  1. Well had to make it. I have seen other people make them and I had to do it. the only differance is that i put a solid brass ferrule on it. Now I just need a worthy volunteer that is willing to to give me a personel review to see if these item will work. and one? and it needs to be someone that does edges and knows if it is good or bad.once I know if it is any good than i will start making them differens sizes and out of different woods.I will use cocobolo and bubinga woods. or a nice rosewood. I did it out of walnut because it was the first and If it did not come out I did not waste a piece of exotic that is a lot more expensive.. the shaft is 1/4 inch. and will fit on a standard drill. so let me know. I have tried it and i am very happy with it but I just need to see if it is a sellable object to all of you leatherworkers that is looking for a good tool. Gary
  2. Doc glad to see that you are keeping the gifts going. I knew I was right about you lol. Hope you keep up the great work and the kind heart. Gary
  3. Tim, Here are a couple that I have made in the last couple of days., The larger flatter one is a porcelain cabinet knob and the other rounder one is an ivory knob that i found. I have several of them since i found out they are real ivory I am slowly buying them all up at the resell store(a store that resells items from a house that has been renevated or torn down and the parts salvaged.). They do not know they are ivory and i have not told them yet or the price will go up 10 fold. I turn the handles out of bubinga and use a brass compression fitting and turn it on my lather after I have turned the hande enough to place it on and keep it in place by drilling it and then screwing the knob into the handle with a little super glue to keep it in place . then I finish turning the handle. I think they come out nice and I have you to thank. Had you not put your pics up I would not have went to the resell store looking for door knobs. so Thanks alot for the insperation. I have a couple of people that are wanting some so I guess I will make some and see if i can sell them. Gary
  4. I just finished my latest custom leather tool. It is a mini ball slicker that is made of Ivory. I scored at the restore(a store that takes donations of old homes and parts from the old homes) odf some porcelain knobs. there was several knobs that looked different and I took them to a friend that knows Ivory. (I thought it might be Ivory). When i got home I had to one up into a ball slicker. (never heard of one either till I coined the phrase). It is great to slick down the cove in some of my frames. let me know what you think of it. the end is pre ban ivory.and the handle is made of bubinga. the ferrule is made of soild brass. the other is a small mini bouncer that I made yesterday. it also has a handle made of bubinga and a solid brass ferrule Hope you like them. Contact me about the bouncers. As for the mini ball slicker I only have a few pieces so I am making them for my own personel collection.

I have just finished a mini ball slicker. It is made out of ivory. I was at the restore(like a thrift shop but for building supplies from remodled and toern down home) and I came across some cabinet handles that I thought was porcelain but when I looked closer I saw that they were different. I compared them to some Ivory that a friend has and found out it was ivory. I decided to make mini ball slickers. never heard of a ball slicker till I made one. and It does work nice. One is of Ivory and the other is of porcelain. They both have solid brass ferrule and both have bubinga handles that I turned on my lathe. hope you like them.

  6. Glad to see that some one else is doing what i am trying to do. I have several more gomp tools but have not made a box for them. In the collection in the red leather box is my creasers. it is the set of single and double and round bottom craesers. i need to get the box loops but have never even seen a set for sale anywhere. the wood box has the overstitchers in it. I am missing #4 and #12. I have an old c.s.osborne 312 and Use it more than any for some projects. I have the cscratch compass and severl of the french edgers but need to make a box for them. the french edger are all repairs and I am looking for a better set. i had head knifes but sold them before I decided that i wanted a complete set of Gomphs. So that is my mission in life beside trying to figure out how to make tools. Just made a mini bouncer today out od bubinga wood and a porcelean knob. I am making a set of Ivory ball slickers. I found some real Ivory cabinet Knobs in three differsent sizes and are starting on the set. i will post pics once I am done with them. the mini bouncer has a bubinga handle that i truned today with a solid brass ferrule and it is beautiful. I will include a picture. Gary

I made a mini bouncer out of a 1 1/4" porcelain cabinet knob. The hadnle is made of bubinga wood and it has a solid brass ferrule. I attached the knob and ferrule to a bubinga wood blank and then turned the blank . Let me know what you think. Gary

  8. Thank you for the compliments. It takes a little more work to do these because I have to do the doming and soldering the concho's and belt buckle before I can even start doing the leather work. I have other concho belt I want to do but these two kept rolling around in my head and i had to get them out before i went crazy. i was a little late on the crazy part but still having fun doing it and that is all that counts.

  13. Here is my latest projects . I made two conchos belts for practice. this is what i came up with. The conchos of both belts are made of 2" nickle rounds that I made concave by using my pepe steel concho die. once concave I soldered a 1" concho strap on the back of it. I used 1 1/2 oz leather on the back and then covered the concho with the snake and stingray. I laced the snake one's with a dark brown calf lace and the sting ray with a black calfs lace. The buckles were a little harder since I do not have a concho die that large. for that I used 16 gauge brass cut 3 1/2" for the snake and 4" for the stingray. I used the end of a log and with a template made a round mark in the log. with a ball peen hammer I made a concave area and placed the brass pieces in the log and with a poly concho hammer(rounded on both sides) and made the buckles concave. I soldered a belt strap and a hook on both buckles and finished like the conchos. I made the belt for both. the belt is about 18" to long just in case the person that buy's them is of a large frame or unless they are like me Fat.lol.

Black stingray concho bely. I made the conchos with 8 nickle rounds 2 1/2" in diameter. i concaved them and soldered concho straps on back . then i used a 1 1/2 oz leather for the back. I used a blcak calf lace for the double loop lace on the sides. the buckle is 4' in diameter and was made from 16 gauge brass that I concaved and the soldered a belt strap and a hook on the back and used the same technique as the conchos to finish. I made the belt to go with it.

  16. I descaled hundreds of snake skins by using my air compresser. When I first got the skins I was doing it the old fashion way by scrapping with a butter knife and one day while using my air compresser i thought about trying the air and woe and behold it blew the scales right off with great ease. after they are gone and I have mounted the skin i go over the skin with a good clear sealer. any clear sealer will work. unless you are using it for belts or wallets then I suggest using neat-lac. it brings the pattern out and protects the skin. I speak from experiance, it is the cleanest and fastest way to descale a snake skin. can be done in less then 1 minute . just be careful not to use to much pressure or you could rip the skin.

  22. ebay sucks big time, but I still use it on occasian. If they were not out to screw the sellers I would sell a lot more. I use to have hundereds of item on the site till they changed it to where the buyer can leave a negative and i could not do anything. so ebay only gets a few dollars a month when they could get hundereds if they would just go back to the way it was in 02 to 05 . I mainly use ebay to try and get away with using my website on it and try to get people to go to my website and buy tools from there. I only use iit to make a little money. sure wish they had a good place to sell but I will just have to wait till some else can compete with slezebay
