    Beveling Lace.

This is one of those monumental moments in my braiding skill set. As most braiders do, we try out things to see if that thing will work or not. I've been trying out different blades and such for years now. I just came across these shaving blades. The double edge platinum chrome blades used in those shavers from the old days. So I bought these blades and never tried them out. I thought to myself. These are paper thin and flimsy and wont do the job. Well my bad. They bevel the lace really damn smooth and crisp. I have never been able to cut my kangaroo lace but to a 1/16th width. Since trying these blades out, I have managed to cut 2 lengths of laces, just scrap pieces to a 1/64th width beveled and split and in the photo you'll see just how smooth the cuts are. I bought these blades from a local drug store. They should be available in most wally worlds, kmarts and maybe even safeways. I don't know that for sure though. Brian...
  10. Thank you Buck for the very kind comment. As far as I know of this one is not reversed. It's a straight forward bi-helix. I've since figured out how to change the direction in the helix part of also. I will making another like this accept for myself this time. LOL... Brian...
  11. This necklace features something original. But not new by all means. Thanks Buck for being there. Bi-Helix Inter-Braided 18 inch necklace. Hanging on it is a .925 sterling silver braided pendant. Brian...
  12. Then back braid and then tie a knot of some type over those back braids. Back braiding is sort of like splicing.
  13. Hey Josh. There are many ways to approach this and there are many multi-stranded stopper knots. The attached is only one of those many stopper knots. Here are a few books you should probably invest in if you plan on pursuing braiding. The Ashely Book of Knots - You can either buy this one online, or you might find it in your local library. Tom Hall - More Western Tack Tips. Tom covers a great deal in the multi-stranded stopper knots and a variety of fancy ones at that. A little more complicated ones. Brian...
  14. Well then. I think that the one I got this from is a whip braider and has been using it for about 30yrs. He don't seem to have an issue with it.
  15. Diameter * 4.5 Take that and divide by the number of strands you want to use. Brian...
  16. For the size of a quater you'll need 4 strands cut at, 1.072125 inches. So, I'd round it down to about an 1 inch in width. Brian...
  17. My first choice is Taubman & Webb out of Australia. Second choice is Hardkey out of El Paso TX. Those are the two that I use the most when buying my hides. Brian... Thank you for the very gracious comment Greg... Brian...
  18. No rawhide. All kangaroo. Ran out of time to get this stuff done. I might put some rawhide on my necklace though. Brian..
  19. I made this one for my uncle.
  20. Looks to me like a Slit Braid handle. Which means they made the handle first and then put the snap end on last. Google should be able to come up with a tutorial on that type of braid.
  21. It was a little lanyard swivel hook.
