  1. I use a high density foam for storing mine. For what it's worth, I have used a wine cork for storing a jerk (hook) needle for many years and I have not seen any damage as of yet.
  2. Just read this post and I wanted to add my congratulations as well. Positively well deserved!
  3. Thanks guys for the kind comments. The finish is some old Tandy brown antique stain I've had several years with a couple of coats of Fiebings Tan Coat. Edges were finished with dark brown antique, saddle soaped, and hand burnished.
  4. Just wanted to post a few pics of my stitching horse I refurbed several years ago. This was an an old barn find out of California purchased off Ebay. I spent about a month tearing it down, sanding, refinishing and have used it for about 10 years now. My wife thought I had lost the last bit of sense I had when I bought it. The "Lil' Dude" Pro Stitching Tree I purchased from the old HideCrafter Leather Co. I have since modified the base to provide a tilt forward capability of about 30 degrees. I was wondering if anyone else owned one of these? I have also been considering modifying it to be similar to a Dale Grabowski Sit and Stitch as thread can get hung on the "Dude's" external tension adjustment hardware.
  5. See Finishing Edges pinned at the top of this forum section. I can't think of a better method of producing clean edges than the work Bob Parks does. Truly inspiring!
  6. A couple of small items for everyday use. Made from horse butt remnants and hand stitched with artificial sinew. Made these while recovering from some back surgery.
  7. I agree, it looks great as is. Very nicely tooled. Very classy!
  8. Too much as a general rule. I am ordering some antique paste to try and the shipping for 1/2 pound of product is going to cost me $4.50. FYI...UPS announced this morning they are going to tack on additional "surcharges" for home delivery because, as they state it, revenue from home delivery is not meeting their expectations.
  9. Very impressive work! Any gunslinger would be proud to slap that leather!
  10. Not sure if this of the size you're looking for, but here are a couple: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leathercraft-leatherwork-leather-Tandy-craftool-stamp-Z781-/121469439213?pt=AU_Leathercraft&hash=item1c48248ced http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leathercraft-leatherwork-leather-Tandy-craftool-stamp-Special-Z780-/121469438468?pt=AU_Leathercraft&hash=item1c48248a04 and a set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-Craftool-USA-Leather-stamp-tool-Z780-Z781-Z782-Alpha-bevelers-/161499667326?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item259a215b7e
  11. Just browsing this topic and saw this print press on Ebay. Might be an option for you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LETTERPRESS-STAMP-PRESS-PRINT-BLOCK-FARM-TRACTOR-/261675089043?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ced0cfc93
  12. There is also S&D Trading Company in Lubbock, Texas. They advertize 1/2 to 3/4 pound for $8.99 on their web site. http://www.sdtradingco.com/leather-remnants.htm
  13. Chief, Check Springfield Leather. I think they have shearling remnants at a reasonable price.
  14. Yes, the order details were worked out through his web email address bearmauls@yahoo.com. I will admit I had the same apprehensions but our communication was good, although it did take a few days between replies. My order took about 45 days to get to me. The craftsmanship is excellent and was well worth the wait. Ed delivered as promised and I have no reason to think he would not do the same for you.
  15. Just wanted to mention something I noticed on the photo of the stand only, there appears to be a blemish on the top at the left of the stand. I am not sure what happened when I took the pic, but there is no flaw in the wood. I just did not want anyone to think that the quality received from Beary was less than 1st class.
  16. It's been forever since I last posted but I had to share photos of my new maul set from Beary Stiles. Rosewood and maple 15 and 20 oz. mauls, hammered end caps, and matching stand. My pics don't do them justice, the workmanship is perfect. I can't say enough regarding the quality, 1st class in every way. Many, many thanks to Beary for the excellent job he did. I am thrilled to own these and plan to put them to great use now that I am not traveling constantly with work. Thanks Beary!!!
  17. Looking for a free spinning yoke for an Al Stohlman brand cast swivel knife.
  18. Any updates on this thread? Have either of you received your orders?
  19. I have some old Tandy catalogs from around the mid 90's if you would be interested in scans from one of those. It would take a couple of days for me to find them.
  20. Thank you most kindly for both comments.

  21. The olive drab box suggests these were likely a US Army calvary saddlers kit for stamping serial numbers in harness and tack.
  22. Welcome to the site and the group from another Indiana leather worker. I second the previous comments, Great site, Great information, and even Greater Folks. There is something here for everyone no matter what their skill level and always new ideas and leather work to inspire you. Jump in and have some fun!
  23. These are some of the carved panels from the Al and ANN Stohlman workbench. There also used to be patterns of these that were printed in the old "Make It with Leather" magazines. Perhaps someone on the board has them. You might try a forum search on "Stohlman workbench". Would likely pull other past conversation concerning the Stohlman's bench.
