Junker & Ruh Nr. 22 / Sd28 Adjustment!
Oakley replied to Michael Meijer's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I've got two of these machines which I restored completely. Here you can see the stitching with a very thick thread. (If somebody is interested this machine is for sale, in Germany) -
Singer 111W151, Leather, Adjustments, Needles & Questions
Oakley replied to GaryNunn's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
If your needle is too short it's the wrong system/ type for your machine. The length should always stay the same just the form of the tip is different if you buy leather needles (LR). Probably you find which system you need in the manual? @3 Are you sure that you threaded the bobbin correctly? There should be a spring which puts preasure on the thread the thread always goes below the spring. If you're thread goes under the spring and is still to weak you have to tighten the screw which holdes the spring. The other option is that your upper thread tension is way to high, that would cause the same problem. @4 If you have the original manual that's probably the best you can get. The manual should explaine all tricks and adjustments. Another idea would be Youtube here you can find lots of videos, also for that type of machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71DPLtqpRds. Which Sewing Machine Is Best For Making Purses
Oakley replied to Mariel's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I think an Adler 221 is no cylinder arm machine, it's a longarm heavy duty flatbed. These machines don't make sense if you want to sew purses. Probably you mean another machine? I think the advice to buy a cylinder arm machine makes sense. I got flat bed, cylinder arm and post bed machines and would prefer post bed or cylinder arm for making purses. If your budget allows it I would look for a walking foot machine. Unfortunately these machines are quite expensive. Another option is to give it a try with a flatbed if you're sure that you sew only flat clutches, but you'll sew that you're quite limited if you want to do other things (bags/ purses). -
Does somebody knows skiving machines by IKOS Kranj-Jugoslavija? Are they comparable to Fortunas and high quality skivers or not so good? Thank you for your help.

Embarking On A Purse
Oakley replied to MudBugWill's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
You're projects are very nice. Especially the bag has a nice pattern. Do you share the CAD? If the fumes are a problem you can try Hirschkleber. That glue works very good if you stitch the leather afterwards and you can even wash it away with water. -
In Germany it's not available at all. One company wrote it's available but they can not order it. I think I will order it in UK.

Does somebody knows where I can get a spare round knife for a Rodi 50 for a reasonable price or does somedody wants to sell a used one which is in good shape? Preferably in Europe but if the knife would be cheaper somewhere else that would be fine, too. Thank you for your help.

That sounds for me like the upper thread tension is too loose or the threading is wrong. In Youtube you can see a few Pfaff threading videos, if you want to make sure it's correct. The first thing I would try would be to increase the upper thread tension, probably that solves the problem quite fast.

Thank you very much for your help. Unfortunately I'm in Germany, shipping from the US is quite difficult. I will order the other part which is available and try to change the inner thread to a standard M8. I hope that works and is a bit cheaper.
-
Thank you for your answers. Don't get me wrong I understand that quality costs money. Nevertheless I'was a little bit surprised. I would like to know if Pfaff uses a special screw thread. The dealer where I buy my normal screws and tools, measured it and said it's a M6 but those don't fit at all. I thought if somebody could identify the size I could order a few ones in the internet, but without an exact name or size it's very tough.

Of course here are two pictures.

Hello, I need a new screw for my Pfaff 1245-706. It's the one which regulates the preasure of the sewing foot. I think it's a Pfaff part no.91-000 636-25. Unfortunately that small screw costs around 32$/ 28€ if I buy the original spare part. Does somebody knows which thread Pfaff used or another screw which fits? I tried M5, M6 but they don't fit. The screw from my Pfaff 595 fits too. Thank you for your help. Regards

The idea was to place different machines on my joiner's bench to save space. Of course this one has no pedal. That's why I was looking for a motor with an accelerator pedal but if these solutions are much more expensive I'll use a special sewing machine table. The Problem is that I've got a Singer 18-2 which goes from left to right, a Singer 45K (cylindrical bed) and a Adler 30-1. I would like to use all machines with the same motor to save money and especially space. The machines don't have to run at once. I need a motor which runs very slow, the speed in the video would be completely ok for me. At the moment I don't have a motor at all. The Adler works fine with the hand wheel but the other machines but the other ones don't. Probably the best solution is the extra table and a second attachment for the motor on the left side, if I want to work with the 18-2.
-
Thank you for the answers. My problem is I wanted to mount different machines on a single table which has no pedal, but I've got righthand and lefthand machines. Probably the best solution is to change the position of the motor and use an own table with a pedal. I found this video in Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywhfblgi3FU does somebody knows which motor he uses? That's exactly what I'm looking for if I have to mount it on an own table.

Hello, I'm looking for a slow running/ strong servo motor for machines like Adler 30-1 or Singer 45K. My problem is I don't want one which controls the speed by chain or by rods. I'am looking for a motor which can be controled by a electronic accelerator. I hope somebody knows a brand or a way how it would work. Thanks.

They look great, how thick is the tooled leather?

Check Andrew Wrigley Shoemaking videos in Youtube. It's no book but a very good instructable. He shows all steps but it takes quite long to make a pair of shoes.

If kangaroo isn't too expensive I would prefer it. Kangaroo is very sturdy even thin leather. It's much better than cow or other leathers. I bought several kangaroo leathers a while ago, which are very soft and fantastic to work with. The only problem is maybe that lots of kangaroos have scars, but if that's no problem for you give it a try.

Hello, i'am quite sure that you need System 332 needles. I use them in my two Adlers as well. Just google needle 332 or search in ebay there are lots of sellers who have this type. A producer for example was lammertz (Germany). Some call it needles for Singer 29K, i think they are the same. I hope that helps you a little bit.

Where Did He Get Those Shoes
Oakley replied to electrathon's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
They look great. I know how much work it is to get a pair like that. I did my first one a few months ago. Can you post a picture, where i can see the surface/ sewing of the sole better? That was for me the most difficult part to get it flat. -
I've got this old Frobana press for shoe soles, but at the moment i can't use it. Probably somebody can help me. My problem is if I use the pedal the pressure rises, but it falls down immediately after the pedal is back in the starting position. I can't find where the problem is. Do i have to set the black controllers in a special position (i allready tried lots of different ones)? Thank you for your answers. Regards, Oakley

It looks great. Where can I buy a pattern like this or is it your own design?

Hand Made Boots Inspired By Merrell
Oakley replied to BorisVanJr's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
Very nice Boots. What's the exact name of the PVC, you used as armouring? I searched for a plastic that can be formed when hot, but found only very expensive ones. -
Thank you for your answers. I think WinterBear is right, i found another similar pattern on the handbag that can't be genuine.
