look realy nice, what tickness of leather did you used?
-
As for shape I've seen feather shape, leaf shape, square, rectangular , etc The most popular i've seen is square on one side and round on the other. On one armor I've always seen the same size being used. Witch market do you aim for for LARP the fancier the shape, the better for re-enactement the article "linked " by RuehlLeatherWorks seem logical.

Fancy Gypsy Hip Belt
yan replied to GypsyWind's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
look cool, is it unconfortable sitting in a chair (I mean the bulkiest pieces being in the back)? -
for those with bifocal lense. there is a ''new'' type of progressive they call ''computer lense'' they are made for medium (about 18'' to 2 ') and reading distance (about 12'').

Another project by wifes request
yan replied to Windom Leather's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
I do not ride horse but I do a lot of hiking, a version that hook on a belt would be more usefull to me If I see something similair in a expo, I'll probably think: ''Now, thats a good idea it look like a strait forward project'' But with nice tooling, I might decide to buy insted of trying. -
that would look awsome.
-
the knife idea look great, but personnally I would not wear knife directly over the lungs, a solide mace hit that would barly miss the shoulder on ax 2 or 4 (for old school fencer) could push knife at a good angle for a pneumothorax perforation.
-
tanks, I'll just find some rag vellum locally and should be ready to start trying stuff in a couple of days.
-
breast plate look neat, how did you do the "shiny horn/claw" near the shoulder? What was the tickness of the helmet? Did you mold it?
-
yes, I want to try tooling but the drawing part is a problem for me. for the general shape I use cardbox, cut and recut till I have the shape I want

it is a link to get a dvd? what is on it?

a couple off days ago a body of mine (who sadly is a veggan) put a link on face book with the name:''how to win a argument with a meat-eater''. I followed the link (just to laugh a little bit) and was badly surprise. The site I arrived to was a well documented studies of the effect of meat on both the environnement and the body. All the source where serius and most of the argument make sense. Now, I have a major in biology and a minor in chemistry wich allow me to contradict nearly all of the element presented, and present a few that where''forgotten''. I dont mind someone who decide not to eat meat for philosophical reason (or to score with chick like my boddy) but when they start trying to tell me that human are not made to eat meat and they present pseudo-science to prouve it...

to the other ''artisticly challenge'' : anyone got a easy trick to transfert pattern on leather? I can't draw (I could'nt a strait line if my life depended on it) so I would like to use computer to make my pattern.
-
you use bracer under you shield? do you wear a gambison under the armor? I usually go :gambison, chaine or metal scale, cloth (tabar) then leather my shields have all leather stapping and I used a bouble thickness gambison on that arm.

Everything I used to do was pure function. Need something to hold my hammer: grab a piece of leather drill a couple of hole, put a couple of rivets and there you go: a ugly but functional ''hammer holder'' One of the raison I am on this forum is to removed the ''ugly'' part of the last statement and eventually put a ''nice'' instead

It might sound dumb but: I read on different post that a ''spoon'' should be use to remove beveller mark. is it a kitchen spoon or a special tool that I have'nt see yet?

Coffee cup wrap
yan replied to wildrose's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
is it ''foldable''? or is the leather to tick for that? ever try to put a handle on it (like on a real cup)? -
One of the best top hat I ever seen. With a worn english cloak XVII century and mean looking cane you'll be the main attraction at a convention.
-
tank you, sorry for my lack of vocabulary, my english is not yet perfect...

I've always be a fan of home made pattern, using cardboard, cuting and recuting until the piece look kind what I want. But I might need some help with ''linking'' the flat part with the ''raised'' part. Do you raise little sqare left from the base? do you use thin leather stich to both part?

Great looking mask, did you find a ways to make a full face mask, in one piece?

metallic black color
yan replied to troy's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
When you do black metal armor you usually try to get make it look as ''leathery'' looking as you can. no reflection, as little shine as you can. But I am doing the same procces right now (black leather shiny armor). I am experimenting with a high gloss varnish design for canvas painting. so far, the gloss is impressive and I am testing the water resistance this week-end. I'll put picture of the finish piece probably sundays.
