  10. I was just looking at stained glass window patterns (google images) and saw some that might make a nice pattern on leather.. I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but maybe it will give you some ideas... ? I was looking for a horse or wolf pattern, but maybe a floral glass pattern? Or, maybe it is time to try drawing it from your "visions" Hope you post what you've come up with & good luck!
  11. Really Nice Notebook folder! If I had made that I would be feelin like I had really come a long way with my leather working skills. That is definitely something to be proud of! Some things I make get Neatsfoot oil & a Sun Tan, Somethings get dye, or a combination of dyes. somethings also get antique. It is all a learning experience and I learn something new every day. What we do to leather is a lot like being an artist, painting a picture. Nothing Exactly the same... kind of like how we all have different personalities. I am always amazed at what others like and even though I might have a large selection to choose from that they often want something I don't have or haven't done yet. If I have made something with a wolf or a bear they want a blackbird. If it is Saddle Tan they want Mahogany. It is hard to please everyone.. My favorite color right now is Fiebings British Tan... What can be made with leather is as endless as there are stars in the sky. I probably wont ever make a saddle, or be a Master Leather Worker... ...... but I Really enjoy what I make, and it makes me feel Really Good to know that others are really enjoying Having and Using something I have made. My father used to say "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" But there's got to be a way to express one's opinions without hurting someone's feelings. If those comments had been made about something I had made - I wouldn't be feelin' so good right now. It is not what you say....... but how you say it "Nothing is either right or wrong, but thinking makes it so"
  12. The only complaint I have with this....... is that it is not mine! Bob, you are truly a High Master of the trade!

Yes I have sold 10 + sets of coasters to go with them. I have not put anything on the back. I have used one with a serpentine border for over a year with no problems. I have thought about putting a thin rubber backing on, but am not sure where to get it. So far the feed back is all good.

  19. Thank You All for your time and answers. So much to consider here. I guess I need to do some testing and I think I will start out with a Compact Fluorescent Lamp, (thank you bentley) If that dosn't do what I want I'll try a daylight bulb (Thank You Kate) As the Leather Bum had samples, I'll take pictures and post the results here. Now about the germicidal lamps (Thanks for the suggestion TwinOaks) After doing just a little searching, I'm not sure about this option - I kinda got the creeps hmmmmmm - after reading things like... Germicidal lamp Thanks again for all your help!

  21. Hello - I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area and now that winter is upon us, we are seeing less and less of the Sun. Even when it is a clear day, the sun is further away. Right now my preferred way to finish off some of the things I make has included a Sun tan. Basiclly - Cut, tool, let dry, Neatsfoot oil, a day (to dry) or two in the sun, Fiebings Leather Balm w/Atom Wax, another day (to dry) or two in the sun. Sometimes I do use dye, but for now I'm Really liking the natural deep color that you get on leather by letting it get a Sun tan. My question to you folks out there is – is there a way to get this sun/tan effect with an electric light? Like with a "Light Therapy" light for people? Here is an old pic that shows un-tanned samples and one tanned piece. I usually like to get them even darker than the one above. Thank You... Any suggestions will be verrrry much appreciated
  22. Totally Awesome - I cant even imagine how long that took. Beautiful Beautiful Work.
