  1. Looks great! Another vote for not dyeing it black. People want it black, so I make it black, then they ask what happened to the carving that was on there.Go figure.
  2. Very cool! I like the style of the carving and the different construction technique with the rivets. I love rivets, really tough! Great job!
  3. Nice work as usual, Dave.I don't know why they toned down their seats maybe for brand recognition? I do know the motorcycle market is experiencing a correction and is getting tighter. H-D just shutdown their plants for a week to try to get rid of some old inventory.
  4. Looks good, but it is a good idea to get half up front. I've had some people not pay for things a couple of times but I believe that is their problem, not mine. I kept my end of the deal, they did not, so I sleep pretty well at night.
  5. Thanks, not sure what price I'll put on them.I have a while to think about it. Half the money goes to the local aids project but you can donate more if you wish. It's also a good way to get exposure.
  6. Thanks everyone. RayBan, good eye , they're about 2 1/4". Luke , I'm not sure. I was given a box of some misc. leatherworking supplies and the lace was on a plain cardboard spool.
  7. I've been messing around with some remnants making things for the local "Artist against Aids" show in April. I know it's early but I'll be pretty busy after the 1st of the year so I'm getting a jump on it. Last year my wife put a few leather items in the show and they sold very quickly, other than those there was n't any leather in the show. I'll post more items as I finish them.
  8. Try thinning it out with some water, I've been screwing around with that and it seems to work quite well.
  9. Thanks for the quick response. I thought it would have something to do with corporate trying to keep costs down, nothing wrong with that. It would be nice if they would broker a deal to get some HO leather to sell to people willing to pay the price. The Tandy nearest to me is 90 miles away so to go there and hope they have some good leather isn't very practical, so I order the HO and get top quality everytime, although I have to wait for it. Other than that I think Tandy does an outstanding job!
  10. Welcome, I buy a lot of my supplies from Tandy except leather. Can you give some insight into what happened to the quality , other than it's imported? The leather I got there even 3-4 years ago was great but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.Thanks.
  11. The "choppers" thing has been overused and played out like everything the media gets it's hands on. It's a double edged sword.
  12. T That piston and rod came out of a friend's '41 Willy's at about 140mph at Indianapolis Raceway Park around 3/4 track. His wife drives it and is quite good at it. Yes, it could be worse. I love my belt drive! I have some nice lines on the heel of my boot from the motor pulley.
  13. El neato man! Really diggin' that boss seat! I just love Roth and "lowbrow" art inspired work. Hang in there with the side line, maybe branch out in other areas.
  14. Thanks Dave. It's going to be 16'x 24'. It will be built on 33 4'x 8" concrete piers and will have a wood floor. I would love to have a bigger place but money dictates the size. The current is 15'x10' .
  15. A couple more; I should be starting construction on my new bigger shop next month. I need a bigger space to build my V-8 powered stretched '70 VW Bug. My metalworking tools are currently in the basement and I need to consolidate everything.
  16. Here's my shop, hopefully, only until I get my new shop built. Now you can see where my influence comes fromPG]
  17. I usually use 8-10oz. I like Hermann Oak leather, I used to get Tandy hides but it seems their quality has slipped in the last 2-3 years.
  18. Koowell, neato and what everybody else said!
  19. Thanks! I make my own pans from 16ga. with a 3/16" x 1" rib for added strength then powdercoat them black. I don't care for flat pans, I like the old style Bates seats so I put more curves and contours in them. I also roll the edge some so it's somewhat tolerable even if there's no padding. The color is Tandy's Leather Glow to highlight the tooling then some Feibing's 4 way conditioner( because that's all they had at Hobby Lobby), a few hours in the sun for a little color and finally a coat of Feibing's Aussie leather conditioner. Yes, I did grow up in the '60's- early 70's, although I don't feel grownup.
  20. It's great to see more people displaying their work. The wide variety of items and styles is very cool, neato and inspirational, too!
  21. Thanks for the kind words. CitizenKate, I hope when the piston decided to part company with the others it didn't cause too much of a headache.
  22. No fooling,I do that all the time. Nice job, you saddlemakers just blow me away!
