these boots belong to a reenactor friend of mine and he gave me the hard task of taking in the boots of 2 inches in diameter as they where to wide for him and as he is tall he also wanted that i add another 2 1/2 inches to the top of the shaft so this is what we came up with, i stiched the brown leather to the top and relined the boots with a scalloped top to finish it of, Don

Saddle restoration
Don101 replied to CollinsMS's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
i have heared nothing but good stuff about black rock but its to expencive for me to buy and import to Germany, after cleaning with a low warm soapy water i let it dry out naturally and use a plain saddle oil (non color) and apply with a rag once that is soaked up and dryed out i then apply a bees waxed leather conditioner its very simular to saddle soap but doesnt dry out with that white powder, here is a pic of before and after, Don Before After -

My latest concealed carry belt.
Don101 replied to Grunt's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Grunt that is a nice made belt, and hand stitched too, i like the color and finish you have, very profesional looking, i noticed on the last pic though that you have stitched across the belt is that to hold the keeper is so stitch it along the belt as i could cause a weak point like a perferated stamp, or stitch the keeper together and slide it over the belt and secure it between the posts it wont move, Don -
Well i thought i would reinvent the wheel...LOL this is the lazy pony i have been toying with this idea for some years but never found time to get around to build it, i got the idea from stitching loops on the belt but no matter how you try and place the belt in the stitching horse its always interfiering with the tension spring in the middle, and each stitch you have to flip the belt to the left and then the right so this is what ive come up with, its a pony/ horse clamp on its side with the jaws upright and a sky hook in stalled so i can pull the belt upward to stop the fliping from left to right and the belt hangs straight down, its very basic as its sunday and had to use what i had at home (stores arnt open) ive tried it out and found it better than my expensive horse, its compact and removable and easy to store away when its not needed, Don

Casing leather
Don101 replied to UKRay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Interesting subject, I didnt even know what casing was before i joined this forum, ofcourse i was wetting my leather dont get me wrong but it all seems a bit to mutch like rocket science to me or a good way to make money selling a product that you dont really need, ive been doing for years basically the same thing when i want to carve or stamp, i hold the leather under running water for a few mins then set it aside for a couple of hours till its nearly dry and cold to touch, no soaps chemicals or mouthwash,(LOL) although im going to give the spray bottle a try out and see if it works for me, Don -
