  1. Purchase a good pricking iron with the amount of stitches you want your product to be. The awl is very important as stated above. I do English repair work and hand stitching is what is necessary most of the time.
  2. I made this for a customer who wanted a cross draw so he could wear it when on his tractor. It's a S/W shield with a laser sight.
  3. Great looking tool. Would love to order one. Possible to have the maker's name and phone number.
  4. the holster was made for a 4-inch commander not the gun that's in the holster at this time
  5. Thank you Jboss. Just found out the newer 1911's have a safety built in that won't allow the weapon to discharge. I think it's called the 80 series.
  6. I made this with two adjustments one for the cock and lock and the other for the hammer down on a empty chamber. Weapon in the picture is not the one the holster was made for. I'm told nobody carries a 1911 with the hammer down. I still wanted to see if I could make the two position holster. To much time on my hands.
  7. Rec'd an assortment of exotics from a supplier in Wisc. Scrap pieces. The supplier is Sew What. He gets lots of seconds and closeouts. Good source for me for the material I need to repair horse blankets.
  8. Made this using Black Veg Tan. Then covered the top layer with elephant. No slots at this time because customer hasn't decided what size belt he going to use.
  9. I have a Singer 281-1 that I use to sew the really light weight fabrics. Like silk, chiffon and the anything related to that thickness. I have sewn two pieces of nylon webbing that is used for the belly straps on horse blankets. I don't have a reducer on it and it runs like a racehorse. You really have to play with the pedal to control it.
  10. I have this machine and use it for the heavy horse blankets I have to repair. My question is I was wondering if anybody knows of a leather needle system that may work. I'm told the only needles made are 7/23. I enclosed a picture of the machine. Any help, would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Not sure this will help but look at the holster Ghormley made for Russell Crowe. I think his method may work. Good luck.
  12. I used military black from Angelus dye company. On the thread color I wanted the thread to be close to the color of the body of the holster. I don't like white thread. I feel it takes away from the overall look of the holster.
  13. Thank you all for the response. As per your request MMN. Sending two more.
  14. I have one also, Good machine I sew lots of medium to medium heavy horse blankets on it. Have done some wallets and lots of nylon work. I agree with Spud try the safety. I would figure the machine to be somewhere in the 500.00 dollars range in the condition you state. I paid 800.00 for mine up and running.
  15. Made this for a S/W MP40. Almost finished. Needs some dye work and edge paint. Opinions appreciated.
  16. They fit on the side of a creaser to make a round strap. You slide the flat strap in and it folds the leather making it easier to make a round for reins or halters or whatever. Just put one on a friends creaser the other day. Great tool.
  17. Laughing, my granddaughter is getting her Foid card and the weapon she is purchasing is pink. Go figure. LMAO.
  18. Had a similar problem with a side from Triple C. What I found was as stated earlier rawhide spots. What I normally do is I keep quarts of liquid saddle soap and apply before I start marking and cutting. Getting through that rawhide is a bitch. Sure glad that hide is used up.

    Pump

I've seen the various posts on using plastic bags and sucking the air out to help mold holsters. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on were to purchase a pump and bags. I have used the bags from Harbor Freight that you attach a vacuum cleaner to. I found these to be to big and the vacuum cleaner to noisy and not enough suction for me. Any help, would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Punch

I may be looking for the needle in the hay stack, but I need a slotted punch 2" that won't cost me an arm and a leg. I tried a few die makers and the prices are enough to make you gag. Getting older maybe I should try for the clicker type.
