  1. Can someone breakdown the general differences between the Singer 111,112, 211, 212 machines? I've been under the impression that the 211,212 were just updated versions of the 111 but even if that's true I'm not sure what update they include. Thanks!
  2. Between a Singer 29K60 and a 29K62, is one of the bobbins bigger ? I have a K62 and it uses a small bobbin, but there's a K60 I have my eye on and a large bobbin would help me make a decision. Thanks.
  3. I sometimes feel I have to hold back on this forum when questioning people here about details (or harping on them, lol), so as not to offend. Wiz, I hope you don't really mind your knowledge and authority being questioned by us new guys (myself). You're always a HUGE help, it's just that it's only smart to weigh all the info. If I've misread your meaning, I appologize.
  4. So which is the vespa and which would be the Beetle? I thought the Singer 111W*** was a descent choice. Also why would the portable version of the Consew 206RB be a bad choice at this price point?
  5. For the purpose of making leather chaps, vest etc... which would you buy and why? - a new Consew portable walking foot machine (CP206R) or find an old Singer 111w***, 112, 212, etc walking foot machine. Keep in mind that I'm not necessarily needing a machine to be portable - they're just readily available at reasonable prices.
  6. The difference from Amuckart's link is that you can choose from either "Belts" or "Belting". The belts section offers pre-closed round belts and the belting section is open ended.
  7. amuckart - thanks for that link. Wizcrafts, you going to order hollow tubing or solid core for this application? And what diameter...1/4" ?
  8. Wiz, are you calling the pictured setup a "side mounted" installation? I'd consider that to be mounted to the back, but maybe it depends on how you look at it? The other thing is that you're saying you can't connect to the big pulley on the machine - but it looks like it is on the big pulley to me. Confused again. Is there a larger than stock aftermarket pulley that you'd prefer and that would be easier on the motor?
  9. I think I'll give Bob a shout and try to source some of this stuff - thanks !
  10. ..um nevermind, I think I see that it is actually the stock pulley after all - handwheel is seperated and moved to the front by itself (duh ).
  11. Wizcrafts the pictures are so big I can not tell about the size of the pulley on your machine.... since your handwheel is on the front - is the pulley (that the leather belt's attached to) the same size as the stock hand wheel pulley?
  12. Wiz awesome of you to post the pics but I honestly can't completely make out what's going on - the pics are too big, could you resize them by chance? Also, is that appx. $100 besides the cost of the servo motor (you said total but I'm confused)?
  13. Has anyone used a modern servo motor on a typical vintage Singer 29K table base (bi-level)? Actually mine's a long arm 29K62 but I doubt that'd make any difference. What alterations to the table, base and/or motor would need to be made - if possible at all. Would there need to be some sort of offset brackets made up? Anyone got pics?

    For Sale

I'm interested in the Baby Bull, PM'd you a couple days ago asking where you're located. Please let me know - thanks.
  15. Thanks everyone, I'll pass on it then. That link will come in handy I'm sure.
  16. Is the Singer "251 W" going to be a walking foot machine? I searched but couldn't find anything - I assume it's because I don't have a complete model number, as in probably 251wXXX. The seller say's "We were sewing sofa and mattress materials."
  17. That's really nice oldtimer, I may go that route (thanks for the idea, pics) but in reality, with all the projects I have going on I'd rather not have to build something else. Maybe I'll just contact some local Industrial sewing equipt suppliers and see what's available. Just hoping there were some common suppliers to look at. I'm sure Toledo would have something - but looking for alternatives too, for comparison.
  18. I've seen lots of picture of patcher machines setting on top of pedestal style tables, with the arm sticking out over the side and motor under the other side. Looks like they're fairly tall - are they used in strictly a standing position or are they adjustable maybe? Do they have a specific name (so I can search them out), or anyone sell 'em at a good price. Right now I'm using a "regular small" old singer treadle with a wooden top that I custom made for the 29K62 LongArm patcher, I like it but these pedestals look interesting too.
  19. Looks like they've updated the sale page on their newer webpage now..
  20. I haven't used that tool... but I can vouch for the seller. My experience with them has been good quality tools and (uncommonly) quick shipping from Japan.
  21. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about: Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  22. I like this idea, are you using some kind of cork block? Securing it in the stitching horse with the leather.... or holding it in your hand as you go?
  23. , I have to say that I wasn't sure if you were joking or not when you made the comment about workers wearing gloves. Which is why I was trying to be polite in saying that it's an interesting concept (whatever the wording was). In truth I was thinking "nan, that can't be right, can it?" . The thing about COACH's "glove leather" that's used for the bags, is that it's not like leather that would be used for gloves at all IMO. It's too thick, not floppy enough - for one thing. Also, it's smooth with no textured graining like you see on fashion gloves, etc. It seems almost like a very flexible, soft and subtle veg-tanned leather to me (I know that's not the usual nature of veg tanned leather though).
  24. Wow I just came to realize that Waterhouse Leather offers free shipping for orders over $100 ...... what?!!!, that alone seems like a great reason to give them some business. But then apparently they also offer a 5% discount to members of this forum (is that still on?). So I was wondering if anyone can comment on their leathers? I'm particularly interested in the Bridle leather hides, if anyone has any experience with it. How does it compare with others, etc? Do they offer any services like skiving, etc?
