Welcome Hauss: Let me warn you, this site is addicting......but there are worse things in life and you will meet some really cool people who share your love of the art.

Don't worry if you do not have the exact tool that is shown on the project. I have several of theseproject plans and some of the tools indicated are obsolete so unless you want to spend a lot of time on E-Bay looking for them, use what you have. Depending on what project you are working, especailly if it is tooled, at least for me, the modelers are the most important tool as they rub out the marks. Buy the tools as you can and don't worry about, as long as the customer is satisfied, its all good.

Pounder replied to cem's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Clair: Thanks for the posts, both look like really good sites. I bookmarked Peter Shallard so I can view his site when I have more time seems it could be beneficial. Thanks again. -
Andrew Check out the Marketing and Advertising forum on this site, there is a mountain of information available for guys that are just getting past the selling to family and friends such as myself. Good luck.

As everyone else has stated, be honest and forthright but above ll else tell it as it may save someone else a future problem, helping others is what this site is about.

Thanks for the posting, this will be helpful in identifying some of my older tools.

Fantastic idea, I would follow that board no matter where it was posted.

You might want to get a copy of Al Stohlman's book, "Picture Carving Finnese". It covers trees, mountains, just about all aspects of picture carving and the tools required. I have found it a great reference that I keep going to often.

Heath: Thanks for your reply. Regarding the style I am looking for, I have no idea. I know that does'nt help you but I am very ignorant of saddle styles, etc. I recently came across some old "leather Craftsman" magazines and one of them has the plans for silver trim for the "New Tandy Saddle Lamp Kit". I say new but the magazine is the March-April issue from 1960. I measured the patterns for the skirts and they are 7 inches in length and 3 inches in width. The cantle is approxiamatley 4 1/2 inches in length. Thanks again for the reply.

Wecome Chase 73: Looks like you are well on your way with the examples of your work you've shown. Leatherworker.net is one of the best sites I have found on line to encourage and provide advice and tips, not saying there are'nt others but this is the best I've seen. You might want to check out "Leather Crafters and and Saddlers Journal" as it offers several articles and how to's by the leading leathercrafters. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Finally was able to download some pic of some of the things I have done. Some of you will recognize some of the pattern peices from the past and some of the stuff is original. Look forward to any suggestions and sorry about some of the photography, I'm working on that as well.

Hey Hurricane: Welcome to the site, like you I am faily new to the site but have been messing around with leather for 20 some odd years. I thought I knew a thing or two until I found this site now I feel like a kid in a candy store. People here are willing to share and be more than helpful. I suggest you check out a local Tandy store and subscribe to "The Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal", it is about the only publicationthat deals strictly with leather and its various uses. Again welcome and look forward to seeing some of your work.
