  1. Oh ok. I thought one like that was 3 pieces good to know didn't know that. Can't remember but I do think I have that book around here somewhere. But would be happy with any tips anyone who has made one can give. Always better to hear from people who have made one. Tips, things to avoid etc. I am making it for my scoped Mauser rifle. John
  2. I plan on making a rifle case and had a couple questions. What would be the perfect thickness of leather to use? Second would it be better to make it one piece or 3 pieces. I was thinking 3 piece. That way I wouldn't need a half hide to get the length. Any and all suggestions welcome. Also handle ideas needed. Please let me know. Thank you John
  3. I didn't have to do that with mine but I just bought another one and will see how it works in that one. The one I have is a few years old. They could have changed the tip area a little. I know the one made for large calibers is what you want. I will check this new one out and post what I find. But my first one works great. I'll let you know. John
  4. I didn't have to with mine. Some I had to push down but after that no problems at all. I have about 50+ tools in the smaller one right now. If you look into the holes you will see little nobbies at the bottom all the way around the hole. That is to protect the tip of your bullets from being damaged. I did have a couple that were tight. But after pushing the tool down it never happened again. Works great. Do you have the same brand as the one showed? John
  5. I think they fit great. Now a seeder is small you can put 2 in one hole. But other then that works perfect. I had a 50 round and filled it so I bought a 100 round box to have more room. Getting new tools all the time. The great thing is the box's are cheap but good quality. I thought I would share my find. John
  6. I had a rifle ammo box I wasn't useing and thought I wonder if my tools would fit in there. Sure enough fit perfect. It was a smaller one to hold 50 rounds in. So I bought a 100 round one. Works perfect. Tools fit in holes made for the bullets perfect. I wouls suggest getting the one for large caliber rounds. Another great thing is they are stackable. Big or small ones. I hope this is ok. Here is a link to one that auction ended to give you a better idea of what I am talking about. It's called. MTM Case Gard™ R-100-10 GREEN Rifle Cartridge Deluxe w/Handle Ammo Case http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTM-Case-gard-Deluxe-R-100-SERIES-Rifle-Ammo-Box-R-100-10-MAG-Green-/251320358392?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a83dc55f8 John
  7. It seems no one can or will help with this question. Sorry to have asked. Thank you to those who did reply. Seems to be the new norm on this forum lately. I guess the real question is why have the forum at all. john
  8. Seems like someone here would have made this with the gusset before. No one feel like sharing how the gusset goes in?? John
  9. I have made wood grain by useing a hair tool. Worked great for the grain. Hope that helps. John
  10. Thank you for the help. This program can do alot of diffrant things. Glad you mentioned it. I have an old pattern that needs cleaned up and resized. So thank you for mentioning it. John
  11. Chavez. I downloaded inkscape to resize a pattern. And I can't find where you "run bitmap into path" I found make a bitmap copy. But that is it. Could you tell me how you do this? John
  12. Does anybody have this pattern? I "really" need help with attaching the gusset please. Thank you. John
  13. TXAG wish I could have helped you on this but I never even seen one these before. Looks like it would be a fun project. If you do end up selling a pattern for the leather one I would be very interested in buying one. I wonder what type of plastic would be used in making one? Well anyway thank you for sharing the idea very interesting. John
  14. Looking at this some more and realize I am not sure how this gusset goes in at all. This pattern came in a gun belt holster pattern pack. It is very common. I thought someone here may be able to shed some lite on this gusset issue. Now I am more confused on how it gets sewed in. If anyone hasit or has done it before can help it would be greatly appreciated. john
  15. Hi Aaron thanks that part I got. If you know the pattern I have. The bigger end of the caddy has a slit in the middle the size of the zipper. The gusset end is round whith the zipper slit in the center with a 1/2 inch at each end of the gusset. Now I kmow the gusset gets sewed to the edge of the back and front all the way around. But when it comes to the bigger end. There is the slit. inthe middle at the. So if the gusset is sewed to the edge all the way aound. How do you sew the end where the slit is? If someone had the pattern they could see what I mean and may know how to sew that end of the gusset. John
  16. M1 ammunition bag seems easy to make. Would load a picture but don't know how. I don't know of any patterns out there. But you could get one and tear it apart to make a pattern. john.
  17. Well I have some sheepskin fur to use on the inside but having some trouble figuring out how the Gusset goes in at one end.. It has a cut out at one end that seems to be the size of the zipper but the gusset is alot bigger. So if anyone has done this caddy before or has the pattern to look at can you tell me know how this attaches at the end I mentioned? It would be a great help. I really hate how these patterns are so vague in the instructions. Thank you. John.
  18. Colt w Night. Thank you for sharring. That looks great. Would like to use shearling but would have to buy a whole hide to get a piece big enough. That would be perfect for the padding looks like at least 7/8 thick very nice. I would need a piece 14x14 to fit. But would more then likely need a whole hide to get that piece. Can't buy that right now but would be nice.Still not sure about the zipper thing. John
  19. I have never messed with a zipper before. So I would remove the stops and tuck the ends under the leather gusset and sew them ends down? Another thing does it matter if it is an open end zipper or a closed end zipper? It seems like an easy thing to put together but a few things are unclear to me. 1. Size of zipper to use 2.where do you sew the linning in at? under the zipper? at the edge of the zipper? John
  20. Also what to line it with to give it padding? John
  21. Thank you for the reply. The gusset pattern that goes to it is 24 in long with a 23 in slit for the zipper. Do they sell 23 in zippers? I have never messed with a zipper before this would be a first. I have black zipper with 2 pulls on it that's 24 plus inches long. But brass would be the best? I would like to hear from someone who may have made one of these to see what they used for it if possable. The pattern came in a pattern pack for holsters. If anyone can help me with this it would be a great help to me. I am stuck at this point and not sure how to procede from here. John
  22. I have the Tandy Pistol Caddy pattern and have a question for anyone who may have built one. The instructions call for a 24 inch gusset. There is a pattern for the gusset but doesn't say proper size of zipper to use. So wanted to know what is the correct size and type of zipper to use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. John
  23. Holster looks great! How did you make the templetes? Were they hard to make? Anyway came out looking great. I made the same one recently but did not do the U.S. I carved falling oak leaves on mine. Thanks for sharing. John
  24. Thank's for the reply. All hand sewing here. I would like to make it inclosed so the thread is in the box or bag. I was thinking about making it to go onthe wall and when I need some just walk up pull out what I need and cut it off. I was thinking about a 3/4 piece of pine with 3 wood posts spaced out just right. Width will depend on width of a full spool of thred times 3. Then maybe a leather outside to it. Place a grommet for the thread to come out in the middle front for middle spool and one on each side for the other spools. With opening on top to replace spools. A wall hanger would be nice. John
