  1. Last Friday I read a recent article in Consumer Reports about how to protect your credit & bank cards from ID theft. Apparently there are ways to prevent Radio Frequency ID tags from cards in your wallet - being transmitted onto recording devices…. It looks like the easiest way is to wrap your cards in tin foil. I found a neat set of directions for making a Duct Tape wallet Duct Tape Wallet and how to add tin foil to it Duct Tape wallet w/tin foil I did a search here for tin foil and found nothing on the subject and then I went on-line to research the subject. Then I googled 'wallet to protect card from ID theft' and there are all kinds of things available out there for sale. Wallets, checkbooks, and Pasport cases... Anything that holds bank or credit cards, etc. From what I read on-line - RFID chips now exist in: # Chase's Blink Credit Card # Mastercard PayPass Credit Card # Many Corporate IDs # Many University IDs # United States Passports # Euro Passports It could also be a selling point for those special items… You could have some with and some without the foil. *RFID blocking technology protects personal information embedded in many debit/credit cards and US passports issued after October 2006 It sure would be easy to add aluminum foil to your Wallets, checkbooks, and Pasport cases... Anything that holds bank or credit cards, etc. by putting the aluminum foil under the lining material. A couple of small dollops of glue should hold it in place while you are sewing it up. So I have been wondering if any of you had heard about this or know about this or have thought about adding aluminum foil to your wallets or ID cases or anything that also holds ID cards?

  13. Oh Hey. That turned out pretty good for a first 'one of a kind'! Simple, but a good design! All I have that might be different, one is probably from a Tandy kit that my brother made about 40 years ago. Tandy might be a good place to go and get ideas for different designs.... and Did you try the advanced search option here for Change Purse? You know, up in the upper right hand corner of this page? Here are a couple of pictures... one from the Tandy kit and another purse I got on ebay, just for design ideas This little purse is a very simple bag with a second pocket under the front flap. I have no idea who made this, where it came from, or how old it is. It feels like it might be made of garment leather, or really thin tooling leather that has been softened up - and there is a simple design stamped into it. I found this in a post, but didn't have a chance to watch it, although I see there are lots of other clips to watch about how to make other bags etc. Let me know if you'd like some dimensions. Hope this is of some help

  17. Hi Kevin After I tried the 1/2 ton Arbor press... I was fortunate to buy a Tippmann 700 Clicker (I was lucky to be able to buy it at the time... of course I had to get laid off where I had worked for 20 years & collect severance pay to be able to afford it... ) I use the Clicker a lot because I make things combining using emboss plates and 3d stamps and hand tooling and I also have cutting dies for a watch band, round and square coasters, round and square mouse pads, check books, wallets & ID cases. Read through the link for Arbor Press There's Lots of info & pictures there... The company I buy the emboss plates from Duckreektraders uses a 12 ton shop press for their business and they shared pictures and directions for what they use... Knowing what I know now, if I couldn't afford the Clicker & Air compressor I would probably get the 12 Ton Shop Press for $121.99 from Amazon.com and put it on a work bench. 12 Ton Shop Press from Amazon Hope this helps
  18. I am not sure I understand what you are saying........ If you had a press, you would not use the handle for the stamps. You would just use a flat piece of metal big enough to cover the stamp so it would emboss evenly. It looks like you could get a press from Harbor Freight for less than $100.00 There is some old information here Arbor press Read through the posts and there are pictures of Hydraulic presses available 6 Ton A-Frame Bench Shop Press and a little more than $100.00 12 Ton Shop Press for $121.99 on Amazon.com They are probably a little more expensive now, but you might save enough wasted leather to make up for it. That's what I decided when I got my press. Once you have a press, then you could get some cutting dies to make your pieces faster with very little waste. I make a lot of round coasters and it sure makes it easier to make one perfectly round... I hope this is of some help.....
  19. Hi Dave I was browsing and saw this posting and thought I'd try to help, for future reference. Making a PDF file is easy once you know how to do it. To make a PDF file you do it from your Print Window. On my computer (imac) when I want to print something, word doc or web-page, I click on command P and I get a Print window with lots of printing choices to make and down at the bottom of that window are 6 buttons to choose from.... right to left is Print, Cancel, Supplies, Preview, PDF, and a ? for help. Click on the button that says PDF and then you have more choices. I usually just pick "Save As PDF" and the computer makes a PDF file and either puts it in the folder your working in or gives you a choice of where to put it. Then you can send it in an email like you would a jpeg or any picture file. Hope this helps ps. OH and Those are Really Great Roses that your wife makes! Beautiful & very Special!
  20. This is a picture of a stitching pony I bought from duckcreektraders backin 09 that was included in a Leather Work & Repair Kit If you can make a stitching pony, that would be great because you can customize it by making it taller or making the base piece longer if needed. I don't sit on mine, I just put it under one leg. Because the top clamp swivels on the base, I can easily turn the clamp slightly if needed while I am stitching the leather.
  21. Hi WinterBear I was a girl scout, heheh.... a long time ago, but we didn't do any leather work. Maybe if we had I would have started this sooner... I just thought I'd share a couple of links - Standing Bears Trading Post They sell a whole lot of leather craft supplies and also - Here you will find Free Patterns and Project Ideas in downloadable pdf files and this link to leathercrafts, showing how it is done, and how to do it. Kingsmerecrafts 116 pages of all kinds of info... all about leather, tools, tooling, sewing, lacing, etc. Hope this helps OH, just a thought - cookie cutters make for a simple pattern for designs on coasters... you can find them for just about any holiday
  22. Is there a way to see the download count for the pictures we put in our Gallery? I have looked and searched for an answer to this and haven't found one. So I was wondering if there would be a way to add this to our Gallery Picture information - under the picture along with the other information about the number of comments, views, and notes? Or, maybe it could show up like the download count for the pictures in the Forum posts? Thanks for your help
  23. I'm real glad you like my mouse pad - but I hope you understand that this mouse pad I made - out of Latigo - has the design stamped into it with an Emboss Plate. Old West Bronc Bustin' Emboss Plate 8 3/8" x 3" Tall and the edge design is made with an Emboss Roll similar to this only what's on my mouse pad is a Serpentine1/4" *Normally Latigo Leather is considered to not be a good leather to do tooling on. But I found that my Tippmann Emboss machine and Tippmann 700 clicker Die Press Will work quite well on Latigo. I am not so sure about individual tooling stamps... So, I am just a sayin........... don't be surprised, if you use Latigo Leather, you might be disappointed. You might want to make yours out of regular tooling leather... Unless, of course, I could help you with something like this....
