    Thanks

I have been working leather for about 30 years and thought I had a pretty good grasp of it until I found this site. I have learned so much and received so many patterns and tips I felt compelled to become a lifetime member. All things considered its a great price for the knowledge and assistance you can receive and I find I enjoy passing what little help I can to others quite satisfying. Look forward to seeing some of your work in the galleries.
  2. When I purchased some from Tandy I thought the same, it was a stand alone product but the clerk said it was to be added to the other colors to give them a pearlescenct color. I tried it with some Medium Brown and the effect I received was disappointing, did not see that it made that much difference in the color.
  3. Sinpac Welcome from a fellow Hoosier. Being new to leather work, although you could not tell it by looking at your holster, you have found the best leather site available on the net today. I have been working leather for about 30 years and have found so many tips and knowledge from this site I only wish it had been around 30 years ago. Needless to say the people are outstanding and more than eager to answer any questions. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
  4. Thanks that means a lot coming from other experienced leathernecks.
  5. Just thought I would throw out some things I have done lately for family and just fun.
  6. You could be on to a whole new design for chaps but I don't think the traditionalists would get it. First off, like you I have never made a pair of chaps YET but am studying patterns, designs, etc. Chaps were originally made as work and protection gear while working on the ranch and range. Of course got dirty and were made of heavy material so (and I'm guessing here) no one wanted to wear them inside the home or wanted to wear them after work. Kinda like a carpenter with his belt. Of course I am intrigued by the idea of fasting chaps to the belt a person is wearing as they could just as easily be removed. Obviously I have had to much coffee.
  7. Welcome to the best leather working site you will find. The people here are extremely helpful and believe in sharing their knowledge and honest opinion. Your holster are really good so I expect you will spend a ;lot of time in the holster forum but I look forward to seeing more of your work.
  8. Thanks for the tip Ferg, good job as usual.

Welcome Merlyn Looks like you do some decent work and this site will only help you improve as it has me. After 25 + years of leather work as a hobby and now a business I thought I knew a thing or two until I found leatherworker.net. Man was I wrong. The people are here to help with anything related to leather work or just life in general. So again, welcome, kick back and enjoy the education and fellowship. John
  10. Dee Depending on what kind of carving you intend I highly recommend anything from Al Stohlman. There are several books available but I have found his to be quite extensive with how to's and other examples. By the way, I reviewed your other post with the pictures, some really good work there. John
  11. Welcome Dee You have found the mecca for almost anything dealing with leather and its visited by some of the most experienced craftsman today. We can't wait to see some of your completed projects, its easier to offer advice on the project raqther than just putting it out there. It goes without saying your product will most likely determine where you will find customers so again we really look forward to seeing your designs and finished projects. By the way, really like your avatar. John
  12. Twin Oaks Thanks a lot, that really clears somethings for me. I'm going to do a little research then contact those mentioned to see what we can do based on what I can afford. Again thanks for the anology. Thanks hellfire, I will check this out, at least the price is right.
  13. Hi All: Let me begin by announcing I am "technically challenged", so if this question is really basic just bear with an old man. I recently read where you could create an e-mail for your business without having a website. For example "your name@your company.com". The article said it could be done but it did not explain how. I would like to get this for my struggling leather business until I can afford to get a website. Like I said I am "challenged" so I greatly appreciate any and all assistance. Thanks Pounder
  14. I really appreciate the tips from all of you. I shipped the project this morning and of coarse asked the customer to let me know of any issues upon receipt. Again thanks to all of you, this site is the best cause the people are the best.
  15. Welcome Pete Pretty good work for only five months into it. As you have been around for a bit you already know this is the best leather site you can find, I have been doing leather for 30 years and am amazed at the knowledge I gather from this site almost daily. Anyway, welcome and keep up the good work.
  16. BillB Good advce about the wax paper, I hadn't thought of the wax getting on the design I was more concerned about the finish and protecting it. Winter Bear Sounds like a lot of work but I agree, better safe than sorry or a po'd customer. Good one about the wind chimes but I believe I would have let them go to the wind or the patty. Thanks to both of you.
  17. I have completed a project for a customer out of state and need advice on shipping this to them. It is flat picture and besides making sure everything is dry are there any other things I should be mindful of? What should I wrap the leather in, I thought about wax paper but I am just not sure. I know this is probably a stupid question but the last thing I want is a dissatisfied customer. I appreciate any and all advice and comments.
  18. Thanks to all who provided patterns for baby booties. We are expecting our first grandson by the end of the month and these will make a great present for the parents as well as a wonderful keepsake. This site and its people are fantastic.
  19. Hello Frostfell Welcome to the best darn site for leather workers anywhere, bar none. Leashes and collars can be a good side business but might I suggest you start with something besides "cheap". I have found if I use cheap, it looks cheap. I am sure you do not breed your dogs cheap. Anyway, that my two cents for what its worth. Hope to see some of your work soon and again welcome.
  20. Welcome Edvin to the best leather crafters site you will find anywhere. Your work is really impressive, look forward to seeing more of it.

  22. Welcome John: You have found the oasis of leather knowledge and its populated by some really good people. Good luck with your business, I am also starting mine and plan to attend some Ren Faires as well as show in a local gallery. Business is slow to start but we are having the times of our lives. Look forward to seeing some of your stuff on here soon.
  23. Just wanted to come back and say THANKS to all who have commented and provided some great suggestions and insights. After retiring from the rat race I am following my dream of operating my own leather business, which so far has been better for the waist line than calorie counting. There is truth in the starving artist. Anyway again thanks to all, I really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions and hope to see many more.
  24. Welcome Ric: Welcome to Leatherworker.net, you will not find a better place for the leather working enthusiasts.
