That's a good post. SO many people SO petty these days, many won't post something that actually helps the next guy. Good to see there's another one of us left

@GRod I don't think I got 35 lbs to shed, actually, but 15 and harden it could happen @bikermutt07 Great work. I'm guessin' that 100 lbs for me means .. maybe remove one leg at the hip and one arm at the elbow?

Wife on about hitting the gym (me, not her ). Then she bought the membership. Then she bought teh shoes. Then some girl sent me pics ..... uh... inspirational stuff .... Guess nobody else needs to tighten up a bit...
-
OH .. to be clear, I'm doing this because it's a good idea .. NOT because of pics of some girl in her underpants And that's my left arm hanging, phone in right hand. Happens with pics in the bath mirror (note: observation is 9/10 of the law -- note backwards lettering on the free shirt).

I never order belly leather. Spongey, stretchy, not firm and doesn't hold shape well. BUT that could be said for bellies NOT ON COWS, eh? Few months ago, the wench wife bought me a gym membership. Couple weeks ago, she showed up with new athletic shoes, just happen to be my size Fine. Winter in the north is a bit stifling and I like to get out the chair anyway. Plus, I'm WAY too cheap to pay for a gym membership and then not use it So after talking with a girl yesterday who sent me some rather 'racey' pics showing her weight loss "journey", I took a couple myself. Truth be told, I DO have a bit of 'belly leather' that could be trimmed. Consider it the "before" pic ... ANYBODY ELSE? (Nate, not you kid ). Click to enlarge, just remember that when the pic enlarges, the belly enlarges... you dun been warned

I got that same wooden little strap thing. Worked great for a long time on leather from 4 oz to about 10 oz. Anybody noticing they have found yet another thing to make cheaper? I got new blades , right out the package, won't cut anything. More than one package. I thought at first maybe I had bent the thing, and that's why a new blade wouldn't cut (but not the case, and even if it was a small shim would fix that). They're basically just an inexpensive "safety" version of a draw guage - inexpensive and blade recessed was always the selling points, and they WORK. Fella with a piece of wood and a coping saw could make one simply enough - nothing 'fancy' about it.

Personally, I'd want to USE one before I'd take the word of somebody I don't know. In case you haven't figured it out, many of the "reviews" you see on products are heavily influenced, many even compensated. Always been that way, but even more so in these days of "you like my page and I'll like yours" poop. You don't have to go very far. This site is easy to find many posts about products from people who aren't personally familiar with the product, but feel some need to post anyway. I have been told I should order Hermann Oak leather and get this or that sewing machine by people who have never used either Having said that, I have not used the cowboy splitter.. never even been in the room when someone else is using one. Because of that, if I were in the market for something in that range, I'd go SEE one used. I would want to know something about the blade... what size? how difficult a job to sharpen it, and how often would I expect it to need sharpening? Are replacement blades available, and are they cost effective? WHY-tube CAN be used for some good, but that's the exception really. Know who I really admire? That alien queen that just won't stop chasing Sigourney Weaver... that's a great actress. Wonder what planet she was born and raised on ... She's skilled and determined. POINT IS I can make a video that makes ANYTHING look good.

Belt Makers
JLSleather replied to yippi's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Tooled, or not? If you're making solid color smooth belts, english bridle is a great choice. Obviously if you're tooling or stamping, then tooling leather will be required. I will say that I don't like all belts 10 oz and up. Thicker leather isn't required for any of them, actually, but some like it. That can work, but I don't care for the look on narrower straps. 1" wide or less, a strap that heavy just doesn't look right proportionally. Going to depend on your customer. Hermann Oak and Wickett-Craig both have some very nice leathers. -

I resemble that remark. Still, that's some stuff I kin admire -- good lookin' AND useful. I aint much time for that "purdy stuff" that just sits on a shelf somewhere - gimme the stuff that has a purpose. Fer a saddle, I mighta give it sumthin to tie down with, but there's still time, and it sure looks like you kin do 'er Nice color, too. Good work - keep 'em comin'.

Beretta 92FS Magazine Question
JLSleather replied to steelhawk's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Consider also - you can contact @wayner and get urethane molds made of your mags. I've done it myself ... customer give me a mag, wayne put some dummy rounds in there, mold the stuff, send you back both. I was going to put a price here, but maybe better to contact him. Very reasonable, and the service is good. Glock 27, Glock 43, and SA 9mm EMP. I have a Sig 229 15-rd mag that would absolutely NOT fit in that Just sayin', they aint all the same. -
Cuz taxes didn't suck enough ...
JLSleather replied to JLSleather's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Iowa had us charging tax on sales within iowa and any other state where we have a presence, which is currently NONE. 99 counties with their own discretion at local option. State tax is 6%. ALMOST all the counties add 1% local tax, total of 7%. Its relatively painless. As of Feb, Iowans pay sales tax on purchases from other states. This is IOWA collecting a tax on goods shipped to IA, NOT the state sending the goods collecting tax. States doing this incl [but no limited to] WA, SD, IA, OK, MN, ... i forget the rest. So FL, for example, is now required to collect tax on purchases shipped to IA, even though they HAVE NO sales tax in FL So they collect sales tax on goods shipped to IA, but in IA we do not charge tax on goods sent to FL . Now - my personal OPINION admittedly not supported by actual knowledge - many people on THIS site will claim the dummy rule, sometimes called "plead ignorance". On top of the "i didn't know" crowd will be some others - when ordering materials, many like to say "Im a business" and when tax is due that same person claim "im just a hobby". Whatever - Im not the tax enforcement. But I know for a fact that Cutesy, Ebay, and Amazon are all collecting and remitting sales tax ON BEHALF OF the people who sell on those sites. I bought something on Ebay recently and the seller was surprised to see I was charged tax. So I don't think it will take too long before what those sites report and what the individual sellers report clearly don't match... and then it will get far more interesting. -
Agreed. Compare the product - not the "epic" story (hype). Plus, when I ask a price and get "only 29.95 a month", I take that as a guy who refuse to answer a question. I'm out. If they aint one, they should be one. That's a good starting test - ask 'em about they GOODS. See if they revert to name dropping and blame shifting. Examples... along with some comments ... A: Well, the cost is high because I use only Herman Oak leather .. founded in 1881, using american cow hides, best in the land, greatyest wonderfulest EVER,..... blah blah blah.. HO HO HO.... But, so do those other guys. A: See, I polish m' edges from Tuesday 'til early Friday morn. hashtag wax, hashtag oil, hashtag elvis was the king, Blah blah blah... Uh, okay. But your carving is not good, and your stitch lines are 1/4" away from my pistol (?@!)@#@! A: Uh, yeah, your holster is supposed to bind like that when you tighten your belt. Plus Jeff is a dumb-dumb-poopie-head. Jeff ain't here, so it aint Jeff binding your holster. And if your holster is tighter on the belt than it is in the hand, then it's a construction issue, not a "'newness" issue. A: Well, we sell a lot o' stuff, plus been doing this fer a jillion years now... The 14th St. "pro working girls" could say the same thing. Does anybody really believe the "product" is better?@! You get the idea. I'm ALL FOR educating the customer and letting them make an informed choice (but not everyone is). Turning to current important issues... is there a 12-step program for pistachio eaters?@!

Actually, I thought of you when I watched part of it. He got some great examples of "not here" goin on there. Check out his scrolls -- on the left and right, about vertical center...

Negative? Did I say something that wasn't true? I would have thought that and were something other than negative. But, I suppose if I continue on that idea it begins to look like someone's opinion matters to me ...

I did see one of his videos before about coloring leather, or dyeing leather, whatever he called it. Lost me when he threw acrylic stuff at an otherwise great lookin' belt. Each his own, I suppose. This one here, just fast forward a couple of times for the hi-lites, I see he calls a flower center a "one hit tool" 3 times, then hits 2 of them 3 times and 3 of them 2 times Few minutes later, he goes back over those same centers, bops 'em a couple more times .. so , they're "one hit again"? ETA: I see in V4 he goes back over the "undercuts", though he made a point of saying he doesn't like to go back over anything. Still, at a glance - I do like that he's showing how to firmly tap the tool into the leather. This is why I sometimes have moved to calling it "bop" the leather - since SO MANY people you see almost look like they're afraid to hit it. BOP maybe relays the idea you supposed to HIT it. No question there's some info here worth seeing. He backgrounds WAY before I would .... just shows more 'n' one way to skin a cow.

Strongest Adhesion But Most Flexible Contact Cement For Leather
JLSleather replied to Toddo's topic in How Do I Do That?
I really must try that weldwood folks talk about. But I still have some this other stuff left, so I've had it in mind to pick up the weldwood next time I'm around a store. Meanwhile, I been usin' this Renia stuff. Green label. Works great - no complaints at all. Used by shoe / boot folk for a good while, so it certainly should hold belts/holsters/wallets. Tuolene free. -
Pressure foot issues with Cowboy 3200
JLSleather replied to TheHollerLW's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Feed dog might be a sliver high, but doesn't look like it should be a problem. And the upper spring still works against the direction, so if that's fairly loose that maybe isn't the issue at all. Still, if your pressure is "backed off", seems like both feet are pretty deep in the leather. Either spring pressure or spongey leather ... -
I forgot about that actually. But today I sent you a small package for you 'n' that other one. Again .. not necessary fellas. Like 5 times (somebody correct me ifn it was 6) I tried to gather a list of worthwhile videos so that folks could maybe skip endless hours repeating searches that other folks already did. In fact, really not necessary to mention me at all. It's about the leather. Just like that list we made of people who make those "maker mark" stamps. That went fairly smoothly. This could too --- all that's required is either add to the conversation, or leave it alone.

Looks almost like it's getting "embossed" up into the hole. Is your feed dog too high? -
I wanted to make an order on Buckleguy and the shipping is 30$
JLSleather replied to HeatherLeather's topic in Suppliers
Priority mail boxes are delivered to my door for free. In packs of 25. Available in a couple dozen sizes I think, though I only order 4 sizes myself. When I want to ship something more economically, I get brown boxes on ebay for about 40¢ each, and it's $2.62-$3.82 to ship them 1st class (16 oz or less). -
Old woman showed up last night with shiny, fancy new shoes to go with the gym membership she bought me recently. Wait.. WHAT.. ?@! So this morning I'm havin' 4 eggs instead o' 6, and only HALF a cup (one bowl) of oatmeal, and skippin' the brown sugar in the oats and goin' with diced whole apples instead. I'll hit the gym, but I'm jus tellin' ya now - when TWO boys half my age quit and go home cryin', that's when I stop for the day
