Thank you all for your kind comments and pointers to find some findings that might work on the next one. Yes it is. I just used a polly hammer to pound it flatter and a roller to smooth the rectangular braid out more. B...

Kangaroo Steam Punk Necklace 18 inches Brass Steam Punk Wheel Black Kangaroo Leather 12 Strand Rectangular Braid Hope you all like it. I had fun making it. There is still a point of frustration though. I am having a tough time finding the proper findings and some rectangular end caps in sterling silver and brass as well. The whole time I was making this necklace, I was also searching the net for findings that would work with this necklace. But to no avail, I had to settle for the ones that are on there from my local bead store. Oh well. Life goes on eh?... Brian...

Sorry megabit. I could not get the image to enlarge so I could see it better. Now that I've seen the lace a little better, I am thinking that maybe the lace is too thick and that could causing the pile up in the center. Of course I could be wrong. I have never built a bosal before. I just lent a hand in one. We were using horse hide and it was a bit thinner than the lace you have on yours. Another thing that could be causing the pile up in the center is that the center has no swell in it. On some of the bosals I have seen, they have two smaller ends and a swelling center. This is just what I have noticed and I still like it. The actual braid work is tight and that heel knot looks good. B...

Hi megabit. For some reason I don't think it is the lace size. I am not sure if you are just using one strand to make your nose button with or not. But here's an idea that I came up with when lilpep and I were working on one. We initially started with multi-strands. We worked one pattern up to the point of where the bend in the bosal would start, then we changed out patterns to a herringbone pattern which then would bend a little easier with the rest of the bosal without all the bunch up in the center. Once we cleared the center part of the bending on both sides of the nose button we changed back to the started pattern and finished it off. Hope it might help out some. It's just an idea to toy with or stuff in your tool box for later. B...

Thank you Bevan for that idea. I was considering what you were talking about and thought it might not work out so well. But I will give it a try out. Thank you Arno for your generous comment. Brian...

The flat braid. I am so sorry for not fixing this earlier. But in the interest of all braiders, I would like to correct that statement. In all actuality that braid is suppose to be a rectangular braid producing a boxed look, or on the sides a 3 strand braided look. Mine are not like that. But I have since found literature in a couple of Argentine books and within the Encyclopedia of Rawhide Braiding. I also have found out how to accomplish this braid by accident. LOL... I will take a few snaps of the braid I am working on when I finish it and if it looks good I will post it here. This technique of braiding was done by other braiders. The first publication that I could locate was in 1921 by an Argentine braider. I have only found 2 other Argentine books that have this technique in it. Both describe the same methods. As well, I found the technique listed in the Encyclopedia of Rawhide Braiding. There was not much in the way of information. But gave a pretty good description of how to do this technique. Brian...

LOL... Actually the big black one is an extra for the package. I had some lace left over from the cuts. So I made an extra one for him. He only had ordered 1 key fob. But I love to braid, and with extra string sittin around, I made another one. LOL... B...

Thanks for the comments folks. I really don't have that braid down like I want it to be yet. But as I was making these I made a discovery by accident. I will show that one later when I have it completed. B...

You're right about it being up close. In hand you really can't see it. It's the digital camera age. LOL... It is tight as it can go. Unfortunately, if I make it any tighter the gaps will get bigger. Thanks for pointing that out. B...

I got an order for these ones. Just about blew me out of the chair when I got the order. LOL... But here are two key fobs and I have one more item to make and the order is done. Then package it up and send it off. Brian...

I have attached a zip file that contains instructions. Just remember this one thing, any turks head or casa knot can be raised from the smallest foundation knot to a maximum width or length depending on how your perception is. The zip file contains a few extracts of pages that come from Tom Hall's book " Introduction to Turks Heads "... Once you have enlargement process 1 down, then we'll cover enlargement process 2. This process will be much easier to learn once the first process is learned. If you have anymore questions after going through these pages, please don't hesitate to post back here. If you have a good success at tying post back here with a photo of the work. We would like to see your work as you progress. The link to download this is below; Tom Hall Enlargement Process 1

Hi Arno. It's almost right in the braiding. Small mistake that I did not notice till it was too late. But I did think it was a neat mistake. The mistake is at the bottom end. It is a Pineapple knot. Thanks for the kind comment Arno. Yep. I did not see that mistake till it was too late. Good eyes Miguel. B...

This is what I was trying to say in an earlier post. It all depends on the patter you are looking for as to how hard or how easy and quick your braiding will be. If you desire the over 1, under 1 pattern then it's the hard way. If it is another pattern like under 1, over 2, or the half round braid then it's the easy and quick way. It's all dependent on the pattern you seek to use. B...
