    A Key Fob

I started this one while I was in Sheridan for the world leather debut. This one is headed for a new found friend from florida that I met in Sheridan. 17part 8 bight Pineapple with 1.3mm whiskey tan and an offset saddle tan lace. 10 strand whip makers plait for the loop done in rectangular plaiting. 3. Looks like I'm doing the bottom part over again. Ho hum... Brian
  4. LOL... You're too funny Buck. See you there bro.
  5. So am I. LOL. I'm getting tired of looking at it. LOL...
  6. Got me an idea brewing. Only 4 more things to do. What do you think so far? The necklace braid is a modified whip makers plait. The pendant part is another modified whip makers plait with 2 transitions in the braiding. This should be interesting to see if I can actually finish it off and still make it look pretty. LOL... This is what happens when I'm left alone with my leather for too long. LOL... Brian...
  7. It appears to me to be a mixture of Austrian quill embroidery and applique work.
  8. Flat piece of leather. Soak it in water for about 30mins. After soaking I then cut a 1 inch diameter circle. Inside that circle I cut a 1/2 inch circle (A doughnut) in other words. Then I put the circle over a tapered rod like a pool cue and pushed it down till it stopped and could not go anymore. I then used a plastic zip tie to hold down the bottom most edge of the leather circle and waited for it to dry. After drying I then dressed up the leather. Brian...
  9. Is there any scientific data to support that? Brian...

    Misc Leather Works

Just some of my other works.
  11. From the album: Misc Leather Works

This is a seamless leather ring about 1 inch. I got this idea from Peter Main who posted his on his FB page. A real interesting story behind to. A good little puzzle that I had fun with.

  16. I like the slits better. But that would require more lace and more time. I usually scribe a line at 1/8th from the edge with my dividers and then chisel my slits right below that line. The chisel in other words will just touch the line that is scribed. I also angle my chisel at 45 degrees. It is also better to chisel while the leather is wet just as you would in tooling leather and it is also much easier to lace when the leather is at the right temper as in tooling also. I use a fid to open the slits just wide enough to fit the lace through without any friction to the lace. Brian...
  17. You should be okay going around the smallest turn. Space your holes 1/8th apart and 1/8th from the edge and you'll get much better coverage through out the whole project. Brian...
  18. A 5 part 4 bight base knot - 4 bight is divisible twice. A 7 part 6 bight base knot - 6 bights is divisible 3 times. A single string version of the gaucho will work on the second one quite well. Gauchos are dependent on the bights being of an even number or the numbers being of an even type value. I have only encountered this once or twice and only because my braiding mentor brought it to my attention some years ago. So I had conducted a little bit of research into that matter. The 7part 6bight base casa knot seems to be the most popular with this simply because people tend to tie this knot more often than not. It's been some years ago that I worked on this research and the data is some where on one of my hard drives. Of course this will take some digging through about 10 hard drives. Gaucho Knots - Quoted from Tom Hall (Introduction to Turks Heads) page 127 " Gaucho knots are regular cylindrical flat braids with a constant column coding throughout the knot. It must have gaucho bights on each edge of the knot. Gaucho Fan Knots - Again from Tom Hall's book (Introduction to Turks Heads) page 125. I am hoping that this helps out. Brian...
  19. Mathematically that will not work. Simply because the 7x6 is both row and column coded. Brian...
  20. Thank you all for the very kind comments. Brian...
  21. Believe it or not and no disrespect or anything like that toward anyone. I will sometimes be going through my books and looking at different knots. Then I will be sometimes looking through other braiders photo galleries. Then I start to thinking into the wee hours of the night and morning and fall asleep and then even have a dream about it. LOL... I use a tool called the Grid Maker to work out all the specifications on the design itself once I have the design worked out in my brain. Brian...
  22. Thank you Fat Dog. Brian...
  23. Thank you Buck for the very kind comment. Brian...
  24. Thank you both for the very kind comments. The knot is a design based on 2 other different knots, or at least the main features of 2 other knots. It took me about 3 days and long hours of no sleep hardly because that knot kept me awake. LOL... Brian...
