It's my pleasure. I have been following topics on belt making and there are several new crafters that need that extra little something to get them in the right direction. The belt measurements for the center bar and heel buckled belts are the same I have used for years for dress belts as well as gun belts and have always worked. Then out of the blue I decided to add measurements for shield buckled belts. That's where my "OOPS" came in yesterday. The belts for shield buckles will generally be 2" shorter because of the length of the buckle. Well, dummy me went and adjusted 2" off of everything. Then right after it posted that little voice in the back of my head said "Jim that ain't right. The buckle to center hole doesn't change." D'oh! So, the chart and instructions posted are correct and most sincere apologies for the slip up. I almost create a bigger problem than I was trying to fix. Have fun with this, I have plans for more in the future. Jim

My apologies folks, but this is what keeps me humble. Of those of you who have downloaded the file, delete and re-download the new file. Thanks, Jim

Back when I was younger and had all my hair, I decided I wanted to make my own belt rather than settling for what I could get from the store. So, I asked some advice from one of them "experts." I says, "How long do I make it?" He says "Add four inches." "Mmm-kay. Add four inches to what" At which point I got a crash course in rocket science that I didn't want or need. So, I did what most folks do and measured out my old belt. That worked. But then a feller asked me to make him one. Mmm-kay. Now I'm in trouble. Moral of the story is I got tired of the hit and miss, the re-do's, and utterance of profane syllables. So, I created the little tutorial posted here and want to share it all you fellow leather workers for your enjoyment. This is the end result of a lot of hard work, so use it well. It is formatted on letter size sheets so you can print at home. Folks, I discovered that I posted a faulty Size Chart with this. I have replaced it with a correct set so please re-download and forgive my oversight. Enjoy, Jim Dress Belts.pdf

How I'm Gonna Sew A Box From Individual Parts Of Leather
Jim replied to Lillian ADju's topic in Sewing Leather
I'll have to watch the video when I get in to see if we are talking about the same thing. My methods have to do with cartridge boxes. The methods will however work for any leather box. Jim- 18 replies

What's Your Process For Dyeing?
Jim replied to keithpip's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I have dyed everything from pokey watch holders to rifle scabbards and can tell you that sheep shearling is the only way to go. Cut a 3 inch diameter circle of the shearling and it makes the perfect dye applicator. No pretreating required with the oil dye. After the dye sets, use Fiebing's Resolene to finish with a pampered sponge. You'll have a holster that will take whipping and keep on whooping. Oh, I forgot to mention that once the dye pad is cut out, use scissors to trim the wool to just under a half of an inch. If it's too long it will dribble dye everywhere. Jim -
That's got the makings of a fine looking Pecos Slim holster. Glad to help Bruno. Jim

Sorry for the misspelling. It's hard to type on this I phone.

Well, lets take a look at the idea. Eleven years ago I bought an HP 9800 seies printer do I could check pattern as they were drawn to check for errors. One day I cut dome poster board to 11 x 17, set the printer for the heavier paper, and bingo! Instant template right of the computer. Now, anyone who has any of my patterns in print see that the instruction show how to trace the templates on to the poster board with carbon paper. Huff! What a drag! Wouldn't it be so much easier to print them? What a time saver! And in this business; time are money. Who knows, this concept just might render pattern on paper obsolete. Think about it. Jim

I can relate to that Blackey. I was living in an rv by the Etowah River in Georgia when I started my holster business. Now y'all know why it's called Etowah River Productions. I'll have to do some research to see how to get into e books. I'm kind of a dinosaur when it comes to this electric digital e stuff. Later on I intend to hold a discussion about the advantages of patterns on disc and owning printers that will print the larger sheets. Jim

The CAS book is the newer one. If you have it then you would not need the older one. Yee Haa covers everything that is in the Book of Leatherwork except that it includes bullet and shell slides. Thanks, Jim

1863 Civil War Holster Pattern
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The Civil War is the most re-enacted period in our history and suppliers are not interested in offering patterns for the military items used. Go figure! So, it's my pleasure! Jim -
Alrighty then, you fellows have talked me into trying an experiment. I want to get some input on having the patterns sent on CD. This will require you to have the patterns printed at your friendly neighborhood print shop. The Instructions are several pages of color photos and text and may prove to be expensive to print, so you have the option of that or leaving them on CD and viewing by computer as you build the item. I want to test market on two patterns for the Slim Line Shell Slides and Bullet Slides popular with SASS and Cowboy Action Shooters. The disc will contain both. Now, I do not want anyone feeling excluded but I need three different inputs and thoughts about the "yea and nay" of the disc concept. So, with that I am volunteering three members in private posts to try this out on. So, be patient with me and I'll be back on this matter as soon as I can. As soon as I get this figured out, I will make a post on the For Sale Thread offering any available patterns on disc. Thank you for everything, Jim

Instructions for the 1863 Civil War Holster Enjoy Jim CW Holster Instructions.pdf -
Alrighty then, folks have been looking for this pattern for the 1863 Holster from the Civil War. Well, being as nobody wants to carry it, I decided to post it here for all to enjoy. Keep in mind that the Patterns are on 17 x 11 sheets. The Instructions are on 8 1/2 x 11. When you have the Patterns printed be sure to tell them to set the Page Scaling to NONE! DO Not Fit To Page, the patterns will be too small when printed. The Instructions won't fit here so they are on the next post. Enjoy Jim R. Simmons Etowah River leather CW Holster Holster Pattern .pdf
