  3. Your notebook holder looks just fine. you did a nice job. keep up the good work and do somemore and put more pictures up also.
  4. My wife loves tequlia ,so do I .It make me look better to her lol. I saw that TKleather had done some pendelton bottles and decided to do a couple of tequlia bottles. I used my 1" glass hole drill and put in a small lamp like the christmas tree bulb . I put some clear glass beads in it and lite it up. and I think it came out real nice. I still need to make a bottom for it and decide if I want to make them with shades which means I have to drill two holes. I think I might leave them like this.I have all three size bottles made. I just have to get more of the cord and light sockets. Let me know what you think. One picture is with it turned on and the other is turned off. Gary

  11. If you mount your slicker in a drill(presuming you have a plastic of wood round wheel slicker) you can slick the edge a loat more and if you use it in conjunction with the gum tragacanth it will leave a very nice burnished edge.Or you can use the slicker with the black or brown edge dye finish and slick it and it works just fine.
  12. As stated in the third sentence of my first reply. It is ruined.no good, bad leather, worthless. no good for caca. land fill material, trash, not fixable, use another piece of leather. Can't get much clearer then that. You have ruined the leather ,it can not be used for this project. Get another piece and start over, When you do start over, case you leather with just cold tap water. soak it till it quite bubbling if you wish. put it in a bag and let it case(suck in the water that you put on the leather to a cellular level) and then go from there. If you have any more questions please ask but as for the leather

  14. I would use leather sheen to get that exact effect. It comes as a spray in a can or as a liquid that you can put in a spray bottle and spray on the leather after you are finished with it. Another way I get a real nice finshed that I think is better is with boot polish. I would use a brown boot polish and put on the strap and heat it with a blow dryer or embossing heating gun and blow it over the leather till dry and buff it out real good. If you want put another coat while the leather is still warm and let dry and then buff to a high sheen. look real nice and professional finish. Make sure you burnish the edge of the strap or it will not look as good. Got to have that nice burnished edge. I just use the same polish and use a cocobolo burnisher and it looks great.
  15. I needed a tool box that was nice enough to hold my Gomph Tools. Nice tools, so you have to have a nice box to put them in. The box is covered 100% with leather. The out side has a nice 2/3 oz leather dyed to a light brown. I put a red diamond tuck leather on the from and placed a scalloped punched leather over the red diamond tuck and placed solid brass tacks in each of the tooled scallops . The inside is covered bottom and sides with the same red diamond tuck . with a brass nail in each point of the diamond. I made the tool shelves out of walnut and drilled them 3/4" and sanded and sealed the wood and set two shelves in the box to holds two sets of gomph creasers. This is a very nice box that is still not quite finished. I still need to make the letters for my name to go one the red diamond tuck and I need to make a concho that I will put on top of the box with a silver concho in the middle of the leather concho. This is a fun box to make and i need to make a couple more to hold the rest of my Gomph tools. Hope you enjoy the pictures . Gary
  16. Here is a picture of one of my open faced boxes with a leather cross inside the box floating about an 1 1/2" above the inside of box I made the cross out of wood and covered it with calf leather and coverd the cross with leather front and back and a gymp strip aroung the edge of the cross with solid brass tacks The box is covered 100% with leather. on the back of the box is a set of praying hands. I lost the picture somewhere in the cyber world The inside of the box and the sides of the inside are done in a red diamond tuck leather with a solid brass nail in each point of the diamonds. I used a decortive gymp on the outside of the box framing it with a scalloped punched edge with solid brass tacks on it. This box was a challenge to make and it was the first ,So I had to work the bugs out. hope it is nice enough to show. Gary
  17. Tim, right nice job you did with those wallets for your boys. The only thing see wrong is that there is no money in the wallets. lol.
  18. RangerRodney ,Welcome to the leatherworkes web site. any question you have we will be able to answer. You have a few thousand years of experiance to call on from all of us and most of us are more then willing to help you if you have a problem.
  19. the first mistake you made was by submerging it in hot water. what you did was to do something called "cuir boulli' whern you submerge leather in hot water you harden the leather. You can not fix it . You have to get another piece of leather and start over. I use regular tap water with just the cold water on . or you can use a spray bottle and spray it and then put it in a plastic bag to case the leather. I do not use soap. if you do wish to add something to the water to soften up the leather use lexol. another problem was the leather. How many years have you had it and how was it stored. If it was stored when the sun can get to it ,even with out hitting it directly will harden the leather. you broke all the rules on casing ands storing leather. the only reason I know is because I did the same thing when I was a newbie. If you have some of the leather left you could spray some lexol and water on it and put it in a trash bag for a day and see if that helps to make it soft. If it does then you can precede from there. Just use cold tap water to case with .Do not use warm or hot water unless you are making armor. that is what you made with the old leather you started with the holster
  20. Storm another sucess as usual. You do real nice work with the caricartures. I love the whole series you have done and hope to seee more work this coming year and then some. Gary
  21. Clair.beautiful work on both of the items. I plan on making a clock later and hope it comes out as nice. Keep up the great work and hope to see more of it . GAry
  22. Storm as usual a very nice job. I love that you are doing the old rockers, but it kinds shows you age. let me guess 29 right lol. I do remember seeing the beatles live on the Ed Sullvian show. and thought they were long haired hippies then. boy were we fooled lol. Great job and thanks for the memories . Gary
  23. A creaser is a tool that is used to compress the edges of a piece of leather work like a harness or other tack. It compresses the leather making it last longer and leaves a single or double line depending on the tool. comes in 5 to 6 different sizes and has a couple of variation and widths. C.S.Osborne makes them,Gomph /hackbarth makes them and Tandy Usa use to make them when it was still a US company. It is a very handy tool to have in the tool box. It leaves a very nice edge when used with a burnisher also > I have bought some that was rusted and have used a wire wheel on my buffer asnd took the rust off and then lightly buffed it to make it smooth and then oiled it and wiped the oil off real good. Play with it on a piecs of leather strap to get a good understanding on how it works. Once you learn what the tool does you will want the whole set. post a picture so we can see what kind of shape it is in and then can give more advice
  24. had to show you the new addition to the set. I made a money clip and a bracelet to match the st hope it inspires someone else to make sets. Gary
