FYI - Here is how I find the best results... Up in the upper right corner of this page - is a search box and on the right side of that is the word Advanced. I always use the Advanced choice, so click on that. Now there are 2 ways I used this Advanced feature. I search by Subject or by Author. • Subject - The way I have found works the best is to use just one word (the simplest) like airbrush, basketweave, case, checkbook, dye, edge, fingercarving, finish, graphics, holster, ink, knife, lacing, modeling, pattern, sheath, sewing, sharpening, swivel knife, tooling, vinegaroon, wallet, etc… • Then just scroll down and click on the choice for -------> Display results As posts • Then click on Search now. There will be all kinds of the posts for this subject and it will show those with pictures...... there may be a lot of posts that are not relevant, but I end up finding things I had not even thought of… • Author - If you find a post with really good information, or really great photos of something that interests you, take that authors name and enter it in the Find author line. • Then just scroll down and click on the choice for -------> Display results As posts • Then click on Search now. Not only will you get their posts, but pictures they have posted too. This is a Grrrrrreat way to find all of the posts available (limited to the first 200) - about anything you might be interested in…

This is the other topic I was reading where Hidepounder talks about Additives in the Casing Water http://leatherworker...showtopic=38349 * the Best way to get the Most out of all these topics and posts is to Read Everything... not just the first and last post. I found that I often would miss the information I was looking for... if I didn't just take the time to read everything. Get yourself a cup of coffee (or a beer - or whatever) and read - then practice... Hope this helps

Hi Young Gun I was just reading an old post of Hidepounder's about casing leather and casing solution and basically this is what he said... Hidepounder I probably put about 1 teaspoon of (Joy) soap and 1/2 teaspoon of glycerin to 2 quarts of water. Sometimes I use a little more of each. I don't measure.....I just add a little and I'm done. Actually, come to think about it.... Hidepounder is just one of the amazingly talented Masters that posts here, (So Lucky for us that can't afford, or are not close to classes) and there is an amazing amount of information to be found..... if you take the time - it is well worth it. *** If you do an Advanced Search you will see a way to search ( upper right corner) for information here at leatherworker.net to 1. (find words) and also there is a way to 2. search for authors (find Author) . *** What I finallly figured out was..... when I found a Good piece of information, or Really liked a picture of some leatherwork, then I would search for that author and read up on what they had to say - their tips and suggestions. Well howdy folks....... I decided to do a pic and join in... I am surprised that there have been 562 views of June's challenge only a couple of brave souls have posted their pieces.... I found a clip art pic I liked. I decided to save you all the pain of seeing my measly attempts at drawing... (and my embarrassment). This was fun to do, but I am not happpy with how it turned out (the rocks came out pretty funky) so I think I'm gonna do it again - Not that my practice will make it perfect, but I know I can do it better. Hi Andreas How many of these do you want to make? If it was me, and I wanted to be making and selling a lot of these things, I'd figure out a way to make them good and fast... You might want to think about getting yourself a small shop press and buy a cutting die made to the specific shape you want. Some places make a standard key fob shape that might be less expensive to buy, or if you want a customized shape you might need to shop around for the best price. It might be you spend a couple of hundred bucks, but then you can make lots of perfect cuts. You get less waste and less frustration... You will have to decide if it is worth it. You can check this out for some basic info Plate Embossing And Die Cutting and - here's just a couple of places you can get cutting dies made If you are interested, I suggest emailing them and asking them about what you have in mind... Hi RC Good Work! That looks Really Nice to me and I like your lacing. That is very similar to one that my brother made from a Tandy kit over 50 years ago.... it is hard to say for sure, but maybe the extra leather would have bunched at the top and not the bottom?

Hi Bob, Wow, That is a R e a l l y N i c e flower.... I really like that. ( and I am also curious about what basketweave stamp you used. Nice and straight too. Nice work there Bob... Is that a Hackbarth or B King? I want one! ) There's No sign of that looking like Plastic, that's for sure! Very Nice! About the resist/finish - I have a couple of quarts of the Satin and Super Shene, so I'm gonna have to try some of these ideas out.

I know this is an old post (started back in Feb 09) but there is some really good info here that I haven't read any where else... So I thought I'd bump it up to the top. I hope this is helpful to others that have the same problem as I do with some finishes looking way to shiny and making the leather look like it is plastic. I have read that a finish/resist can be diluted and should also be put on with a lite touch but this tip above is new to me and I think I will be trying it out very soon. I also like the tip by ClayB that ---> It shouldn't look "plastic" with antique applied after that and sealed with something like Tan Kote. Thank You All for some really great tips here! ps. Yeikes - Was just reading about Talcum being a health hazzzard.... That is a new one to me - sooooo be careful if you try this and be Very Careful not to inhale any.......

Wow, This is Really Nice! What is that on the end of the strap? It is Very cool! It looks like the snap snaps on the side of the cover and there is a the stone (?) in the setting with a magnetic closure on the other side of the strap end? Very Nicely Done!

Hi IP After embossing or tooling you should let the leather dry completely before going on to the next step... oil, dye, or antique. From what I have read here - some folks oil before dying and some oil after. I think it is personal preference. Great skull (no matter who did it)
