  1. Beautiful work. How is it constructed?
  2. Raleigh here. Welcome to the board.
  3. Some really carppy work. (You may now resume your praise. I just felt the need to make a pun.)
  4. Has anyone done one? A friend of my wife's has asked me to do it. I saw on the Amazon site that they sell one. It seems to have some kind of lock in it. How would you keep the Kindle from falling out of a traditional book cover type thing?
  5. Where do you get the latches you've used on those? I like them.
  6. That is a beautiful thing. I'd like to see more pictures.
  7. This stuff from Tandy: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/search/searchresults/9064-01.aspx?feature=Product_7&kw=padding
  8. I have a half pattern. Traced it on tracing film. Scanned the pattern. Flipped it in P-Shop. It's smaller than the original. So, do I just flip the tracing film? I thought I wasn't supposed to put the pencilled side on the leather. What do I do?
  9. Use A118 or A888 in areas large enough to use those tools. Walk the tool and don't strike it extra hard. If you use a number of mallets, use a lighter one instead of a heavier one.
  10. I may not be right about the $20. My Tandy manager gave me a couple of straps that he was going to put in the "severely discounted" bin because they had a couple of thin spots. I had a bag or two of copper rivets. Also had a big box of snaps that I got somewhere really cheap. (I think I paid about $25 for a big box of about 80-90 snaps). I bought a bag of rings and I bought some strap material. So say that I spent less than $20.
  11. The lady who runs (read: does most of the real work) for the cocker spaniel rescue that we have adopted three cockers from mentioned recently that she needed leashes and a couple of lead splitters. A few straps, snaps, rivets (copper) and rings later, I have enough leashes and lead splitters put together for her to walk a dozen dogs, if she wants to try that many. And I think my cost to do the whole lot was no more than $20. I feel pretty good about that.
  12. The aluminum one is on a closeout sale at Tandy right now. I bought mine for $22 (Wholesale club) and it works like a charm.
  13. Thanks to all who offered thoughts and advice on this topic. I finished the project this weekend. I had sewn the bag inside out and it was hard enough to turn inside out and get right. So I looked at the strap material again and decicded that sheathmaker had to be right about it. I cut the stap down from almost 5" to 2 1/4" and lined it with some pigskin. Did some decorative stitching in some areas and hung it on the bag. Thanks again for your help.
  14. Those are really nice. Did you make that knife, too? I've been looking for a knife made along those lines.
  15. Left click on the picture to load it. Right click on the picture after it loads and choos "Save Picture As"
  16. I've braided a bunch of string, not so much leather. I use hemostats to hold the strands, and they work great. Buy cheap, Made in Pakistan, stainless hemostats on ebay.
  17. Is this, http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=18399 what you're looking for?
  18. My spaniel is known as "The Weekend Tandy Dog." He either lies on the floor beside me, or naps under the bench. People come into the store and speak to him. And, of course, he's usually willing to take a treat. He's a good dog.
  19. for his free online lessons at Painting Cow. I have downloaded, printed and read all of them, and they are some terrific, valuable work.
