  5. Thanks for sharing, Red. I have seen that set of stamps before but had no idea how cool the small one would look - it is just great on the small cover! *And by the way. I really like the embellishments on the other 2 lighter covers and the insides of the Wallet are really nice too. Really great inside design and nice braiding too. Really well put together! Really nice all around. I really like your work.
  6. They are all Really Really Nice - I like them all. Very clean work... I especially like the first Lighter Cover. Would you mind telling me how you did that? I have never seen anything quite like that... What's the stamp you used for the main part?

  9. Pardon me, but After posting that picture, I just had to clean it up... How embarrassing - not to have cleaned it up first! At the least, you'll see the before and after possibilities. The Latigo cleans up real nice with a deep luster - hard to take a picture without a lot of shine!
  10. My 2 cents worth... I made up a mouse pad from 9/10 oz Burgandy Latigo. Used an emboss roll around the edge and an emboss plate at the bottom. I have an optical mouse and have no problems with the mouse pad. Works great! Used it every day for at least a year.... It looks used, but hey, it is used...... Oh, btw, it is 7 1/2" by 8 1/2"

  12. I'm just a noobie and I'm not sure about your colors. But once you get that right, how are you removing the antique paste? On some of the things I do, it is a mix of dye and antique paste to get a color I like, and then for the antique look, with the tooling being darker - I have taken the advice I read about here and slather the antique paste on to get it into all the nooks and crannies and let it sit for a minute or so, and then wipe it off with a damp piece of folded paper towel - something flat that won't drag the paste out of the tooling... If the Antique still comes off in places I want it, I do it again till I get it right. Depending on your pattern, try going up and down, side to side, or around and around.... to remove the paste from the top of your design. Sometimes one way will work better than another - depending on the design. You might want to try this on a sample piece till you get the hang of it. Hope this helps

  15. Do an advanced search for Dye and/or Antique and you can read for days - lots to learn. At the top of the page is a search box. Click on Advanced and then enter the word dye at the top and then check the As posts option. You will get pages of all posts on that subject... with tons of information. Also any other question you might have, this advanced search option will bring up a lot of informaton about it. You should use some scraps and try dying on them first, before you do your good piece. You could try diluting the dye to start with...
  16. Ask 10 different leather workers and you'll get 10 different answers. Dye, Antique, Fiebings, Eco Flo.... Pretty much it is just personal preference, and that can change from week to week. Do the same thing twice and sometimes that will look quite different due to their being different moisture content and/or pieces of leather from different hides. Right now My favorite antique color is Saddle Tan -or- Fiebings dye is British Tan -or- I also just like the color of leather with Neatsfoot oil, Sun, and Bag Coat. Also, I really like to just color my leather with antique - it comes out more even than dye if you don't have an air brush. ( just my humble opinion ) Suggestions * Do an advanced search for Dye and/or Antique and you can read for days - lots to learn. * Get some scraps and try dying on them, before you do your good piece. * Try diluting the dye to start with... Have fun - mistakes can be happy discoveries
  17. Tooling, wait 24 hours, Neatsfoot oil, wait 24 hours (in the sun if there is any) and then Bag Kote – love the finished color.

  20. Wow, that is very nice! .......and I agree with cowdog (although I really like your screen name) your handle just doesn't fit any more.
  21. Oh, I love your wallet! I have a picture of a 50 Chevy pickup we had in the family for about 15 years. I might have to borrow your idea and put old Maybeline on a wallet too. The old truck is gone, but I had put a leather seat cover on the bench seat and the seat back and covered the steering wheel with leather too. Thanks for reminding me... I also really like the coloring on your wallet - the background and the truck. . What color did you use for the background?
