen the bags yet but from talking with him I would assume they are. So fiebings black will work then. Any ideas on sealing and waterproofing? I was thinking that tent waterproofing stuff. Any better suggestions?
