  1. What's J.T. up to? Last I heard he left Confederate Motorcycles and decide to stay in New Orleans. Snow became the editor of Iron Horse again about a year or so ago but has left again. You ride? and thanks.
  2. I've never seen that before, how true. Not to take anything away from WW2 vets ,but I think our military today is very competent and up to the task. The difference being we are so prosperous a country that the country functions the same whether in war or peace. During WW2 there was rationizing, food drives, scrap drives etc. that are not necessary today. A former North Vietnamese General Tran Van Tra wrote in a book that they were ready to surrender if there was one more day of American bombing raids over Hanoi. He also wrote that after the TET offensive, after American troops thoroughly defeated the NVA, he was ready to throw in the towel again until he heard Walter Cronkite declare on the news that it was a defeat of the Americans. He then decided to hold on because he knew the American public would soon give up.
  3. I had some scrap sheet metal laying around so I decided to weld up a seat pan. The pieces were kind of odd shaped so with some finagaling (is that a word?) I managed to squeeze out an approx. 11"x 7" pan. I tried something a little different and used wrinkle black powdercoat on it. The design came from 1 of the old editor's of Iron Horse magazine,David Snow. In an uncharacteristic move, I "borrowed" some padding from the wife's yoga mat. I doubled it up so it's a verrry plush 3/8" or so, I like it and might use more in the future.
  4. Dave, here's a pic of me and my bike from a couple years ago. It's about the same except for some details and the paint is slightly different. I'll get some current and riding shots one of these days.
  5. I think mine could be described as; functional and tough or durable, almost industrial, with a touch of cartoony hot rod influences.
  6. My bike sits about 4" off the ground ,too! It makes for a good handling ride. I had a 21" on my old bike and it was cool, now I have a 17" mag that came with the $60.00 sport bike front end I run on my rigid. I have radials front and rear and they really improve the handling. And it's always a pleasure to look at your seats, Dave.
  7. You're right it is a cool looking ride! It looks like those are 5 gallon bob's, I think a frisco'd sporty tank would do the trick ,imwo. Those tanks would look good with a 16" er on the front. I hear you on the seat, it's like a lot of people want black lately, oh the humanity!
  8. Welcome Duane.I dig your work. What took you so long?
  9. Looks great beeze! I was thinking about some really thin ABS bent in the shape of the bag that way it would hold it's shape and the bottom wouldn't sag.
  10. Haven't used any glue..yet Quality leather; Herman Oak from Montana leather Finishes; Fiebings Oh yeah, oil; 60w Valvoline or something comparable
  11. Just click on my name and check out the profile , there are 3 pics and they all have tubes
  12. Beeze is correct in that it is the shape of the pan that is essential for comfort. I make my pans with a "flat" spot in about the middle and put a small innertube ( razor scooter or small garden tractor) in that spot. With the tube in that position it makes for a most comfortable ride. I ride a rigid and I get about 80 miles between fillups with my 2.2gal. sportster tank but seat comfort is a non-issue with this set up. I run the seat with 3" springs and about 2-3 psi, I've ridden with people who have expensive, cushy seats who complain about their butts getting sore. They ask how I can handle riding such a thin uncomfortable looking seat and I tell them to try it out, the look they get is priceless!
  13. Thanks. Steve, that's an idea but I don't know if someone would want a bunny on a seat, smoking or not, maybe Major, the motor oil puts the type of surface finish on it that I like. It's not slick at all ,slick when you grab the throttle is not a good thing! Hidemechanic, it's racing oil so I'm pretty sure it's non detergent.I run it in my shovelhead in warm weather so I usually have some around.
  14. Another cool wallet Kevin. Nice work, do you know Bill Wall?
  15. That is really cool Steve! You definitely have your own style. As was stated earlier, if you saw someone wearing this you would know who made it and that is a good thing!
  16. A little Fiebing's black oil dye followed by a couple of hand rubbed applications of 60w Valvoline topped off with Fiebing's Aussie conditioner.
  17. Horses about 7,000 of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve0xGsJxd6M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve0xGsJxd6M
  18. Hey Dave, got any pics of the new bike?
  19. Anyone try that "Snowseal" stuff?
